They divide their schools up by division based on enrollment size.  Division I are the largest schools.  Division IV are the smallest schools.

But they have two titles per division.  Select and non-select.

If a school is a private school, a charter school, or a public school that has open enrollment....they are places in the SELECT bracket.

If it's just a public school with no open enrollment.... it's put in the non-select bracket.

So....even as small as Louisiana is.....they have EIGHT state champions.  A select and a non-select for each division I, II, III, and IV.

They kind of do the same in Michigan. Schools are divided into divisions. 1-8. 1 being largest, 8 being smallest except for 8 man. There are even 2 divisions for 8 man. So in total 10 state champions in Michigan. All sports are done this way.

I agree. Texas High really looked solid on both sides of the ball.  Of course, recovering three (maybe four) Whitehouse turnovers (including an interception by one of the Tigers defensive linemen) also helped make the score even better for the Tigers.  Their # 3 and # 4 were speedy running backs that fought all night.

What I found funny (and I have no dog in this hunt as I am from Longview), was I was listening to the Whitehouse broadcast on the internet while at the game.  I do not think I have ever heard any bigger homers and individuals that do not know the rules (other than maybe Gilmer's broadcast team sometimes) than the ones from Whitehouse.  Any time the QB from Whitehouse had an incompletion, all you heard was, "that was interference!"  Again, no dog in the hunt (I just knew this was the biggest game in East Texas last Friday and wanted to see a good game and I knew the Lobos would handle Tyler easily). They complained about literally every play and every call.  I just thought the consistent whining by the internet broadcasters about the officials and even more so, the Texas High coach was funny, yet very sad.

With that said, Whitehouse has some very good players and is well-coached, as does Texas High. It would be nice to see them meet again in the playoffs, but with Terrell, Crandall, and eventually Melissa and Lovejoy down the road, I seriously doubt if would happen.

Agreed on the Whitehouse broadcast team. I had yo watch their broadcast when they played at MP. They are very much homers and always say something about officiating when it doesnt goes the Wildcats way.

One of the people running chains that night said that two players we're fighting, and a coach went to break it up. When the coach grabbed one of the players to separate them the player threw the coach down, thinking it was other players trying to get in the fight.

I didn't watch the game this week, but my thoughts on this are this, to be where Mt Pleasant was a couple weeks ago this game had to be frustrating and I'm sure tempers were high, but you gotta be able to control emotions better than that. All that mess on the sideline did was make for an uncomfortable bus ride home, I would hate to be at practice today. The amount of gashers, snakes, and bear crawls would be brutal, and now it's in the low 40s.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they went ahead ad forfeited the game against Hallsville and end the season. But Cluley may not considering they have a slim to none chance of making the playoffs.

  4. This game is shaping up to be the best game in the area Friday night.

As long as Mount Pleasant can keep the penalties and turnovers in check, they should be able to keep up with the Wildcats. Their secondary can be really good. We all know how good the run defense is. The offense goes as McMinn goes. If the Wildcats stop him then it will be a long night for the Tigers.

The way our OL got dominated… it wouldn’t have mattered.

Tom Brady could have been back there and it was going to be bad.

MP is big on the DL. And they absolutely imposed their will on the OL.  They were in our backfield as much as our backs were.

Calling it vanilla is being too kind.   It was LAZY. Period.

That was the best the defense has played all season. Couple of those lineman are freshman.

  6. MP losing to Emerson is no surprise. But there was some questionable calls by the refs. One of which was a touchdown on a play where the chains werent set yet. Do the chains have to be set for a play to be ran?

There was also a few punches, thrown after that play, by MP. They had some fire in them to start the game but after the punched thrown, the fire died. What is the rules on ejections for punches? Will the player be out for 1 half or 2 halves? If it is 2 halves then the MP player will miss the first half of the THigh game.

  7. The #3 ranked team in 5A D2 travels to Mount Pleasant to take on the Tigers.

The Mavericks come into the game 3-0 while the Tigers come into the game 2-0. The Tigers last game against LE being cancelled due to the weather.

The Tigers came out a little flat in the game against LE which ended up putting them behind at the half 12-7 before the game was called.  They may have been looking ahead to this game. I look for the Tigers to be ready for this as they can consider this a revenge game from last years beating at the hands of the Mavericks.

Even though the Tigers will be ready, I do not think they will be able to handle the Mavs. They may stay close until halftime but I look for this to end up being a blowout. As A Tiger fan, I hope it is not a blowout. Especially with district play right around the corner.

Carthage is the defending state champions chapel hill was in the state semifinals last year. Not saying they’re not good but I stand by my post. Yes I know that’s 4A. I believe Carthage and chapel hill can beat some 5A D2 schools. Good luck against them though.

Definitely not say Emerson could beat those teams either. Just think they would have a great game with CHill. Carthage might have their way with them.
