  1. If you're coming in early enough, Babe's Chicken about 10 minutes south down 377 in Roanoke opens at 4:30. There's also a Hard Eight BBQ and Twisted Root Burgers right there in Roanoke. All three great places to eat before the game. There's a Fuzzy's Taco and a new Pizza Place about 3 minutes north of campus on 377 in Argyle. Don't know how many will make the trip but Liberty's visitor stands aren't huge. Celina usually fills them up and overflows to SRO.
  2. The new turf is in and good to go. Sorry y'all have to make the drive. Gilmer should win this game going away. Liberty has only 55-60 kids in the entire program this year. A coaching change 3 years ago really gutted the program and this is the low water mark in the rebuilding process. This game was scheduled...and then Liberty had 4 starters transfer out over the summer...4 of their best players...all 4 now starters at local 6A schools. They aren't quite playing ironman football but the whole team plays both ways, some the entire game. They are currently without their top WR/S, 3 starters on the OL, and a starting LB. And last week lost their #2 WR who was also their #1 CB for the season. Hopefully they will be getting another starting WR back from injury this week. The only reason they have even been in games is the play of their QB. He's a dynamic playmaker with his feet and arm. Not a big guy at all but is good for about a half dozen "wow" moments every game it seems. Was an all state WR last season. Of course he is banged up too after taking a lot of hits last week. The defense is Swiss cheese so far. Celina and Melissa both torched the D with their running game...they didn't even really have to pass. But the D has given up some big passing plays as well...including a crippling 80+ yard TD pass on 3rd and 31!!!! Liberty is on their 3rd DC in 3 years and the early returns aren't good on the new guy. I'd expect Gilmer to top 60. One thing about Liberty is the players have a never quit mentality. Trailed 42-17 late in 3rd be Melissa before rallying back to tie it. Trailed 28-7 vs Celina in 3rd before cutting it to 34-31 and 41-37. Problem is if they let Gilmer run away early they won't be able to get enough stops to get back in it. I'll say 63-35 Gilmer wins it.
  3. It will be a tall order for Prestonwood to get a win against either of their East Texas foes. They do have premium athletes but I'm not sure what their OL will look like. They lost a D1 tackle and I believe 3 other starters. Couple that with an inexperienced, though supremely talented, QB and Gilmer and Henderson could both jump out early. It will be interesting to see if they use the older Mitchell offensively, and whether it's at WR or RB. He hasn't played two ways before and may not have the conditioning to be effective early in the season while doing that. They do have a little scat back that's fairly quick, as well as the youngest Mitchell who is a freshman RB and shares his athleticism as well as his last name with his brothers. Irvin Jr. is also just a freshman, though an almost 16 year old freshman. To me, the depth out in East Texas is likely to be more experienced against top flight competition than the young depth at Prestonwood. Also, just to clear one thing up...Prestonwood does recruit/induce/cheat/whatever...and they do it well. It will only be a matter of time before that is exposed and the more high profile their non-district schedule gets, the quicker that exposing will occur. Celina knows it, and won't schedule them because of it. My job as a Military Recruiter had me in Collin County for 5 years before retiring to Lake Fork (jealous?) and my sister never paid a dime of tuition for my nephew (who shall remain nameless) to play there. It was good for him at the time but both have said they have regretted the decision to be at Prestonwood ever since because of what the school espouses vs. what it practices. She pulled her daughter out of the school at the end of last year after having enough of the school. They are a black eye to TAPPS, and the majority of schools that fall in line with the rules and regulations that organization preaches. And yes, I am biased after having two sons of my own play for one of the schools in TAPPS that does it right and seeing one that does it wrong firsthand during my nephew's time there.
  4. No doubt both Gilmer and Henderson have the skins on the wall to expect to beat anybody. Just wanted to give you a little info on Prestonwood: LB Mike Mitchell (2013) 6'4" 220, 4.4 Scout, Rivals and ESPN 4-Star http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/150492/mike-mitchell Set national SPARQ record over the summer http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/8137631/mike-mitchell-wins-sparq-rating-national-championship Considering Ohio State, Florida State, Texas A&M and TCU and holds 51 scholarship offers 151 tackles and 11 sacks as a Junior DE/LB for Plano West TE/DE Christian Morgan (2013) 6'4" 245 Scout 4-Star, Rivals and ESPN 3-Star http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/135091/christian-morgan Committed to Florida State and holds in excess of 15 offers DE Zach Missimo (2013) 6'4" 235 Receiving interest after a big summer, including heavy interest from Stanford and West Virginia QB Mickey Mitchell (2015) 6'6" 210 #2 Rated Basketball Player in the country for the class of 2015 by ESPN Has over 20 D1 Basketball offers, with 10 of those being Dual Sport Offers A dual threat QB with great athleticism who was the backup varsity QB at Plano West as a freshman Yes, the Mitchell's are brothers and the sons of a former NFL Linebacker. And there is another one that will be a freshman this season and could earn playing time. It wouldn't shock me to see them 0-2 after the first two weeks, but they could win one or both of those matchups if they are connecting early in the season with their 4 and 5 wide up tempo offensive attack. Defensively it's all about Mike Mitchell, who may be the most talented Linebacker in the country.
