  1. Jacketgrad 06.....you telling me...that playing in Brownwood06 and Midlothian in 07 didn't feel like a Championship?...maybe we need to go back to the "OLD WAY of playing the Class B...yes in the old system A was the old B.....and play in let's seeee.....95 would have been...somewhere around Wills Point or maybe Van....cause that was all there was....Yes Texas Stadium and Jerry's World are nice but no one breaks even with those types of venues......and in THIS economy every little bit of "CHANGE".....is gladly accepted.....me persaonally...I would play in the "smaller" venues with the stands packed and the excitement high...Brownwood and Midlothian fit that pretty well...although EVERYONE FROZE THEIR BUTTS OFF in Midlothian....BUT thats what you get when you play in DECEMBER!!!!
  2. Ok young man....you stated the problem in your post....PEWEE FOOTBALL.....yes I have seen the light.....we give out medals and trophies for crossing the street, putting our pants on right and even for not "peeing" on the lid....Use to be that if we were given a TROPHY it meant that we won something BIG....I have seen touched and been a part of that PLAIN STATE CHAPIONSHIP TROPHY....and to me it is the most beautiful and the most coveted trophy....would love to have 10-15 of them....maybe I just need to call Mark Cousins at the UIL and see if I can "get" another one........"I haven't "wet on the lid" in a LONG time......just my thoughts.......
  3. Ok forgot to tell you my rival.....back in the day it was in....GOD'S COUNTRY....the panhandle....it was the GROOM TIGERS and the Lefors Pi-rats......from 1965-1977.....out of that winner was 12 district champion.....9 bi-district champions....6 regional champs.....4 quarterfinal champions....3 semi-final appearances and one State finalist..(had to play Lovie Smith and the Wildcats of Big Sandy)....we lost 28-2 ....BUT it was the ONLy time all year that BigSandy was behind in a game....what a game!!!!!!....back in the day...we use to do all sorts of things to our rival.....firecrackers in their bonfires......also they even put a dead cow in ours.....also use to go and "spray paint" our mascots name in thier field.....we even burned a G T in their field...best one though was our senior....during our senior year duriong the summer we put 200 pounds of rye grass on their field...in the form of a georgia tech GT.....when the grass died off after the first frost...that green rye grass....formed the most beautiful GT on that brown field.....their maitenance guy "burnded" the green rye grass and gues what....there was a big black burned GT on their field for our game.....we do that today.....we may be put in AEP or even worse....homeland security would be called and we would be sent to GITMO!!!!....Oh well....those were the good ol days!!!!!!!!
  4. Hate is a BIG word.....When I played football....when Jesus and God were young...ha ha......rivalry games usually meant something....usually the winner went to the play-offs...one team went...the others stayed home and cried over what if !!!!......back then was really the best of the best....others were just "yusta coulds "....with budget cuts and all...you never know....what Rick and the boys are planning....NCLB....TAKS...STARR.....after school athletics....College Rediness.....need I say more...we might be going back to that stuff!!!!!!
  5. We had a kid that smoked and really did not run to his full potential....the distance coach told him that if he quit smoking he would do much better....the kid replied...."coach I don't run with my lungs....I run with my legs".....THAT NEEDS TO BE ON THE BACK OF A SHIRT!!!!!....then we will know we are from DEEP EAST TEXAS!!!!!!
  6. "And ye shall KNOW the Truth and the Truth shall SET YOU FREE"!!!!!!!!
  7. Would love to come over to "wildcat" land and watch the "BUILT FORD TOUGH" show......have seen both teams in action and Kirbyville has WAY TOOOO MANY WEAPONS on both offense and defense. Center does have that #12 that is a MONSTER runner....(not in size)...but in skill.....probably will be the fastest kid on the field....but Centers defense (quote me)...WILL NOT hold up to the pounding that the offensive line for Kirbyville is about to expound upon them.....must be nice...almost win the AA championship last year...and now have a shot at a AAA title.....must be nice....
  8. At Coaching school a LONG TIME AGO.........heard a Coach(very successful) comment on this....said he would sit the parents down and ask them this question...."do you believe that the descisions and actions that I make should be for the betterment of this school and this team"?...they will answer yes...then he stands up and shakes their hand and tells them....Thank and have a nice day....as he is escorting them out of the office.....
  9. Dude....just talking about the "use to be BAD" stadium they use to have at Timpson....NOW the stadium is really nice.....except that the track is behind the stadium and not in the stadium.......AND YES I AM OLD......good luck to the jackets and the bears.....will be a close one.......especially if that last play-off spot is at stake!!!!!!!!!
  10. Are they playing at Timpson?......There has been a thread about worst visitor accomadations.....use to be in Timpson....stands were about 5 high....if coaches wanted to "see" the ball game from HIGH....use to drive the bus behind the stands and stand on top of the bus....was at a game in Timpson....many moons ago and looked at the light poles...saw something moving....was a coach in a wooden desk that had been nailed to the pole!!!!!!!!!.....my how things have changed for Timpson!!!!!!
  11. You are correct FLUKE....Putt Powell I believe stated that the fans at the game in Jacksboro started booing because Groom was staying close with the "mighty Wildcats".....I will say this my job was to "block" Lovie Smith....been 35 years and I still haven't touched him OR got close to touching him.......we were even ahead in the game 2-0.....drove length of the field and fumbled on the 2....first play we tackled Overstreet for a 3 yd loss and got a safety....1st time they had been behind all season long.....Coach Norman and I became VERY good friends when I started coaching and the last I had heard from him he was at Wills point but then retired and became a "certified" cajun chef.....and he could really cook the food......man seems like a LONG time age......can remember that Overstreets older brother was the offensive tackle that I was pitted against and we had a war all day long......but they were too much for the ol "dreaded red" lots of memories from that time......we played a whole different type of ball.....we played for the team, the school and the town and there was ALWAYS pressure to pweform for the School...You did not want to be the group that let the tradition down.....
  12. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ALTO????? Was the Jones kid that much of their offense??...I know at the lower classifications one or two kids can make or break a season......hope that all is still well in Jacketland.....Do they have others that are "banged up" and not at full strength?
  13. Ok game watcher......was part of that 28-2 game back in 75......we held "Lovey Smith and Company" to a "paltry" 28 points....was 14-2 until late in the game.....sometimes the teams playing are just that much better.....put your "jv" in or 2nd-3rd teamers.......tell them not to score or run hard....sometimes the opponent is that much better or the opponent just ...well just doesn't play to their "potential"....have been on both sides of this debate....really gives you a sense of defenselessness....do you punt on 3rd down....kneel the ball...run dive 4 plays in a row....sometimes that is worse than just playing the game.....don't know what the answer is....maybe someone has the answer...I don't
  14. Well the fog has lifted from my brain......and there are two more names that come to mind that I have seen play.....that would be Adrian Peterson....had a coach see him on film and say...."We got him contained on defense....worry about scoring on that defense".....at the game....3 plays and 3 touchdowns later.....I walk up to the coach and ask him if he has contained AD yet....The other was a long time ago.....played a pretty good rb from Gorman Texas....Mel Maxfield....turned out to be a pretty good coach to.....
  15. Ok boys....this will tell my age.....best players I played against Kenny King...Clarendon...OU...Raiders/Oilers David Overstreet...Big Sandy...OU...Miami Mark Fincher...Jayton..... Monte Coleman...UCA...Washington Redskins William Miller...."Ocheta" Baptist....CFL "Coached" for or against Rodney Thomas...Groveton Bam Morris....Cooper Steve Loftin...Alto.. Speed Burner from Forney....Blanton mind is getting foggy...you must forgive...getting toooo old
