Man reading these pics we have a lot in common. I don't know if many here got to see Shabazz play high school football but he very well could be the best high school athlete I have seen. Darren Terry and Scott Scutter...those two names bring back some memories.

LE is loaded with talent. They can put five players on the floor with 4 or 5 solid coming in off the bench. NB does not have anywhere close to this depth. Why not use this depth more effectively? Why not put quick and aggressive players like Quest to hound Wade? When Quest gets into foul trouble then sub in another fast and aggressive player to do the same and go back and forth. Keep a pair of fresh legs on him and wear him down. Why would LE not deny Wade the ball and make him work for his points? Wade is quite possibly the best player in the district but nobody makes him work to get the ball. If you hold this young man's point production down, you hurt NB's offense badly. Letting him receive the ball easily is giving him a chance to penetrate and when he penetrates he finishes as well, if not better, than anybody in the district. Another that needs to be made against NB is to move Carson to the post. The kid is the best point guard on the team but you have a solid backup and are hurting badly on the block. Make these two moves and LE beats NB by 15 or more next game. Leave things like they are and it is anybody's game.

Antonio Graves went back to TCU this weekend and has made his decision to accept a full athletic scholarship there. Head Coach Patterson and Assistant Coach Anderson flew to Texarkana to meet with Graves and his family Sunday night for the purpose of answering any questions they might have and make them feel comfortable with his decision. These guys flying to Texarkana for this sole purpose says a lot about the commitment that TCU has for this young man. He was recruited as an athlete by TCU and he will be filling a roll as either inside receiver or safety (I feel the later). In the last two weeks he has seen quite a bit of interest from Baylor (for QB), Arkansas, and was even contacted by Georgia. Antonio is a fine young man and athlete and TCU should be a great fit for him. I believe TCU now has LE's Junior Tra Carson in their sights. That would be a great pick up for them next year and I personally would love to see these guys on the same team together in college.

Thanks so much. The realization of "the honeymoon is over" is something I have been worried about, but was also aware of. All I want is for them to give him the opportunity to prove himself as they are promising. Should he go to an SEC school that is not nationally ranked because they get so much exposure in that conference or should he go to a team in a weaker conference that is ranked in the top 10? Then there is the possibility of going to a smaller D1 in a weak conference where he has a chance to shine early. Now here is the hard part, how do we figure out which is better for him academically? Should he make this entire decision based on what school is best for his major? This is absolutely his decision to make but he is being sold by all the recruiters that their program is the best for him. He is young and impressionable and I feel obligated to at least give him my thoughts. I do not want to do this without knowing how to give him the best info that I can.

I agree with everything you have written and will probably get a lot of flack for my next statement. If all of these are top notch schools, will it matter which he gets a degree from? Yes, getting his education is the most important part of this entire process. This is why I ask what percentage of their players graduate, what are their tutoring programs like, etc. Your last statement was EXACTLY what I want. What do I do to figure it out though? Thanks so much for your help.

One of my sons is currently being heavily recruited by a few D1 schools for football as an athlete. He currently has two offers with two more probably coming this week. For those of you with experience here (because I have none), what questions do you ask, or factors do you use to determine what school is best for him? My primary question is what percentage of your players get their degrees? I, as many fathers, feel he has a chance to play in the NFL one day. I realize that this is wishful thinking and that so many things will have to go just right for this to happen. The most important thing is for him to get his education and graduate, but don't you have to factor in which school is going to give him the best opportunity to be drafted into the overall equation? If so how do you do this? Any and all serious help will be greatly appreciated here.

LE's girls are realistically loaded. It is not often that you see a 3A team that can put 5 solid players on the floor at the same time much less 3 solid guards with two strong posts. Following this up with depth on the bench and it looks to me like the girls have one heck of a chance to make a run to Austin this year. Only one thing worries me about them not making it, but I hope that factor doesn't stop them from winning all the games they can win and should win. The boys game was more interesting to watch. At the games start, I felt I was watching the NBA as the two teams were bombing three pointers. Rebounding, specifically offensive, was a big key to the outcome of this one. There were several occasions where LE got 3 and 4 opportunities at the basket during once possession and it is very hard to beat a team that does that. Both team were very impressive with their outside shooting, pretty impressive with guard play and defense, but both lacked a presence on the floor of a big man (although 50 from LE did well). I feel that NB will give either of these teams as much as, or more, than they are looking for. Look for a lot of splits between these three team's series. Round 2 should be a great one and standing room only since there is only seating for 14 people in PG's current gym.

This year 16 3A is going to be one very tough district to win. Defending champions PG have lost two or three very key players, and although very well coached, must contend with their biggest rival LE - who has returned every starter from last years second place season. Throwing last years 3rd place squad in the mix - who brings back a strong group (adding a solid guard that did not play last season) along with Atlanta who returned its best 4 and this is going to be the most evenly matched district we have seen in sometime. I am going tom reserve my predictions til later. What are yours?

I concur my friend Dubb. We have discussed this previously and if he will get in shape he could be the best of the best in our area. Key word here is IF

Now that is some real shooting. Keep up the great work Leopards.
