  1. I'm not 100% sure but I think the opposing coach has to call them on it and the only consequence is that they have to remove him from the game.
  2. That's a good site...but the only problem is that it is for Pennsylvania coaches only. Are you implying SH should go out of state?
  3. No school has to be a member of the UIL. They can even choose which part of the UIL to participate in.....academics, athletics, band, etc. You can play an independent schedule in any sport that you wish. So if the choices the member schools make don't set well with someone.....they don't have to participate.
  4. I think that sums up the problem. If the other sports do a universal off season and begin their practices after school, then it should be obvious that football should do the same. Of course, the problem then becomes that 8 hour rule which would be extremely hard to follow without the athletic period's time used for film study, etc. I can see that in the cases in which the in season sport's coach does not lift or condition enough the AD might have to step in....but that is probably easily remedied.
  5. The organization that runs the state's athletic events wants the people calling the games to be a part of the organization. Go figure. That would seem like a no-brainer to me. I'm suprised that the officials are not a part of the UIL already. Basically, we have folks calling UIL events that the UIL has little if any control over. I don't see a problem with this.
  6. I think Beaumont French won state but started the playoffs with a losing record. Could be wrong, though.
  7. Before you chisel your opinion into stone, go check out Cayuga and Alto this weekend. I'm pretty sure watching the top end teams in each class gives a different look than the other end.
  8. If he isn't saying it, I will. With Darden in the game I believe Overton scores at least once in the second half...that's all it would've taken or would've made a couple more first downs which would've helped to run the clock out. I'm not saying he is the whole team, I'm saying having your leading rusher and fastest player would've mattered. I also believe that Grapeland did a great job of keeping their heads up and finding a way to win when by all appearances the game was over with the score at 28-6. Now 3rd place comes down to the winner of the Carlisle Overton game, provided an Overton win is by 2 points.
  9. I think he meant that the teams that UG, OC, and BS have played have not won many, if any. He was not talking about the three schools who are obviously 3-0, but rather their level of competition to reach 3-0.
  10. I agree with some of what you say. Athletes who are going to specialize need to work differently than those who are multi-sport, when possible. However, to say that a well trained pitcher is "never ever, never" going to have a sore arm is a ridiculous statement. How many professional pitchers, with millions of dollars invested in their training, with the best coaches, technicians, and doctors still get not just sore arms, but career ending injuries. That is indeed a fact... just go to mlb.com and look at the injury reports...that is a fact that can be proven.
  11. Since Tatum is just barely a 3A squad, and Hallsville has been pretty good in 4A for a while, I'm impressed that Tatum played them so close. I think this gives Tatum fans some hope for a great year.
  12. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the coach probably had already planned ahead, with input from his staff, about what to do if this situation came up. After working with the players for too many hours to count, watching film until his eyes turned bloodshot, planning on the old board till the marker ran out of ink, the staff decided it would be best to go for two. Of course, this doesn't compare to the guy with the nacho cheese dripping down his shirt, but he did the best he could.
  13. Not a potshot at the players...they are giving their best. Nor is it a potshot at Coach Robinson. He is doing a good job but sometimes you run into bigger and faster players. It is meant to be a statement that it is way too early to start ripping players and coaches. It is a statement that says the first scrimmage is used to evaluate the players against other people that they don't get to practice against. It is a statement that now is the time a good coaching staff in Overton will turn to correcting and fine tuning the team and the players will adjust whatever they have to do to be successful. I interpreted a previous post as an attack on the coaches because the line, secondary, etc. didn't play well. Someone else said that and I was just defending Coach Robinson.
  14. To make the playoffs he better get them faster as well. I didn't watch all of the scrimmage, but the excitement of the fans drew me to Brook Hill for a few minutes. The Mustangs did not appear to be extremely athletic or physical, but that's not a coaching problem, that's a talent and genetic problem.
