Is that date on Grim for the original or current stadium? Originally there was a wooden stadium that ran East and West. After it burned down a concrete stadium running North and South was constructed. In the late 80's the seating was demolished and Prue Fabe concrete slabs were brought in and placed atop the vertical supports. The only noticeable difference after this renovation was that the 8 foot concrete wall on the sidelines was replaced by a 4 foot wall and a 4 foot metal rail. It is rumored that the visiting concession stand and the field house were used as safe houses for the Confederate rail road. There has been no hot water in the field house for at least ten years. With the passage of a major bond issue this past spring plans are in place for major renovations at the end of this football season, and field turf should be installed for the 2009 season.
