  1. Longview has always cut it close on their 8 minutes. When I was in band, there were times we were coming off the field as the time was hitting 0. Mr. Durham takes the 8 minutes seriously, and rarely has any time left on the clock at contest.
  2. Boy, Lufkin has fallen off some. I remember when Lufkin made straight 1's, along with Longview at Marching AND C&SR. Good to see Longview's Varsity and NV groups get 1's. The Sweepstakes streak continues for the Lobo Band.
  3. With a guy like Mr. Lovelace at NM, they are in good hands, and have been as long as he's been there. He was my director in 6th grade at Judson for Beginning band, when we was an assistant at Longview under Bobby Richardson. I saw them at NAMMB and was very impressed with their performance and overall sound. DeKalb was very good as well.
  4. I was always very critical of the performances I took part in, and whne watching Longview march today, I am still looking for the mistakes. But, I know that the kids are taught well enough, I hope, to not make too big of mistakes, and the music is always well-done. When I see a band get a 3, 4, or 5, I am always wondering "what went wrong?" Was it the way they were taught, everyone have a bad day at contest, or what? Sometimes, I'd love to read the judges' comments on all of the bands at contest, to find out what the judges saw.
  5. Ok, sorry, I forgot that Longview did go 2 more times. I'ts been so long, lol. Time flies. I guess I'm just biased towards Longview, lol. I got tired of Kingwood beating us every year at NAMMB, when I thought we had a better performance a few times. I still think it's easier to play more clearly when you're not even marching that fast. Slow it down, and anyone could sound great. If Kingwood sped it up to 120, I bet they'd sound like Longview.
  6. The judges did do comments for Longivew. Be honest, what did you think Kingwood did better flaggurl? And Longview's heart not in it???? What did you see that I didn't? Longview did an outstanding job on their drill. Kingwood had several marching mistakes. Even marching slow and they messed up. And, Longview hasn't "competed" at NAMMB since I was a Senior. That is b/c of all the politics involved in the judging. The decision to not "compete" was Mr. Durham's decision. Maybe I'm just biased, b/c I am a former Lobo Band member, but Longview was better than Kingwood last night. Yeah, Kingwood's drill was a bit impressive, but I still think Longview was better.
  7. Spring Hill was awesome. They won 1st place in 3A. Cleveland was 2nd, Carthage 3rd. In 2A, New Boston was 1st, DeKalb 2nd and Hemphill 3rd. Kingwood was good, but they march wasy too slow for my liking. It's easy to play when you're marching about 90 bpm. Longview, IF they were being scored, I think would've beat Kingwood last night.
  8. Another heart attack game. These kids have a lot of heart, character, and a ton of luck on their side this year. The defense broke a few times, but made the stops when they needed it late. Miles' run was great. We needed that. The offense kept shooting themselves in the foot, and Decker missed another "easy" FG for him.
  9. Yeah, we will see. I'm just looking forward to seeing some bands that I don't get to see all the time. That's why I went to Region 21's contest, that and to watch Longview get #57
  10. Well, seeing as how I haven't SEEN Cleveland or Spring Hill this year, I'm merely making an OPINION. Sorry if I offended you. Just haven't seen all of the band. I merely said they had a good performance at UIL Region. Besides, isn't Cleveland 4A? Carthage is 3A, he said they'd win 3A......right? I just stated my opinion, but as was mentioned, politics plays a lot into this contest, which is a shame.
  11. You're right. Back when I was in the Lobo Band, it was the only band to attend NAMMB EVERY year. Well, b/c of the politics in the judging, Longview stopped going the year after I graduated, if I'm not mistaken. It was a shame. I used to love going to A&M to see the Aggie Band after our performance. But, Kingwood always managed to beat us, when we were better than them IMO. Now, Longview will only perform as the exhibition, and Kingwood will walk away with all of the awards probably, they're the only band in 5A Varsity that will show up. I wish Humble and Lufkin would show up, but oh well. I was hoping there'd be enough bands for the contest to last all day, not just 4 hours. Oh well, good way for Longview to shine though. Bet it kills Kingwood to have to come all the way up here for a contest.

  13. I wouldn't doubt that honestly. Carthage had a great show at UIL Regional. It was rather impressive.
  14. Haven't seen them to judge them. Should be interesting. I haven't seen them this year, only saw them once a few years ago at a football game. If you wanted to know what we thought of SH, just ask that.
