  1. Pipkin ran 25 yards on first down. Carthage considering going for 2 points and the win. Delay of game flag. Then missed the XP.
  2. Here's a comment or two or more from a former Gilmer band parent. First, when the band, and for that matter the drill team, also, arrives at an away game, they are often left to fend for themselves for seating. There is no traffic cop telling people and groups where to sit in a general admission stadium. That is where the band sponsors and directors get involved, asking individuals, most often fans of the same school whose band has no place to sit, to move it just a little bit so the band can be seated. I have no idea what kind of early crowd showed up for Henderson Friday night, but if the fans travel well at all, they were likely in what is ordinarily the visiting band's spot. Just a possibility, not interested in a debate. Second, if you have ever been to an SFA game for example, you have witnessed a college band that is very active in the proceedings of the game. Every kickoff, every touchdown, every first down, gets a musical follow-up, plus you get to hear the Wabash Cannonball four or five times. My point is, I have witnessed the SFA band director receive a warning from the officials for interfering with the opposing teams ability to call signals. The warning, according to the daughter who was in the band at the time, was to be followed by a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike if it happened again. And by the way, the band director is a huge football fan if you haven’t figured that out. There is precedent for the band having to tone it down a little to allow signals to be heard. Third, placing the band, contrary to what others have said, spanning almost the entire width of the end zone with most of the instruments just above the football player's ear level, is quite different from placing the band in the visitors stands, with the band stacked vertically in fifteen rows of bleachers. From my seat at the fifty yard line, it was very loud, much louder than any band I recall at Buckeye stadium. And by the way, I enjoyed the Henderson band’s performance. Great band with a great tradition. I am sure most folks just want this topic to go away, but I thought I had something to add. I'm out.
  3. I haven't read the first 60 pages of this one, but Gilmer old timers might mention remembering losing a State Championship to Yoe in 1981. Coldest game in Gilmer history, at the House of Pain in Waco.
  4. Absolutely spot on. If you go to the game, you should always stay to the bitter or glorious end. The kids deserve that level of support.
  5. 69 Camaro but the 2011 is better in every way. Gotta go with the original. (Martha was an old-time player-piano sounding McCartney song on The Beatles so-called White Album, Lonely Old People was McCartney, nostalgic again, on Wing's Venus and Mars. ) Badfinger's Baby Blue or Badfinger's Day after Day ?
  6. Wayne Gretzky "Martha My Dear" or "Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People" ?
  7. If we can claim other schools, I want Southlake Carroll, no, wait, I want Odessa Permian, and maybe Celina counted with Gilmer. Yeah, that's the ticket. :icon_neutral:
  8. Gilmer will beat Liberty Hi-lo by at least one point. Reason? Strength of schedule - pre-district and district. There is a reason 16-AAA is called the District of Doom. Fourth place Pittsburg would have been a good playoff team if they had been in any other district. And a comment on all the LMJ references. He played a big part in beating Gilmer in 2006, but that game was truly won in the trenches. LE's D line was constantly in our backfield. And losing one of our O-linemen to a broken leg during the first half had something to do with that. And by the way, I have become a fan of the Ducks, because I want to see Mr. James have great success. :coolball:
  9. Come on pots, tell us. You haven't changed your mind have you? You aren't picking the Poultryburg Pirates are you? .
  10. For any folks planning to sample the fine dining at Doc's, you need to know they close EARLY. I am talking 6 o'clock or so. But it is worth the effort to get there early and belly up to the horseshoe, order about 14 of them bad boys and your favorite acidic soft drink to cut the sludge. And wear your safety glasses! :icon_confused:
