  1. Looking forward to getting the season started after having to watch everybody else last week. The size difference in these two schools gets bigger every year and for that reason you have to favor Texas High. I think they will be better than last year with more experience this year but the lack of size and experience on the offensive line concerns me. I think Texas High will win by a couple of touchdowns. Adjusting to the rules in Arkansas always presents a challenge, especially the offsides difference on defense between Texas and Arkansas high school rules.
  2. I say whatever 5 you can get on the field right now especially at guard. The offensive line is all about continuity and sticking somebody in there late in camp or in preseason just fouls everything up. This offensive line needs plenty of time to work together and gel so I don't think an injured player coming in late is going to help that any.
  3. Sad thing is, they had 12 picks in that 2008 draft. That is the draft that Jerry Jones said they were going to use their picks to shore up the special teams, interesting concept to me. 5 years later, they have no one left out of all those picks to help the team. Now that's ineptitude at it's best. I'm pretty sure two or three of those picks, if they were made wisely, could be helping this team right now.
  4. The battle a few years ago in the first round of the playoffs between Texas High and Highland Park at Tyler's Rose Stadium. Ryan Mallett led Texas High and Matthew Stafford led Highland Park. Texas High jumped out to a big lead but when Highland Park got going, they were impossible to stop and rallied to win the game. It was a lot of fun to watch these future NFL quarterbacks, who both played well, slug it out on the field.
  5. The offensive line has needed improvement for a few years now and to me that just has not been enough of a priority. They have made a few additions, but with it being the glaring weakness on this team I don't feel like enough has been done. The other position that has not been made a priority is safety. They have settled at that position for several years and continue to be weak there in my opinion. I think outside of those two areas, they are a pretty good football team. Once again going in to this season, those will be the two big question marks. If there is improvement there, I think they make the playoffs. If not, it's another sub par season and once again there will be a new coach in Dallas and they will be starting all over again.
  6. A great kid from a great family. I wish him nothing but the best!
  7. Will the Silvey kid that came from Arkansas High play quarterback this year for Pleasant Grove? He was the quarterback for the Razorbacks last year and did a pretty good job. If he is the Hawks QB and they put some other pieces around him, they might be a little better than some people might think.
  8. I also congratulate the Hawks on a great season. I think if you had told Coach Jones before the year started with two returning starters and no pitching experience that he would be state runner-up, he would have taken it. Those two returning starters were bottom of the lineup guys last year and one of them had to be moved to a new position. Coach Jones and his staff did a great job of completing the lineup and pushing the right buttons all year. I know the year started rough, but they got their team to play their best ball when it counted most. They have alot coming back next year, especially plenty of pitching. They should be favorites to make their 7th straight state appearance and who knows what will happen then. Congratulations again and the Pleasant Grove community should be proud of what they accomplished!
  9. If my memory is correct, Wash submitted his resignation after the incident. Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan refused to accept it. Sometimes second chances are warranted and I feel like in this case it was successful!
  10. Great job by the Hawks. Just unbelievable what they have accomplished the last 6 years. I don't know how someone hasn't thrown a six-figure a year job at Craig Jones and enticed him to leave. This is probably his and his staff's best coaching effort. Just think, they will be good again at least the next two years with arguably their best pitcher, Jarrod Bayless, only being a sophomore.
  11. Pleasant Grove has a great program and much credit is due to their coaches. They really have got it going when it counts this year and have a chance to make it back to state again. But let's be honest, they really benefitted from some move- ins this year after losing so much last year. Their game one and game two starters in the playoffs weren't even on this team last year. They were fortunate to get the Jeans kid from Arkansas High and the Willige kid moved back from Louisiana to play for the Hawks after having previously played and pitched for Texas High last year. Having the Silvey kid come over from Arkansas High as a position player and pitcher has helped also. That program just knows how to win and does a great job of bringing up younger kids and plugging in new additions and keeps rolling. Good luck Hawks and keep the state tournament appearances going!
  12. Imagine Princeton's surprise when they got to Pleasant Grove's "#3" pitcher. Their top pitcher this year, Jarrod Bayless, had not pitched in the playoffs due to a finger injury. Pleasant Grove runs him out there for game 3 and he hurls a 3-hit shutout. Great job by all 3 pitchers in this series for PG!
  13. Texas High's band director, Buddy Deese, is retiring after 20-25 years at the helm. Arnie Lawson, the band director at Pleasant Grove has accepted the position. Best of luck to Mr. Deese in his future endeavors and best of luck to Mr. Lawson at Texas High. Looking forward to the new direction that Mr. Lawson will bring!
  14. Texas High has 2 great junior players next year in Chanell Hayes and Jalissa Trotter. Probably made his decision very easy!
  15. Sorry that I don't see Romo through the same rose colored glasses that you do. I'm not afraid to call a spade, a spade!
  16. This reminds me of the Rangers overpaying for A-rod. They could have resigned Romo for a far lesser deal than this I think. What is done is done. It is time now to put an emphasis on this offensive line. No more backups and undrafted free agents. High draft picks and top tier free agents need to be a priority for the line. Look at the 49ers. That team will be good for a LONG time. Mainly because they have put an emphasis on their offensive line. A stout offensive line will improve the running game and hopefully make Romo more effective. If they shore up that offensive line and Romo continues not to get them any further, it will all be on him!
  17. Very well played and especially pitched game. Great size on the Bayless kid and being only a sophomore, the sky is the limit for this kid. Neither team looked great at the plate and will struggle when facing good pitching. Solid defense by both teams except the throwing/mental error by Paris to allow the only run to score. Chadwick pitched great and really uses his legs well in his delivery. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and I was glad to get to go out and see it.
  18. Tonight at Texas High, the Texas High Tigers defeated the Mt. Pleasant Tigers 9-7. Texas High scored 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth to overtake Mt. Pleasant. Kopech and Fant started for both teams. Fant struggled with his control for most of the game especially missing high in the zone. His reliever was rudely greeted with a grand slam by Mt. Pleasant with all the runners aboard being Fant's responsibility. Kopech pitched well into the sixth inning but was hit hard to start the inning and grew fatigued with an increased pitch count. His relievers were ineffective and Texas High went ahead on a three run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
  19. Lots of blame to go around for this loss. I think Romo is a good quarterback but I also agree he doesn't get it done at elimination time. I would much rather have him than two thirds of the quarterbacks in the NFL. Lets put an emphasis on the offensive line, ride the running game and see how much better he can be. It worked for Washington last night. I do think they need to develop a young quarterback at some point in time but a better talent evaluator than Jerry Jones needs to find him (no Stephen McGee). The next step on this team needs to be improving the defensive line. Find some guys at the nose tackle and defensive end positions that can improve play there, and help with the pass rush. The injuries for this team became ridiculous but yes it was not only an excuse but also a reason for some poor play. With the loss, the Cowboys finished third in the division. This is their third place schedule for next year. They have their six division games. Home games- Green Bay, Denver, Oakland, St. Louis, and Minnesota. Away games- Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City, San Diego, and New Orleans. Good luck!
  20. I expect this will be a close game and the Cowboys will fight to the end just like they have the last several weeks. I think between the hostile environment, cold weather, and especially the injuries in the middle of the Cowboys defense, the Skins will take this one. Hopefully the Cowboys won't get off to a bad start and will commit to Murray early and often. I think Robert Griffin III's knee injury will keep him from running much and that is one less element the Cowboys will have to worry about. No matter the outcome, I am proud of this Cowboys team and their performance at the end of this season.
  21. I like this signing. The more left handed bats in that ballpark, the better! I have always thought this guy was a chump but all is forgiven now that he is a ranger. Productivity at catcher was a key in the Rangers two World Series appearances with Molina and Napoli. Maybe A J will provide that punch that they didn't have last year.
  22. Once again, this team won't quit! Really felt good for the Cowboys to pull this one out. Murray really helps this team and it's so nice to have that running back that can convert short yardage plays. Romo continues to play well and is a different quarterback when he doesn't turn the ball over. The pass rush finally showed up and this defense just can't get the job done if it doesn't. The other team will find McCray early and often. I think they have seen that they need to get the ball in Dwayne Harris' hands, he'll make some plays. I thought the offensive line held up well. Every week is a playoff game now, and the Cowboys are getting it done!
  23. I was really glad the Cowboys won this game. For all that they had been through the prior couple of days, I think they deserved a little happiness. Maybe there was some divine intervention with the dropped passes and interceptions by the Bengals. It was good to see them finish a comeback for the first time in a while. One thing you can say about this team, THEY DO NOT QUIT! DeMarco Murray makes all the difference in the world. Just think how much better he would be if he wasn't hitting an offensive linemen that has been pushed back in the backside after his first few steps!
  24. This guy would look great in a Dallas Cowboys uniform next year!
  25. The Cowboys have only beaten one good team this year and that was the Giants on opening night. This team is so banged up in the middle of the defense now with backups playing at nose tackle, inside linebackers, and one safety position. That's why they have been run all over the last few games. I see the offensive line struggling in this game against a good front. That leads to turnovers and probably a Cowboy loss. Hopefully the running game will be effective like it was last week and the Cowboys can keep it close until the end. Maybe then they will pull it out, but I'm not optimistic.
