  1. 1st I would say that I don't know of this situation but just from the outside looking in I'd say that as a parent I wouldn't put all of my eggs in one basket. I'd make sure my child is well rounded academically and athletically. Also camps can't be the final verdict as to whether someone is 5 star or not, most times you are paying those people for their assessment of that particular athlete. Chemistry is also something to be factored in when dealing with a team sport, if you are talking about a wide receiver then how does he react when the ball isn't right on the money? Does he show up his quarterback? Lay out to make the catch? or give up on the route? If something negative happens is he proactive? Or becoming a problem? If your qb can't trust the wide receiver to be in the spot he's supposed to be in then that WR might find himself on the bench. Sometimes you may have someone that is a better athlete on the bench because when they are out there they aren't blocking well when a run play is called/giving max effort. This situation sounds toxic, I'd just want to make sure I have made every effort to become part of the solution. I don't think coaches behind closed doors say "This is the 1st time I've ever seen Johnny play and I don't like him, he will never play for me." Athletes actions may force a coach to make that decision but that's usually after they have been burned on multiple occasions. Coaches are humans; sometimes people look at them and expect them not to be. This is the one of few professions in which we ask coaches to constantly wipe the slate clean everyday. Look at the business world- If you invest in something that turns out to cost you thousands of dollars then the next time you are told to do the same exact thing you may have some apprehension. In education and teaching if a kid is a total #### to you one day, the next day you are told to forget about it and teach them and coach them no matter what they've done to you before, got to get them to pass the test or you may lose your job due to poor performance. As a human are told to learn from your mistakes, as an educator/coach what are you supposed to do? Keep wiping the slate clean?
  2. At Crandall it was this group of seniors that had it all together, so to say it'll be next years group then that's just wishful thinking. If the new AD doesn't do what one family likes then he will be out of there tomorrow. As for the kids in homes that get no support, tradition plays a huge role in whether they buy in or they think their talents are going to go to waste once they get to Friday night. If they look at the product on Friday and see no hope then it's really easy just to walk away at the 1st sign of trouble. Coaches really have to stay on these kids, they miss practice you call them, they are failing a class you call them out on it, they act up you punish them. When it seems to them that their presence isn't really appreciated or noticed then its real easy to give up. For a 13,14,15 year old kid its hard to get a paying job that is not on the street hustling, as a coach you have to make football seem as if its going to pay off more than what they can get out there on the corner. Also you can't be in denial about those situations being real and happening. Sometimes you don't want to have those discussions but the kids can respect that you are intelligent enough to see whats going on. The other thing is girls, they have one in their ear saying "Skip practice and come hang out with me." So then as a coach you have to compete with that? You are probably going to lose that one if the kid hasn't bought in.
  3. The games this week have to be played on friday and saturday bc the uil said they have to be played then. There is a EOC exam that is given on thursday and the make up is given on friday so you can't leave until school is out on friday, no schools should be leaving early on friday to go to a playoff series. So most of the time when a coach has a game on friday and 2 on saturday it usually isn't up to them Back to the topic of pitching, I think you pitch your #1 against whoever is their #1 bc this is baseball and any team on any given day can go out and beat whoever is pitching plus if you win game 1 and the rest of the series gets rained out then you go back to the winner of game 1, even if you play game 2 and game 3 gets rained out, the winner of game 1 is given the series unless you file for an extension with the uil
  4. the mabank/carthage series was decided by the coinflip, just guessing but I'd think Mabank's coach wanted a 1 game series (Caillet is pretty salty but beyond that there isn't much) since its a 3 game series, again just guessing but the advantage goes heavily to Carthage unless Caillet can pitch games 1&3 but I don't see that happening
  5. Is spring hill going to play any warm up games? If so against who and where?
  6. Crandall has named Highland Park assistant coach Todd John their new Athletic Director/ head football coach
  7. district 14 3a Crandall Emory Rains Kaufman Quinlan Ford Wills Point
  8. south garland or maybe north garland had a guy that was rumored to be 20 or 21 around 2002, Edorian McCollough, he was really fast. Got a full ride to Texas. I saw his beat daBryan Blanton at Forney in the 100 and 200 and he beat him pretty bad. He looked like a grown man among boys.
  9. This may be a little off topic but I went to Hendersons game against Celina and one thing was very evident, Del Barnes is unreal, that kid put the ball right on the money every throw that I saw (I left one possesion into the 3rd). If I were a college coach I'd hand the keys to my football team in a heart beat to the kid. He just has it. I haven't been blown away by a qb like that since seeing Andrew Luck play in 7 on 7. I'd like to hear more on where he intends to go bc I saw he hasn't committed yet according to rivals.
  10. okay so you please spell it out for me as to how forney would be so much better with just one high school? The way I see it we wouls still have the same coaching staff in place at Forney High, and the school would probably be 5a by now or at least getting close and strictly looking at the statistics out there and meaning no disrespect to those coaches but they haven't been able to adjust to 4a football so why would they be able to step it up in a 5a district with mesquite and north mesquite. Okay they would have an influx of talent but what would they have done with it, all I can do is look at what they've done here lately and they would have stayed mediocre. I went saturday to royce city to watch the game bc I wanted to see the city of forney win a playoff game, its been 8 years since we last won a playoff game. Yeah Forney made it to the playoffs twice in that time, but got run off the field by Midway... It was embarrasing. Saturday was nice to see. I know I can't change any of your minds on this subject but just take a step back from being so adament about this and look.... We would still be mediocre even with One high school, at least NF got some time to experince what a lot of former grads from forney did and thats winning a playoff game bc we took that for granted for a while and haven't felt it in 8 years and I missed it, I'm glad the falcons brought it back... even for just a week. In this game, I see Carthage by 14. North hasn't seen size like this, they grow them big out there.
  11. this game will be close bc of the offense that NF runs, they control the clock but they havent really been down much so if they get in a hole quick it'll be interesting to see how they react. They have a lot of athletes across the board, they roll a lot of different rb's in there and they all have different styles. If they get down early they can go back to throwing the ball around like they did last year but the qb will make some mistakes. their OL is really athletic and their secondary will make some plays, this game will be close. I see NF by 10, it'll be close until the end though. the coaching staff from NF deserves a lot of credit, the new head coach changed them from a team that will throw the ball 50 times to a triple option attack that will run the ball most of the time. The staff looked around and saw what system would work best with the athletes they have and made the change, that is a pretty gutsy call, kudos to them
  12. north forney, 2-8 last year and now 6-1 narrowly losing to wylie east a 4a school thats really good too. They've gone from the spread to the veer and run it very well
  13. just look at what forney has done over the last 6 years to see how going 4a can be a death blow. They have made the playoffs but their first round game was a blow out. Going to two high schools could be a little bit of the problem but they are still in the one of the best 4a districts in the state. North forney is night and day better this year but even if forney had those athletes they probably wouldn't know what to do with them, you have to change your way of thinking when you go 4a and they haven't been able to solve that riddle. More often than not going 4a is bad for most schools and yall are bringing up the exceptions to the rule for this argument
