1. South Garland may have 4A numbers, but with all other six GISD schools being 5A, I expect them to request to stay in 5A. Their Academically Unacceptable rating may play a factor. Considering GISD has a school of choice it will probably remain as is.

While the events have gone over more quietly than other area coaching changes, four Panther and Pantherette coaches will start next season in different positions than they held last year.
 3. Maybe I missed it. Where did the girls basketball coach depart to? I thought SH girls had a great season in basketball this year.
 4. And Coach Stigler was there how many years? Is CISD not looking at any of their assistant coaches? What is going on with the girls program? Might as well give D.M. a shot at the boys. I am quite certain the finalists whom did not get the job probably have lost interest. It's almost July?
 5. Maybe the expectations are too high. Maybe the administration? Maybe coaching football?
 6. Not necessarily. It is not the A's that win games or makes a coach and program successful. It is the coaches and players working as a unit with common goals. There is good and bad in all classifications. Most people don't remember you for winning the 5A state championship or 1A state championship, they remember you for winning the state championship.
 7. Well, I guess you haven't heard of Hearne, TX then.
 8. Heard the volleyball job is open at Paris High from an announcement that was made at the sports banquet.

 10. Paris JH basketball coach ShaRhonda Reynolds-Hickson (age 37) passed away on Wednesday morning of a massive heart attack. She had been employed by the district for quite some time. Led Paris High to their first ever state basketball appearance (vs. Levelland) under late Coach Sandra Stevens while in high school and led Kilgore College (Coach Evelyn Blalock) to a national championship in 1993. She will be greatly missed.

 12. Van, was a outstanding young man. He will be greatly missed. May the Lord continue to be with his family during such a difficult time.
 13.
Bradford steps down as Horn girls basketball coach, assistant director Capps to take over

By DEVIN HASSON/Staff Writer
Published: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 4:48 PM CDT
[email protected]
Horn head girls basketball coach Christina Bradford, the only coach in the program’s history, has stepped down this past week, according to the Mesquite ISD athletic office. Bradford will be replaced by MISD assistant athletic director Donna Capps, who will retain her role as assistant athletic director on a part-time basis. In a MISD athletic department release, Bradford cited personal reasons being the reason for her resignation. “It is with a very sad heart that I must resign from my position at Horn High School,” she said in a release. “Horn has been a great place for me and my family.” Bradford has led the Jaguars since the program’s inception during the 2002-2003 season and she instantly put Horn on the map. In their first year playing varsity basketball, the team finished third and made the playoffs. That would start a run of eight consecutive postseason appearances, which ran through last season. The Jaguars were not only making playoff appearances, they were succeeding when they got there, as they advanced to the second round in all years Bradford was at the helm. Horn seemed to be getting only stronger in recent years. Bradford won four district championships, including at least a share of the last three, and advanced to the regional quarterfinals four times and the regional semifinals once. During the last four seasons, the Jaguars posted a 105-31 mark, including a school-record 30 victories this past season. While replacing Bradford will be tough, Capps takes over the position with one of the stronger resumes of any coach in the area. Capps is no stranger to the area, as she led North Mesquite from 1978-1990, winning multiple district titles and taking the team to the state championship game in 1987. She then coached one year at Mabank and then accumulated 510 victories in eight years at Crandall. From there, Capps moved on to the collegiate level, taking over the program at The University of Texas at Arlington. In seven seasons with the Mavericks, Capps posted a 119-89 record, setting a school record for number of career victories at UTA. In her final season in 2006-2007, Capps won her second Southland Conference Coach of the Year award, leading the Mavericks to a 24-9 record, the SLC championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. She resigned in April of 2007 to accept the assistant athletic director position with MISD, where she has served since. While she is getting back into coaching, the MISD said Capps will retain her role in the athletic department on a part-time basis.
 14. Did Christina Bradford resign? Noticed on TGCA where the Asst. Athletic Director for MISD was trying to fill the Horn schedule. Interesting! :)
