  1. I agree 100%. Criticizing and critiquing comes with the territory. Had Longview ripped that handoff for 80 yards instead of a fumble....... King would have been called a genius for calling that play. But criticizing and asking for a guys job are two different things. Lord knows I've had my opinions about our past coaches....good (Southern), bad (Richters), and Ugly (you already know). But I praise when it's deserved too. As far as mediocrity.....I don't think anyone is thinking Longview would become a (4-6), (5-5), or (6-4) team with a coaching change. That's simply not happening. But what if seasons started looking more like (10-1), (9-2), (8-4). A tougher non-district.... added with a tougher 6A district..... and then 2 deep and done type thing. That would most definitely be mediocre by Lobo standards. And not far from what we saw from Longview prior to King. If (11-2) has some melting down asking for his job....how would consistent 9-2 or 9-3 seasons settle in for Lobo Nation? I'm thinking not very well. Just seems real dicey asking to replace a coach that consistently makes quarterfnal and semifinal appearances. Now....asking for an OC to take over the play calling...... that might be a conversation worth having.
  2. That's the thing....what if 99% of all other coaches produce LESS than King? What a scary gamble. I understand the frustration......but there's a lot more room to fall backwards than there is room to go forward. Right now it's sexy to live in the suburbs of large metro areas. No one wants to live IN Dallas or IN Houston.... they want to live in affluent suburbs of all the Tx metro areas. Westlake, Allen, Frisco, Spring, Cibolo....etc.... Recruiting someone to ETX and keeping them here is going to be tough.....no matter how much money. People like the amenities of the city. Keeping a coach long term in 5A or 6A is going to be a hard sell. Finding guys like King that stay is hard.
  3. I can't answer the WHY.... if I could...I'd be rich consulting teams on how to win state. But the bottom line...... Winning state is hard. That's why MOST schools have NEVER done it. Being good isn't enough. Of course you DO need to be good....but you have to be lucky too. Lucky to not be injured. Lucky to have good weather for 6 weeks. Lucky to meet teams that play into your strengths and not into your weaknesses. You need to not make mistakes....or you need your opponent to make more than you. There are other factors...... Region II is annually one of the toughest in the state to win. You aren't coming out of Region I or Region IV where you may not get tested until the semifinals. I think most people would agree that regions II and III are considerably tougher than I and IV. It is what it is. What can you do? It's not the UIL's fault that the Rio Grande Valley, West Texas, and the Panhandle haven't had serious contenders outside of a small handful of programs (Judson, Westlake, Permian, Trinity). Meanwhile II and III are loaded to the teeth. And sometimes..... you just lose to a better team. No....I don't think that was the case in this game. I definitely think Longview was the better team. Last year I think Aledo was the better team (IMHO). Think back over the last 20 seasons.....there have been times when Longview won when they probably wasn't the better team. Won games they probably shouldn't have. But they've also lost games they probably shouldn't have. Which goes back to the first statement: winning state is hard. We all hate losing.....but calling a 11-2 season a bust.... I don't get that. JMHO. And TBH..... seeing how Forney is lighting it up..... it may be hard for anyone to beat the Jackrabbits this season. Not saying they will win state....but they are looking awfully good right now. Again......congrats to the Lobos on a fantastic season.
  4. I prefer to stay off Lobo threads 99.9999% of the time....BUT..... Every. Single. Year. Outside of one season in the last 20 years we endure some Lobo fans and outsiders calling for King's job. Baffles my mind. I'm not saying King is perfect...I'm not saying he doesn't make mistakes....I'm not even saying he doesn't lose games for Longview.....BUT..... Longview has been rich in talent for the last 30-40 years. The King years have been the richest in Lobo history. How many title game appearances since he's been here? How many semifinal appearances? Quarterfinals? It's absolutely unreal. We are talking Katy, Judson, SLC, ET, LT type stuff....obviously without all the titles. Is a title the LONE measure of a successful season??? Go back and look at the 90's......80's....70's....... all still rich in history...but NOTHING like the last 20 have been like. Be careful what you ask for. You could return to that "mediocrity". I'm not saying the Lobos WOULD return to that. I'm saying it COULD happen. All of a sudden those late playoff losses could become distant memories you could only wish for. I cannot fathom wanting him gone. Sometimes the better team doesn't win. Sometimes you aren't the better team. Would the outcome of some of these playoff losses be any different with a different coach? Bigger question: Would you have even made it as far as you did without him???? Congrats to the Lobos on another successful season. You guys are what so many of us are striving to become.
  5. We were 1 yard away from that last year. Lost by 1. This season we hung tough with the #2 team in the state. Lost by 7. To me…. The 2022 team underachieved a bit considering the talented backfield and O line we had. Those two beast RBs ran wild week after week. Except for that 1 yard. This year we had a sophomore and a Junior in the backfield and a very young OL. Not only did we have a young OL… it was a line that had to be shuffled around almost weekly because the number of injuries we had. in spite of all that we still managed to make the second round and nearly shocked the #2 team in the state. Came up short 21-14 ina game we lead for almost 3 full quarters. Really excited about 2024. Most of the defense will be back. A bulk of the offense will be back. We’ll have all three RBs back with the addition of the talented RB from an 8-2 tri district champion JV. We will have to find a new QB. I’m guessing it’ll be the JV QB who had an outstanding year… but it could be the kid that transferred in from Dallas Skyline. The freshman QB is very talented… just a bit on the small side atm. Next two years could be real fun. I’m interested in seeing how the new district shakes out and what kind of no. District schedule we piece together. We were 6-6 this season…. I think with a more normal schedule we would have been 8-4…. Not that it really matters. But some early confidence would be nice. Im headed to see Carthage and Texas High both play today. Just 10 mins from me. Will be keeping up with the Lobos tonight too. Good luck to all!
  6. I agree.... I think it will be Texas High, Marshall, and Whitehouse again battling for 1-2-3 I'm going to be there Friday night proudly in my red and white. Going to be tough....but THS has proven to be the class of ETX 5A Div II
  7. Unless it was 75 degrees and sunny...I'd have no interest in sitting through 3 games a day for state. I like the controlled environment. Being cold for 12-13 hours has no appeal to the casual fan. Now...if it was MY TEAM....they could play it in Barrow,AK and I'd be there.
  8. I don’t think it changed the outcome of the game. But it definitely stole all the momentum from us and gave it to them. IMHO… we lost the game due to their halftime adjustments. We moved up and down the field in the first half and they shut us down in the second. They had less than 100 yards of offense at the half and we struggled to stop them in the second. Their adjustments were superior. We got way too conservative. And that 4th down call was atrocious. Some perfectly thrown dropped passes. Some poor blocking. And untimely penalties. if we had gotten the win it would have been a team effort. But the loss was a team effort too. Coaches included. So proud of these guys. Even in a loss.
  9. No one gave us much of a chance tonight. Some gurus said we were going to get blown out. We almost pulled it off. So proud of these guys. And we got a ton coming back and some solid talent coming up from a 8-2 JV. What a ride. That was fun.
  10. That one bad call by the coach robbed us of all momentum. MH is feasting right now
  11. Mavs intercept on MH’s first possession and drive for the score. 7-0 Marshall
  12. MAIN PAGE: https://www.marshallmavericks.net/ This page has a complete wrap up of the Denison game and a quick preview of the Heritage game. -------- GAMEDAY: https://www.marshallmavericks.net/gameday I've got a few things posted up. Interesting "did you know" about the game (venue). I'll get all the stats posted in the next day or so.
  13. Heritage High School opened in 2014 and started playing a varsity schedule in 2016. In spite of their short history, they have built an impressive legacy. 2016- (12-2) 4A Div I Region Finals 2017- (12-1) 4A Div I Region Semifinals 2018- (11-2) 4A Div I Region Semifinals 2019- (10-4) 4A Div I Region Finals 2020- (9-3) 4A Div I Area 2021- (8-4) 4A Div I Area 2022- (11-2) 5A Div II Region Semifinals 2023- (11-0) ????
  14. They aren't ranked #2 in the state for nothing. Games like this are when those games Vs. Longview, Carthage, and Texas High come in handy. After facing the Lobos, the Bulldogs, and the Tigers (combined 31-3)...... do you really get nervous playing Heritage? I don't think so. Doesn't mean we'll win....lol. But I don't think playing #2 is intimidating after you've already played a 5A D1 #2, a 4A Div II #1, and a 5A Div II #4.
  15. I doubt it. Not many 5As would beat them. Carthage might have 4A enrollment numbers…. But they have an elite 5A roster.
  16. It’s a great convenience for those traveling, elderly, or sick. But there’s nothing like being there in person. I was cold last night. And it was damp. But the atmosphere with the crowd that was there was incredible. They were loud and excited.
