  1. Best baseball player to ever come out of East Texas is probably Jerry Mumphrey of Chapel Hill. Played 14 years in the major leagues and was a career .280 hitter.
  2. Roy Martin holds the national 200 record with a 20.13. How the heck are Joe DeLoach and Stanley Kerr not on this list? And I thought (but could certainly be wrong) that Kerry Adkinson (Kerry Von Erich to most) was a 200-foot discus thrower at Lake Dallas.
  3. I would like to offer congrats to John Beasley, a good friend for many years. I've known John for many years and got a chance to coach both his sons (youth basketball) and cover their feats in high school at Eustace.
  4. Teagle remains the best prep player I ever saw, including Shaq, Spud and Mookie. Heck, Mookie wasn't even the best Garland player I ever saw. That would be Ricky Pierce.
  5. Love 6-man football. It's like backyard football with full gear on. The premium is on speed and endurance. I've heard of coaches having their players run miles every day during summer drills to build endurance. I covered some Trinidad games in the 90s and was there when they won the 98 state title. It is the perfect sport for tiny schools. I've been saying for years Arkansas should adopt 6-man teams. There are a ton of small schools that start the year trying to play 11 man, then have to cancel their season. 6-man would be a great alternative. Go out and watch a game some time if you haven't. You will love it.
  6. Best Players I ever saw in almost 30 years of covering sports: Football -- Eric Dickerson of Sealy in the 1978 state title game against Wylie Boys BKB -- Terry Teagle of Broaddus and Shaquille O'Neil of SA Cole Girls BKB -- Sheryl Swoops of Brownfield Boys Track -- Roy Martin/Joe DeLoach/Stanley Kerr/Toya Jones Girls Track -- Amy Acuff Baseball -- Scott Scudder of Prairieland/Paul Coleman of Frankston
  7. Wendell Robinson did a heck of a job in the short time he was up here in Northwest Arkansas at Gravette. Turned a sad-sack program around in a short time and now Gravette has brand new top-notch facilities and has been to the playoffs about 4-5 years in a row.
  8. "He did however contact A&M and Baylor on saturday morning." WETSU -- You state this as fact and it is not attributed to anyone in your post.
  9. It is being reported that Shreveport Evangel kicker Will Russ has changed his verbal from Arkansas to Texas. This would be another big "get" for the Horns.
  10. If he decommits from Texas, then I'd rather him go to A&M than Zero-U.
  11. It is also being reported that the kicker from Shreveport Evangel (Russ) has backed out of his verbal to Arkansas and instead will go to Texas. I saw this kid kick this year when they played Shiloh Christian and he has great range and every kickoff was through the end zone.
  12. That was my thought, too. But Hal has had lots of opportunities to hire Tim and never has.
  13. Looks like the coordinators at Southlake Carroll have both taken head coaching jobs in East Texas. Hal Wasson will have two major hires to make.
  14. Applications are being taken now for one of the premier prep football jobs in Arkansas. Springdale High coach Kevin Johnson resigned Monday due to health reasons and the position is open. Springdale is located in Northwest Arkansas, 10 miles west of Fayetteville in the heart of the NWA Metro area (350,000 pop.). The facilities are excellent with an indoor facility. The school is in the midst of a massive renovation. Springdale has a long history of winning under former coaches Jarrell Williams and Gus Malzahn. Three years ago Springdale opened a second high school across town. This is a great job in a town that lives and breathes football. Springdale is home to Butch Davis (North Carolina head coach), Damian Williams (USC wide receiver) and Mitch Mustain (Parade All-American and quarterback at USC). They are moving very quickly to fill this position. The Springdale AD is Annette Scogin. For more information visit the school's web site at http://employment.springdale.schoolfusion....ssionid=&t=
