  1. I think it is a combination of both. Last year PG took a big step in proving they can beat good playoff teams and this year they definitely have the talent to continue that mentality. I expect them to make another deep playoff run as long as they can stay healthy.
  2. I get that at times you can feel like an outsider is the best option but sometimes you get someone that doesn't truly care about the community and leaves you in 3 years and you can be right back at square one. Just my opinion but I think a community like new Boston needs a guy from the area but I can see both sides.
  3. I can't remember the years but they were running the triple option and that may be a good fit for New Boston. It doesn't require the "stud" skill players, just smart disciplined kids that wont ever quit and it kind of seems like that sounds like New Boston in recent years.
  4. Lol name isn't Blake but I have followed Pleasant Grove for years so I can admit I am a little biased towards the guys on their staff. Just a fan of the game though.
  5. They ought to turn their attention to Blake Worley from Pleasant Grove. The guy has coached on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball as an OC and linebackers coach. His background is diverse enough to be able to run a successful program as a whole while turning around a football program that has struggled recently. He would also be a long term guy and not someone just using New Boston as a stepping stone.
  6. Yeah that was always an interesting decision to cut the 7th grade program. Granted I don't know all the details so it may have been for good reason, but I think it's good they are bringing it back.
  7. I heard Superintendent Paul Norton was going to come out of coaching retirement and lead the Tiger football team next year :)
  8. I'm just trying to make sense of what you're saying because I've been around this program for so long as a fan, and knowing the kids. That makes sense however I think the Varsity and JV have only had one away scrimmage together. If I'm not mistaken when the Varsity went to Marshall recently the Freshman/JV group stayed here for their own scrimmage.
  9. If you and I are thinking of the same person as the third coach they had last year I don't understand how you can claim he didn't do anything. Every time I went to a freshman or JV game last year he was the only coach for those two teams. Seems like he was doing more than just driving a bus. I've coached kids before and managing two teams with a combination of around 30 kids isn't easy lol.
  10. So they have 45 kids all practicing at the same time on the game field? That doesn't seem very productive for the Varsity group which is what you're truly judged on as a head coach.
  11. I've followed PG baseball for many years, and know a lot of the kids that have come through the program under the previous head coach and now the current head coach. The freshman team has never practiced on the game field even when the freshman team practiced after school. If they were lucky they got to get on the field if Varsity was out of town for a game, but that was a rarity. In fact they used to practice on the PGYA machine pitch field, and they referred to it as the "Field of Dreams" because they only got to dream about actually practicing on the game field lol.
  12. PG only had 2 baseball coaches last year? I find that hard to believe.
  13. I guess the athletic department got tired of softball being so good. He's a great addition to the baseball staff though. He took a softball program that was known for losing and a revolving door of head coaches over the years into a program that was a contender every year and nearly won a state championship a couple years ago.
  14. I agree things are better at PG since the change as far as an attitude with football, but I follow the local teams pretty closely and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't at least half the staff the same from the previous AD and some coaching positions were added as PG was always low in their number of coaches. I know that Morris, Fincher, Worley, and Allen were all on the previous staff at one time or another. The newer coaches are Gibson's brother, McCowan, Easterley, Blevins, and Knight. Granted a few coaches did leave, but I don't know if I'd say the house was cleaned. The biggest difference I saw in the change was running an offense that suited the type of athletes PG has which when they diverted from that this year the results were not good, and nothing against previous teams but better athletes the past 3 seasons. This discussion also got me looking at the numbers and under the past 3 ADs that Pleasant Grove has had which is Barker, Davis and Gibson; they all have almost the same winning percentages.
  15. What coaches did the new AD at PG let go when he first arrived?
