Does STAAR performance impact district athletics?
texashigh replied to texashigh's topic in High School Sports
From the way the teachers talk TAKS and STAAR like night and day. -
I wish Grimm had better parking. Feel free to add something your district needs/deserves.

Does anyone know what awaits the guys and girls from other districts in playoffs? Who might face who? Or heck, know the standings in the other districts?

North Lamar is late in the hiring process to consider. Could be wrong though.

Apologies miamiheatfan. I didn't realize Lee was on that list as well. Do you know how TISD plans to address these issues? Especially since the problems aren't in just one set of schools? -

Does HB 5 keep the standardized parts and just limits the number of tests? Apologize in advance for my ignorance. I'm not up to date on this stuff. BTW, im hoping you say that schools get a little break from the STAAR as my girls are already nervous about it and i think its months away. I'm sorry but when my wife and I have to calm our daughters down because they are so nervous about failing that test, something in education is not right. -
Congrats to Lady Hawks!

Does STAAR performance impact district athletics?

Agree with all of the above. I also wonder about districts like Dfield and Greenville (maybe Marhshall and John Tyler ?) where it seems TEA always has a presence, Does TEA have a history of eliminating or cutting back on athletics in struggling schools? -
Just wondering if where you guys live the STAAR performance (or lack thereof) impacts athletics. Aside from the academic steps to correct scores and maintaining local control of districts, what are so ways state standards or STAAR test specifically impact athletes and athletics?
-
Totally agree. Forgot about the gap between schools. Great point.

Big game tonight for the girls!! Good luck to both teams!

Serves them right. As much as I love high school football, and increasing the interest and number of quality facilities, the districts number one job is to educate. With the state of Texas school districts, and the STAAR test slapping districts with the 'failed to meet standard' label, 60 million could go a long way in meeting some of these challenges. Hate it for the kids, but the community and district need a reality check.

Ok I gotcha. Well y'all should be in a great position I don't know what area or bidistrict looks like for you but dfield seems more than capable with this district. Even things like basketball should be alright too I'm assuming.

Doesn't seem like many district games period idk just me maybe. Sure to do well against all though. Is this all the teams with dfield in this district?

Way to go THIGH and good luck! I'll be there!

I wish gilmer and THIGH could play. we need some tough, humbling games before district.
-
Sorry, Mavchamp but I'm confused. My daughter plays and says their coach has been saying soccer districts will change exactly like football? I dont know a thing about realignment other than football so if you have any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

My thoughts exactly. With the addition of Longview, our district effectively eliminates one playoff spot for all sports. As Longview promises to make the playoffs in every sport, the MPs, Hallsvilles, and Pine Trees all compete for the two remaining spots (depending upon at least one taken by THIGH, SS, and Marshall). All in all, many of the remaining teams seem to understand the likelihood of district success is severely limited and threatened. Hope may spring eternal in MP, but from the team I saw after all the injuries, a 'rebuild' is much more likely than a 'reload'.

Congrats to both teams on a truly hard fought game
