  1. It was. One of the best men and coaches there ever was - Coach Jack Murphy!
  2. Actually, they are playing one "home game" in Bullard.
  3. What high schools are planning on holding spring football workouts and having a "spring" game? Post dates for games, if known. I noticed on lobofootball.com that Longview will have their spring game on April 23rd.
  4. Isn’t isn’t that what refs are supposed to do? Glad they were not noticed & the boys got to play the game.
  5. So how were the refs for the Garrions-Clifton game?
  6. Kirtfalcon, did the same refs officiate the Garrison game? How did that go?
  7. Hey KirtFalcon, have you heard if Garrison will be healthy this week? Specifically, will Tutt be back?
  8. 3rd cousin, once removed. On their dad's side...
  9. "Their"...they need to work on their crews...
  10. Hey Crank, why don't you crawl out of the stands, grab a whistle, put on the stripes & see what it is like to be an official? Too many arm-chair, Ed Bundy-types think they know everything about the job. Sign up with a local chapter in your area and take the required rules & mechanics exam. Let's see how you do. You can even give the rules a try here on SDC under the "You Make the Call" posts to text your actual knowledge (or lack thereof).
  11. Many have them in their bag. Too big to carry on field, even the small versions (no such thing as a "pocket reference" model). Of course, there have been times when having one WOULD have been nice!
  12. REB, in order to officiate a Friday night (varsity) level game, an officiall is required to take and pass the state exam each year prior to working.
  13. If you mean "4 or 5,000" as in four or five thousand, then Cujo, you must have taken math at John Tyler. Good quality astro turf costs about $15 per square foot. Since there is about 58,000 square foot on a regulation football field - then it would cost around $870,000. And addressing this topic in general - unless there is a corporate sponsor or donor to step forward, I serious doubt that there will be any improvements to Rose Stadium, especially considering the layoffs and other financial cutbacks TISD is talking about. Of course, we could cut the super's position, along with all of the non-essential "directors" positions (which just about ALL of them) and we would have enough money to do some work out there!
  14. Five-Oh I spoke with our academy director & he said they do not delve into those areas, as they are more "department policy specific" issues. In my college courses, we speak of the Supreme Court's allowance of DWI checkpoints (in the Sitz case) and the prohibition of similar drug checkpoints (from other cases).
  15. And since you are the part of the LIBERAL PRINT MEDIA we are eye-balling every move YOU make! Just waiting for you to slip up!
  16. Thanks Rab. I sure have hated seeing all the SPAM #### coming across...but I do agree with others that my issue with the new look is the "colors." Otherwise, I like the layout especially when I access it from my phone.
  17. Kind of what I was thinking. Either start playing (ie hitting) like someone who belongs in the MLB or shut the hell up!
  18. Watched Ryan Dempster pitch a gem against the White Sox yesterday on CSN & about to watch my Cubbies on WGN play the Reds! Yes! I agree with you Etos! Live is good...very good!
  19. I grew up in a small town here in East Texas (a 3A school) and as long as I was in school (late 1960's to 1980) we had the same super. He remained with the school for a number of years after I was long gone until he finaly retired. A very respected man, fair & had the best interests of the school always in mind. Sure, he had to make some tought decisions over the years, but no one tried to control him. The people knew he not only grew up in our town, but had taught before hand and worked his way up. Much like football coaches who don't stay a one school for their careers (ours was there from the late 1960's until his death in 1990's) supers seem to go where the money is. Of course, the culture of the town has a lot to do with both situations. With that said, while I always thought the Tyler ISD super made way too much money - I have to say that the Longview super's pay simply shocks me!
  20. If you are referring to Schenck v United States (1919) and it "clear and present danger" test, it was replaced by the "imminent lawless action" standard in 1969 from the Brandenburg v Ohio case. I agree with Dave on this one...however, why not return the favor (as suggested by Parent) and protest their church every time the doors are open, its leaders (at their work & home), and its protesting members (also at their work & home). Let's see if they can take what they dish out...and let's see if their employers will stand for it...
  21. They shouldn't hate us - one of their Islamic Brothers is in the White House!
