  1. You make a great point about the head-to-head between Hooks and Elysian Fields... However that was back in September, and eventually there has to be a statue of limitations, right? Secondly, while Hooks' two losses are to our current #1 and #2, there is very little separation from 1-10 in Class 2-A, if not deeper than that. Meanwhile, Elysian Fields must and will get credit for beating previously-unbeaten Troup, and the same Troup team that beat Tatum. Smoaky

  3. Wow, what a weekend, especially in 2A and 3A---I've never seen anything like it---and with two unranked 2A teams beating unbeaten and highly-ranked teams...it really forced a complete change in the 2A poll. Quite frankly, I almost had to start all over again. No, it's not normal for an unbeaten number-one team to fall so far down in the rankings, especially losing by five on the road, but this just happened to be the perfect storm, and the "wrong" weekend for Jefferson to lose. Both Harleton and Elysian Fields had to move into the poll with their wins...and with other results...and previous results----I did everything possible to be as fair as possible. Maybe I'm wrong, but I truly believe I "might" have a legitimate answer for most any question... I know some of you will wonder where is the rhyme or reason----but if you dig into everyone's record, their wins, losses, and strength of schedule---it should make more sense. Okay, that's probably impossible. The great news is unlike Division One-A in college football, we have a playoff system. Class 5-A: 1. Lufkin (8-0)(Beat The Woodlands 31-7) 2. 4. lobo4life, You're wrong---although it does appear to be a formality. If JT loses their last two, and North Mesquite wins their last two---North Mesquite could slip in based on head-to-head tiebreaker. Again, I don't see that happening---but the possibility means it's not decided. Smoaky

  6. I will remember Winnsboro's win against Harleton--- Smoaky
  7. Harleton and Elysian Fields will both jump into the Top 10---and it will be interesting to figure out how high---but they will "both" be ranked---at probably the expense of some teams who actually won tonight. Smoaky
  8. As I mentioned on my sports talk show a year ago---I will remain in the prediction business with most any game in East Texas---but I've gotten away from the prediction business involving JT, REL, and Longview. I'm too close to those three programs, and with our broadcasts involving JT and REL---it's unprofessional to predict a game I'm personally involved with. Kirk Herbstreit has started doing the same thing on ESPN---it's just something that's smart. I hate the "coach talk", turnovers, etc---but I do think the winner of the turnover battle tonight, wins the JT-Longview game. Smoaky
  9. Absolutely, but this list is compiled from a lot of source, BUT---I am not afraid to check out a legit high-level player that could slide under the radar. I'm open to suggestions and feedback... Smoaky
  10. lobo4life, I looked at my list---and you're right, Booker's size could be a problem...but honestly, I couldn't put out a list of the Top 30 without a Lobo! This team isn't nearly as college-talented, but I love the way they play---hard, and Booker is one of the few getting any looks, Lacy, and a couple of others will too---but I couldn't do the list without a Lobo. Smoaky
  11. There are probably 25-40 players who could be on this list, but 30 is 30, so for now, no...but it's always changing. Smoaky
  12. Unfortunately, I don't get to see everyone play, but I've seen quite a few---any suggestions should be emailed directly to me at [email protected]. This Top 30 is based on conversations with coaches at the high school and college level, and other sources. (As of 10-25-06) 1. Ryan Mallett, QB, Texas High (Michigan) 2. Curtis Brown, WR/CB, Gilmer (Texas) 3. Dez Bryant, WR, Lufkin 4. Lennon Creer, RB, Tatum 5. Michael Huey, OL, Kilgore (Texas) 6. Tekerrein Cuba, DB, Tyler Lee 7. Kendall Hunter, RB, John Tyler 8. Justin Sturns, ATH, Rusk 9. Lonnie Edwards, OL, Brownsboro (Baylor) 10. G.J. Kinne, QB, Gilmer (Baylor) 11. Jacob Amie, WR, Tyler Lee (Texas Tech) 12. Gilbert Moye, ATH, Diboll 13. Darnius Moore, CB, Tatum 14. Dominique Buchanan, LB, Gilmer (Baylor) 15. Marquis Franklin, OT, John Tyler 16. Terrance Ganaway, RB, DeKalb (SMU) 17. Roderick Warren, WR, John Tyler 18. Kevin Cheathum, WR, Mount Pleasant (UTEP) 19. A.J. Penson, LB, Lufkin 20. Carmen Boyd-Anderson, RB, Jacksonville 21. Chris Tuck, WR, 6-5, 200, 4.6 (Kansas) 22. Marcus Bowman, QB, Carthage 23. Ralph Thomas, WR/CB, Lufkin 24. Chris Davis, RB, Troup 25. Luke Shivers, LB/RB, Whitehouse 26. Jarvis Crawford, RB, Van (Rice) 27. Jeremy Claybon, QB, Lufkin 28. Gordon Booker, OL, Longview 29. Tyler Fleet, TE, Tyler Lee (Track/Discus) 30. Gerald Gooden, LB, Hooks (UTEP) 30. Simpson Rushing, OL, Athens (UTEP) (Will Middlebrooks, QB/K/P/DB, Liberty-Eylau not listed, but has signed a baseball scholarship with Texas A&M)
  13. myronyellow, Coach Thompson has done a nice job in his first year at MP, and I don't know this---but I'm sure his schedule was setup by the previous people. I never knew of Coach Thompson dodging anyone when at Garrison, so I don't think he'll do that when he gets a chance to make out his own schedule. There aren't many 4A programs in East Texas, hence the two districts---so you're always going to have to schedule 1-2 3A's in non-district...and those 3A's can be salty around here. Smoaky
  14. Those who don't like Theismann are mad because he found a way to beat the Cowboys. Smoaky
