  1. Garrison--Vickie Tutt Frankston--Jarrod Mannoy
  2. i know its a stretch to call it East Texas...but Fred Garrin from Shepherd High School signed a FA Contract with Tampa Bay
  3. i think getting Pouncey would be a great pick by the cowboys, whether its at 27 or if he falls lower... Also something i found interesting...some analysts are saying the 2nd round could have more action than the 1st because teams are going to have all night to discuss what they want to do
  4. man you'd like to think 4 runs through 4 innings against josh beckett would give you a lead...but NOOOO harrison gives up a grand slam and its 5-4 red sox
  5. cowboys have a BRUTAL road schedule @ Washington, Houston, Minnesota, Green Bay, New York, Indianapolis, Arizona, Philadelphia...geez thats rough
  6. rangers just gotta stop the bleeding right now and win 2 or 3 in a row to get come confidence back
  7. anybody else watching on TV think that Nelly's homer was just going to be a pop fly out...to me off the bat thats how it appeared on TV, and then it kept going and going
  8. my dream final would be butler vs. duke! what a great game that would be. In my mind, West Virginia vs. Duke is for the national championship...I've been a Duke basketball fan for as long as I can remember so obviously im going to pull for them. However WV poses a large hurdle. Duke struggled at times scoring against baylors zone, and WV would be wise to play their 1-3-1 until duke gets hot. I think defensively it will be a great match up. Also, defense and team play seem to be the theme in this years final four which i think is great! No one and done phenoms in this go round, just 4 ball clubs that get after it,
  9. call me crazy but IF IF IF Texas makes it into the 2nd round, I actually think they match up well with Kentucky. I think Bradley can play with Wall, and I think that Dexter can handle Cousins down low...and who can guard Damion James for Kentucky?? could be interesting
  10. I think this makes Texas better in the long run and in the short term...without Balbay they did a great job in keeping a very good shooting Oklahoma State team under wraps...as I heard someone else say, people may be forgetting about Texas at just the right time because no one wants to remember this is a team that went 17-0
  11. i think its great for cayuga to be having this run of success...I know everyone looks at these scores and sees all the 100 pt games and thinks WOW! and rightfully so...but IMO the true WOW stat is this in the 1st round of district they gave up 78 to lapoynor and 65 to wortham...the next go round 54 to LP and 34 to wortham. That is saying something when you can limit an opponent to 20 pts less the 2nd go round when the said opponent knows what is coming and what to expect...Best of Luck to Cayuga and I wish them the best of luck in the playoffs
  12. i know someone mentioned early how cool it would be to have an all Texas superbowl in Dallas next year...is it really that far fetched?? The Texans gave the colts all they wanted and then some in their 2 games this year...and the cowboys did beat the super bowl champions on the road...I dont think it is as far fetched as people might think. The Texans are due for a break out year and they have a very dynamic offensive combo of Schaub and Johnson...a solid offseason could help them create their own breaks instead of falling on the short side of them...And the cowboys have finally gotten a monkey off their back and proved over the last stretch of the season that they are the best team in the NFC East
  13. I wonder if goodell would be smart enough to say in the rule (if it comes about) that you can not have a hand on the ground. A) The center would still be able to snap regularly because his hand is not technically on the ground B) it would prevent wise guys like me from getting in a 4 pt. stance...
  14. this is a very intriguing district to say the least...when i look at these teams, i see the same type of teams from top to bottom...and the following is in no means a disrespect to any of these teams at all, just observations... none of these guys are loaded with speed and athleticism like the tenaha's and alto's of the world...instead you have 6 teams that just work their butts off (or so i presume)...this is reflected in the types of offenses that they run...if i remember correctly carlisle, overton, big sandy and bowie are all very predominant running teams that want to win by grinding it out on offense and shutting you down on defense...not real sure about hawkins but Maud would probably be classified as the "high octane" offense of the district but still they are just boys whose work their tails off...so what i'm getting at is I see this as a very physical district...and because of that I dont see a clear cut favorite, and i dont see a clear cut cellar dwellar...No combinations of playoff teams would really surprise me just looking at it right now And does Jake McClain graduated or does he have one last go at it? If he is back I may have to say that he edges Maud out in front just slightly as far as a favorite...kid is the type of player who can change the game
  15. i agree with hiflyin for a change...tenaha is probably the deepest playoff team in the D2 field...and they have a fella by the name of Reginald Davis...I love the modesty greezy but it's ok to look at D2 and get excited about the future
  16. this will probably end up Tenaha Mount Beckville Union Hill Tenaha will most likely be a common pick for state championship heading into the season
  17. my apologies......i knew when i was looking it over that something didnt seem right but i just couldn't put my finger on it, i shall now fix it and give mavchamp the credit for pointing it out to me!
  18. thank you good sir...I tried to think logically
  19. I agree with catluv...dwight smith was the best high school back i've seen in person...the kid almost single handedly beat celina in the state championship, the dude was making people miss in the backfield and still going untouched for a TD...one play in particular sticks out...4&2 around the celina 45 and carthage goes for it and runs what i call the belly counter, fake to FB one way and pitch to TB other way with all blocking going away from the TB...Celina's CB has smith in his sights 5 yards in the backfield off a corner blitz, one step after catching the ball smith makes the poor kid look stupid and proceeds to go 45 yards down the sideline for a TD...as a defensive coordinator there is no answer for that, that was the perfect call for the situation and IMO maybe 5 other backs in the entire state could have made that play...maybe... so what im saying is, if you put him with the other 10 guys they had on offense this year they would be dang near unstoppable by any defense in the state of texas...their passing game was outstanding and adding a once a decade type back to the mix with that offensive line, TE, and wrs they would be outstanding...and lets not forget that their defense was probably better this year then it was last year...so do i think carthage could have beaten Longview with just the '08 team or just the '09 team NO, could they have played with them and made it a good game YES now for my top 10 list from the 2009 season and note 2009!! 1. Longview 2. John Tyler 3. Lufkin 4a. Gilmer 4b. Carthage *6. Marshall 7. Texas High 8. Sulphur Springs 9. Jacksonville 10. Lindale anyone see a common theme here??? I do...the bigger classification schools are the best teams in the area...yes carthage and gilmer could compete with most, but besides that, no one else in East Texas could consistently give these teams a good game...some teams may be better at some positions, but most often they would not stack up position by position...where smaller schools like cayuga and dangerfield have some VERY GOOD players, they just would not stack up with the big dogs in east texas IMO *mavchamp is credited for this change
  20. in 1a i see an old 2a district reforming with the likes of garrison, alto, timpson, shelbyville, and maybe west sabine or cushing joining the fold
  21. i do believe that would be called a miracle greezy!
  22. saw them the other night for the first time...very impressive ball club...well coached, 4 qtrs of hustle...won't be surprised to see them at SFA
  23. Could it be from a school in between Carthage and Longview Smoaky?
  24. I stand corrected! But none the less I still think they could make a little noise up in that direction next year.
  25. 1.Alabama (I always feel the National Champion should be #1 the next year until they are beaten, no matter the circumstance) 2.Boise State (26-1, I dont care who you are that is good...and when you return 21 starters after and undefeated season...your gonna be good...but dont expect them to stay here, alot of folks will be tooting the boise state horn, and that can affect a team) 3.Ohio State (i'm not an Ohio State fan, and I dont think their offensive performance was that great in the Rose Bowl because it came against an Oregon defense that wasnt exactly shutting folks down, but the media will like them) 4.Virginia Tech (i thought they looked good against Tennessee, if they can stay consistent they have the talent to run the tables in the ACC) 5.Texas (possibly just a homer pick, but I was impressed with Gilbert, and after a full spring to tailor the offense around the skills of Gilbert we should see a lot more of what we saw there during that stretch in the late 3rd and early 4th quarter of the national championship) For a new twist...I'll do my not top 3 which is teams I feel will be ranked highly but probably shouldn't/wont turn out as expected (these are in no particular order) Miami (i was not impressed with them in their bowl game...and they lost their best RB in that game as well and he may not be ready to go next year) Florida (they are fixing to lose alot of talent, and one of the best to ever play the game of college football, but they will still be a top 10 preseason team and I just don't feel that they can recover from all that they lost) Oregon (these guys can not play defense, I love their offense, but you gotta be able to stop somebody to win championships, and this year they did not show me that they could stop anybody...I mean my goodness they gave up 40+ to the same Arizona team that couldn't budge against Nebraska) And just for fun I will give you my 3 teams to watch out for in 2010... Nebraska (they will be ranked in top 15 or so, but they could be a sleeper pick to win it all, i fully expect them to be in the Big XII championship, and they proved that they can open up the offense a little bit against Arizona) Wisconsin (I believe their only losses this year were to Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa...someone please correct me if im wrong...but they were very effective at what they do, and an upset or 2 could push them into the top 10 and BCS contention) Houston (if they can be consistent, they can make some sustainable noise next year with what they have returning)
