  1. Sabine can move the ball at times, whenever they don't fumble and/or jump off sides. The problem for the Cardinals is that they can't stop anybody. ND is favored by 8 points but I will pick Sabine to win by moving the ball on the ground and letting ND stop themselves on offense. Historically this is the 21st meeting of the two schools. ND leads the series 12-8. They first met in 1951 and last met last year, a 36-21 win for ND.
  2. Jefferson favored by 18 points
  3. A contest of 0-2 teams. Rains is a 3-A team and both of their losses have been to 3-A teams. That seems to be their only advantage. They were scoreless last week.
  4. As with most things that happen at Sabine, there are probably numerous conspiracy theories as to what happened. I heard that "Big Bird" was so disgusted with what he saw taking place on the field that he simply took flight on his own and left no forwarding address.
  5. The Cameron Yoemen is a unique name to the nation. The other term for a citizen farmer and a rank in the British navy is spelled yeoman. There is one college in the east that has this mascot name and is properly spelled yeoman. The archer figure used by both Cameron and the other university is traced from the Robin Hood legend. Robin Locksley recruited his "band of merrymen" from the yeoman farmers or "yeomanry". They opposed the mounted knights of the Sheriff of Notingham and other forces of Evil Price John who was trying to usurp the righful heir to the British throne, King Richard the Lionhearted, who was being held prisonor for ransom in Austria. Their chief weapon was their bows and arrows. I think that Cameron has a cheer leading mascot dressed as a Robin Hood archer except that they are dressed in maroon instead of green like Robin Hood. "He changed his cloak to Lincoln green and his name to Robin Hood." Since this mascot is usually a girl cheerleader you might even say the mascot looks like a maroon Peter Pan, which is a part usually played on stage by a girl. There is also a term called "yeoman service" which means that something or someone gives faithful, reliable, selfless, excellent service. Once again, not a bad mascot name no matter how you spell it. I would put it in the category of one of the best.
  6. I know that Sabine played and defeated Gladewater. Who did they lose to. Who do they play next?
  7. Moody has just this year come down to 1A after regularly getting pummeled in their Central Texas 2A district for a long period of time.
  8. Did he call them the Spring Hill Panthers or the Sabine Panthers?
  9. Worse than that. In eight meetings, the first in 1986, Sabine has never defeated Jefferson. They are 0-8
  10. Last met in 1977 with Sabine winning 44-6. The overall series record is 16 games with Overton ahead 9-7.
  11. When is Sabine's bonfire scheduled?
  12. Mart and White Oak shared a state championship in 1957.
  13. Before the kickoff, a bit of historical perspective: According to the Longview NJ:"White Oak leads the overall series betwen the two teams., 21-20 but Spring Hill has won 13 of the last 16 meetings.. White Oak won the first meeting in betwen the two programs in 1948 (9-0), and the Roughnecks won eight in a row before Spring notched a 27-7 win in 1973. The two teams did not meet from 1951-67" probably because White Oak was in a higher classification than Spring Hill most of those years. The last three years the tables have been reversed with Spring Hill being placed in the higher classification. As far as old rivalries go both Spring Hill and White Oak have played more games against Sabine than they have against each other. Spring Hill and Sabine have played 53 times and White Oak has played Sabine 48 times; this year's game will be the 49th. The series are no where near as close (Spring Hill enjoys a 34-14-5 record against the Cardinals while Whites Oaks record in the series is 41-7. As far as old goes Spring Hill and Sabine first played in 1941 and Sabine first played White Oak in their first year of football, 1937. It takes more than age to make a rivalry but the record is the record. Just a bit of perspective for those of you of recent birth.
  14. I have always wanted Maud to schedule a game with Claude. One year not too long ago both schools were in the semis of the state baseball tournament but both lost the semis and did not meet in the finals.
