  11. I have to agree he can't manage a game. Last week at the end of the first half he let a delay of game penalty happen with three time outs remaining. Then toward the end of the second half up eleven points Marshall punts called for a penalty coach accepts. Marshall runs a play and gets a first down and eventually scores a touchdown. At the worst take the penalty go three and out punt and if they score at least some clock has run.
  12. 69 south from Tyler turn left at 79. Stadium will be on left. About three blocks. Parking will be tough as stadium is downtown not at the school.
  13. Here is a story from the Daytondailynews, I think the part that worries me the most is 17 percent win almost half of the championships. Centerville teammates Michael Bennett and Jon Overstreet have a message for all those public school football programs that have had enough of Catholic domination and just aren’t going to take it anymore: Toughen up. “You can’t make excuses for every time you lose,” said Bennett, Centerville High School’s two-way standout lineman who’s headed to Ohio State University to play football this fall. “If they have an unfair advantage, that just means that you have to work harder and there’s nothing wrong with that.” But that’s not the sentiment of the month throughout the state. On Monday, voting ended among Ohio High School Athletic Association members on whether to initiate a three-pronged Competitive Balance Proposal. It’s a polarizing concept that essentially was born out of Catholic — or non-public — programs winning 43 percent of state championships the last 11 years (146 of 340), yet comprising just 17 percent of OHSAA membership. It also has once again brought to a head a long-running sentiment: That Catholic programs have an unfair advantage because they lure prospective athletes from an area not limited by school district boundaries such as public schools. A simple majority of votes is enough for the proposal to pass. School principals were encouraged to vote from May 1-16. If nothing unexpected happens, the vote should be released by the OHSAA this afternoon. If passed, programs could be handicapped — among other factors — because of their recent postseason success and be bumped up a division. That’s also unfair, say Catholic coaches, who have proposed withdrawing from the OHSAA and starting their own association in retribution. “I wouldn’t like them to split,” said Bennett, who helped the Elks beat Alter, Cleveland St. Ignatius and Cincinnati Moeller last season, “even if they do monopolize all the championships. “Everyone puts their bar up at the Catholic schools. It wouldn’t be right to drop the bar just because it’s hard to reach.” Overstreet, Centerville’s senior quarterback, has seen a difference in the Catholic programs. They’re deeper in talent and seem to have little drop off from first- to second-teamers. But separation is not his answer. “It would hurt both associations,” he said. “The depth that they have is ridiculous. I wouldn’t use that as an excuse to say that they have an advantage. I’d just say that public schools have a little catching up to do in their work ethic.” Wayne has played in two Division I state football championships. The Warriors lost in 1999 to St. Ignatius and just last December to Lakewood St. Edward, both longtime football powers. “When you get the kind of players from all over that they get, it’s unfair,” said Wayne senior defensive end Tyler Dukes. “It doesn’t give anybody else a chance. It’s just trying to make it fair for everybody else.” Last fall, five of the six state football titles were won by Catholic programs. Only D-II — Maple Heights’ defeat of Trotwood-Madison — featured two public schools. The proposal isn’t just for football. If passed, other sports — but not all — would be affected at the discretion of the OHSAA and as early as this fall. Contact this reporter at (937) 225-2381 or [email protected].
  14. If passed I feel the private schools will take over. In a few years they will be talking about playing football and basketball. A little now a little later approach.
