  1. It was definitely a disappointing crowd.....but that's always the case on opening weekend PLUS it was cold. I thought the faithful that stayed were great, though. it was a sedate crowd for both sides IMHO. Those that didn't make it missed an instant clasic.
  2. MAIN PAGE: https://www.marshallmavericks.net/ A recap of the wild game Vs. Whitehouse and a quick preview Vs. Denison GAMEDAY PAGE: https://www.marshallmavericks.net/gameday In depth look at the Marshall Vs. Denison game. I haven't updated the stats section yet. Should get it done in the next day or so.
  3. I don't know how big the crowd will be for this game...... But Maverick Stadium is a massive construction zone right now. So you might want to get there a little early so you aren't standing outside waiting to get in. A new visitor's locker room is being built on the visitor's side, new ticket booths on both sides, and a new entry and endzone area on the entire east side of the stadium is under construction. Safe travels to all....hope you enjoy our home. It's going to be a great place when all the work is done (more planned).... but when there's a lively crowd it can really rock and roll. I've always credited all the pine trees on the west endzone for all the extra noise. Makes it very cozy even for one of the "bigger" stadiums of East Texas.
  4. https://www.marshallmavericks.net/ Recap of the game posted there since no newspaper in the region thought it was worthy enough to cover. I'll update it with stats when I get them. Preview of the Denison game too. I'll get the GAMEDAY page updated in the next few days
  5. Still can't believe what I witnessed last night. What a game. Not one newspaper person picked us. Not many outside of Marshall picked us. Whitehouse is no slouch..... and we beat them with one of thes gutsiest and grittiest performances I've ever seen from a Maverick team. Ranks up there with the 2021 playoff win over Rudder, 2018 playoff Vs. Nederland, 2015 Vs. Longview.... this one will go down into Maverick Lore. When they announced that THS had lost to PT...... and WH was down to our 20 yardline with less than 2:30 mins left in the game looking to take an 11 point lead....was looking pretty bleak. Hindsight.....WH is probably thinking they should have kicked a FG instead of going for it on 4th down. 80 yards later...... the improbable happened. It was time we won one of those nailbiters. We lost to Hallsville by 4 last season in the final seconds, lost to Crandall in the playoffs by 1 from the 1 yardline, lost to Tyler this season in 5OTs. We needed to win a nailbiter. What a night. Congrats to WH on a gritty road performance. Good luck next week.
  6. That's just wild to me. Obviously there was nothing to lose for THS. Win or lose they were the top seed. And I'm sure they didn't want to show too much to Terrell (even though all of the past games are posted online). I know Longview rested their starters tonight in the same situation....but they still dominated. I just don't understand the mentality of turning it on and off...... I was watching the game on my phone while watching our own madness. When PT went up 13-7 I knew we were in trouble if we were going to depend on THS getting us in the backdoor (which isn't ideal anyway). I'm not sure which game shocked the most people tonight....us beating WH...or PT beating THS. Esp the WAY both games went down. I think most people thought Marshall and PT were going down big. Crazy night. I won't have a voice tomorrow. And I'm absolutely thrilled to know I'll be at the friendly confines next week instead of in the metroplex. Congrats to THS, Marshall, Whitehouse, and PT on advancing. Gotta feel bad for MP.....talk about a disappointing turn of events.
  7. Talk about an unexpected match-up! Headed into the final week of the regular season Marshall hosted Whitehouse in a game that could see Marshall finish as low as fifth in the district standings or as high as the #2 seed. For them to be out of the playoffs....some strange things were going to have to happen. Of course they did happen. Not only did MP blow out Hallsville to keep their dim playoff hopes alive..... they needed Marshall to lose and PT to upset Texas High. Well.... Pine Tree did just that.... they beat THS..... which put MP on the cusp of the #4 seed. Marshall was down 28-24 late in their game Vs. Whitehouse. Down to 2 seconds on the 2 yardline..... the Mavs took the victory in heart-stopping fashion. Eliminating MP....and slipping into the #2 seed. How huge was that win? Besides playing at home for the playoffs.... they don't have to face previously unbeaten and #1 Melissa or #7 Lovejoy in the first round on the road. Denison will come to town. A Denison team that's very talented and very dangerous. Marshall's record won't win any beauty contests at (5-5). But three of their losses came from teams that were ranked in the top 5 of their classes. Loss to #2 Longview- 5A Div I Loss to #1 Carthage- 4A Div II Loss to #4 Texas High- 5A Div II Don't expect any tears from Denison. They had a murderer's row of their own..... Loss to Frisco Reedy (9-1) Loss to Lovejoy (9-1) Loss to Melissa (9-1) ------------------------------------- I'll get all the good stuff posted in the next day or two. Stats, previews, history Marshall played Denison in 2009 4A Div I Region II semifinals at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite. A game Marshall lead by 17 points at one point and saw it slip away at the hands of great Denison running back DJ Jones (RIP).
  8. FINAL STANDINGS Texas High (5-1) Marshall (4-2) Whitehouse (4-2) Pine Tree (4-2) Mount Pleasant (3-3) Nacogdoches (1-5) Hallsville (0-6) Terrell (7-3) at Texas High (9-1) Denison (6-4) at Marshall (5-5) Whitehouse (7-3) at Melissa (9-1) Pine Tree at Lovejoy (9-1)
  9. No slouches coming out of that district. I think we all found that out last season.
  10. I’m not going to lie and say I expected PT to beat THS. Don't think many saw that coming. But I just had a feeling we needed to take care of business tonight. Our offense has found its groove. It’s not always pretty…. But the last two weeks have helped salve that loss to MP. That one stung more than any other. On to Denison. Not an easy game by any stretch. But winnable. So proud of this team. We won’t win many beauty contests with our games… but we are a gritty bunch.
  11. Marshall steals the #2 seed from Whitehouse for the second consecutive season when few thought we could!
  12. Agree. I don't think neither Marshall or Whitehouse wins either match-up. But I think both SHOULD beat Denison.
  13. Lots of talent coming up. And the varsity is so young....lots of room for growth and improvement. But right now....I want the varsity to snatch this #2 seed tonight. Would be HUGE considering how the season has gone.
  14. Marshall JV beat previously unbeaten Whitehouse JV last night 38-6 to make Marshall, Whitehouse, and Texas High TRI-District champions. All three finished 5-1 in district. Marshall beat WH, WH beat Texas High, Texas High beat Marshall. What a fantastic race. Marshall finished 8-2, Whitehouse 9-1…. Not sure about THS. in the freshman race WH won district…. Marshall and Texas High finished in a tie, but THS won the head to head so the Tigers took second place and Marshall won third. And who’s 1-2-3 in Varsity? Texas High, Whitehouse, and Marshall.
  15. Head to head games between the three would create this tie breaker: Denison +14 Terrell +2 Crandall -16 If Denison and Terell win....they are both in; Denison as the #3 and Terrell as the #4. Crandall is out unless Denison or Terrell slip up this week
  16. We really need THS to go back up to Div I Seems legit and fair
  17. That JV team is special. 5 shutouts this season. Finished the season 8-2. Only losses were Longview and Texas High. 9th grade team has some talent too but they have been hot and cold all season. They will look great one week and shaky the next. Marshall and WH just need to figure out how to close the gap between them and Texas High.
  18. MP guy is a stud too. But Green’s stats are gaudy. Passing. Running. Touchdowns. Hard to imagine McMinn beating his numbers. But it’s possible!
  19. Josh Green is the best quarterback in the district IMHO. His arm makes him good. His legs make him special.
  20. I'm a little shocked there isn't more talk about this game. I was expecting the "I'm not from Whitehouse but I'll defend them like they are my unborn children" folk to come out of the woodworks for this game. I'm honestly not going to be shocked no matter how this game plays out simply because we've been a Jekyll and Hyde job all season. If WH blows us out.......won't be shocked. If it's a barnburner either way.....won't be shocked. If Marshall wins in a blowout....won't be shocked. I thought they were going to whip our tail last season...... didn't happen. I'm just going to enjoy the ride. This season hasn't gone as planned. A little disappointing. But lots to be excited about going forward. Lots of talent returning. Lots of talent moving up the ranks. It's amusing to see some of the same names voting for us to lose in a blowout week after week, year after year. Grind that axe baby....Grind. That. Axe. lmao.
  21. I mean….. MP stacked the box and it worked out great for them. Our QB was still hobbled and we couldn’t throw shade or catch a cold. We apparently got their best game of the year . Texas High stacked the box on us and it worked out great for them. Tigers are just that good. Our defense kept us in the game as long as it could. Nac….. they stacked the box…. But they literally put no one in the secondary. Not a soul. MP and THS dared us to pass. But still had the secondary out. Nac basically was like….not bothered. We don’t need no stinking secondary. At least not in the first half. If it had worked it would have been a brilliant gamble. I’m hoping our QB is back to 100%. The offense is so much more diverse when he’s able to hit those WRs. But when it’s not clicking…. The struggle bus is real.
