They might be ok, but watch out for those SS wildcats. I have heard great things about them and expect them to be headed to the tournament. They have a phenomenal Coach and a superb Asst. Coach that is on the verge of big things himself. There is absolutely no reason they shouldn't win it all. I have watched many games and seen them win games simply by the adjustments their staff make at half. NOTICE HAS BEEN ISSUED!

I can handle a "physical team" description of Poteet... but Poteet "whacking, fouling, bringing bloodshed, implying that they put together a game plan of fouling a player out of the game, fouling from behind, elbows to the head" seems to imply cheap, dirty, unsportmanslike play. Regardless, the implication was there that you thought Poteet was more than physical. I mean think about... would all of these people replied to your post if you were just saying Poteet was physical. Say what you want to say but up until your last post you were discrediting a very solid ball club and their success as labeling them a cheap, whacking, bloodshed, fouling, team. FYI... the Dallas Moring News made those comments before the COlony game. ANd up until that point NO ONE from the DMN had attended a Poteet game. The only reference I know of as Poteet playing too physical was in the McKinney paper... so I think woody is dead on. Once again... nothing wrong with labeling a team as physical and intimidating... maybe that is what you should have said to begin with.

scholsie18, I do not understand the hate for Poteet? Not only on here but turfmonster... you constantly bash a team that has fought its butt off. Yeah... they lost in the regional final to a good colony squad but you seem to play Poteet into this non-soccer squad who tries to intentionally hurt people... or perhaps bring "bloodshed" as you so eloquently put it on turfmonster. Why is there so much frustration to Poteet? Were you on the other side of a Poteet "bloodshed" game? Did they come in "cleats up" and have "SHANKS" in their shin guards, or maybe they just did not play soccer and tried to "beat you into submission"? I have seen Poteet play for many years... and I have seen a quality squad every time! But according to SCHOLSIE18 they are just plain dirty... they must have gotten many ejections and cards throughout this year for their "criminal style". OHHHH YEAH... they finished in the bottom of the district with card points with a total of 7 total team points. WHAT A DIRTY< INTENTIONALLY HURTING TEAM... please scholsie U2U me... if you want to talk anymore of Poteet physical play. And back to topic... good luck to all that have made it this far... should be a great match.

I am a regular reader of this former and every so often I post. I usually post whenver I feel it necessary to defend a friend and or program. I grew up in East Texas and used to play against Mt. Pleasant. I know the former Coach Mayfield and the current. Both are great coaches and men of great character. To my point... a previous poster seemed to imply that Coach Mayfield and his tigers were practicing illegally after school. I can garuantee you that if MP was practicing after school then Coach Mayfield was not part of or plan this practice. This is coming straight from the horse's mouth. MP is somewhere around 60 percent hispanic. These boys love to play soccer... before school, after school, and or during lunch. Just because you see 22 hispanics out there kicking the ball does not mean they make up MP's squad and if they do make up this squad I am pretty sure the only thing that matters is that Mayfield was not participating/planning/coordinating before, during or after this practice. Which he assured me he was not. The post seemed to give one the impression that MP will be succesful this year because they were practicng after school... thus cheating. For them to be cheating.. means Coach Mayfield was apart of it. I say shame on you for dragging a program and a man that is well respected by his colleagues through the mud. I can deal with the childish name calling and the immature converstions... but it is unresponsible and just plain not right to throw cheating accusations out here on a program/man that apparently you know very little about. Lastly, when MP has success this year it will only happen because of a great program with rich tradition and a dang good coach. My two cents.

the last east texas team to make it to state was Mt. Pleasant and I believe they did a much better job a representing east texas.

Poteet played Pearce to a 1-0 loss as well as playing Lake Highlands close. Pearce and Lake Highlands are very, very solid this year. Poteet only lost three starters from last year's team, so like PT they have a lot of experience. Look for Poteet to try and redeem last year's lost. They should be solid. Be sure to post details on how it goes. Good luck to both teams.

Whose got the scoop on this game? How did MP look... Same for Athens.

Just curious how they "blew it"? I was not at the game but I heard thay PT is pretty good this year and I saw in the Nac paper that they (NAC) were young. Or as their coach put it... it was going to be a challenging season. How did Nac look? How bout PT? Did the better team win? Jacket10... hook it up with some info.

M.P. played in Greenville starting at 7:10. You did play the reserves and JV. The coach sent one of his assistants with the varsity that left from Mt. Pleasant and traveled in a bus to Greenville. The games were pushed back in order for Coach Mayfield to go to Longview with his other team and then leave via his own car to Greenville.

Yeah... I am pretty sure. If you still spell Mt. Pleasant, this way.

sulphur springs 0 greenville 0 sulphur springs 1 red oak 1 (i believe) mt. pleasant 3 red oak 0 mt. pleasant 0 greenville 2 all games were played in greenville... each game was 40 minutes long, so it was hard to get a real good read on any of these teams. it is very early to be evaluating but here is my 2 cents. sulphur was suprising solid, considering they lost basically everyone to graduation. coach holt and coach peek are really getting the best out of that talent pool and the boys are performing well. should be a solid team. greenville also looked solid. they seemed pretty banged up with several starters on the bench not seeing action tonight. although the reserve guys who played seemed not to miss a beat. should be a very competitive squad. red oak was also a suprise playing sulphur to a draw. although they could not get it going against MP. rumor has it they are down and have lost a couple of key players for various reasons but the new coach there is proving they can compete. Mt. Pleasant looked pretty good. A very impressive win over red oak and the greenville scrimmage was a battle. WOuld not be surprised to see them make another long run. good luck to all these teams. my two cents...
