  1. Went to reply to your band post but couldn't.  I was shocked Holliday didn't win it all.  I didn't get to see Whitesboro.  Was stuck getting the wife a water.  My son was the Tenor for Brock.  It's just their 4th year of marching band.

We are in the same situation...our oldest grandson is a sophomore this year and he has played with the Redwater high school band since he was an 8th grader! He is also an extremely talented athlete but chose not to play football but still plays basketball and track. I really don't mind to much that he chose not to play fb. After coaching for almost 30 years I have seen so many kids get hurt, I am ok with that decision!!

On a football note, our teams might match up in the playoffs...I retired from Winnsboro and my best friend is the AD there. If they can get past Malakoff and you guys win I think we will play yall!

There were a lot of shocked folks after the final results came out!! We had competed against Mineola and Atlanta in two previous contests and finished ahead of them. Come to find out one judge gave us a terrible score in the preliminary round which killed our chances to do much better in the finals. His reasoning was he didn't like the music!! Nothing technical!!! We all thought that Holliday was one of the top performances too!! It's really frustrating because I am not a band person so I have no clue how they do the judging!! I am a retired coach so of course I want to know what the "umpire" is calling!!! LOLOL!!!

Congratulations to your son and the Brock  band! Brock is an amazing school district!! Their success in just about every sport as well as their academics is an incredible achievement!!

Congrats on the retirement!! Having grown up on a farm/ranch myself I know that you will be very busy in your retirement!!! Always a fence to fix or a sick cow to treat!!!! If Winnsboro is playing when Cushing is open you should try to come to the game...I promise you would love the style of ball we have going this year!!! Best of luck and stay healthy my friend!!

Hey, my friend!! Long time since we talked!! After my wife and I retired we traveled a lot. Explored the western states staying where it was cool in the summer and coming back to Tx in the winter. We are now Park Hosts at Lake Bob Sandlin state park and we are also working part time. The teacher retirement system allows me to work half days without messing up my retirement income. I absolutely love it because I get to coach a little bit without all the hassles of classrooms, paperwork, grades or any of the other junk I hated about teaching. That leads me to your next question...Coach Finney has been the AD/Head FB coach at his hometown, Winnsboro for the last several years and has those guys playing great. That is where I am coaching so you know I love working with Josh and then have time to fish out here at the lake...absolutely perfect for me!! LOL!!

Jake left Henderson after two years. He still loves coaching and working with the kids but he got an offer that he just couldn't turn down. He is working for a company that supplies chemicals to the oil industry. They offered to double his coaching salary, provide a new truck and pay all insurance!!! Since he and his wife are trying to start a family, there was just no way he could say no!! They moved to Waco and  bought a new house about a year ago. They both work from home and are just enjoying life!

How about you and your family?
