  1. Would love to see AJ Wilson and big Matt Shepperd back in Marshall. Two young great coaches
  2. Saginaw is the town on the right track. If you know, you know. Choo choo
  3. You would think, but several local schools have already had positive cases and have been non-chalant with their response. I see this as a warning shot for people to get their acts together.
  4. Fly high Skeet. This is a huge loss for his family and the Maverick family.
  5. The day is fast approaching us. I pray that all the student athletes, coaches and trainers stay safe. We can all disagree on what we think about the testing and the virus, but I think we all agree, we want the best for everyone. To the athletes and coaches make sure you are already hydrating yourself. God Bless, stay safe!
  6. That would help for this year only. Going to August, may as well have year round school.
  7. Old school, district champions only in the playoffs?
  8. Personally I don’t think that works for small schools. 99% of our basketball players play football. 85-90% of our baseball players play basketball. I think that’s too much overlap for small schools, IMO. I do think it would work for larger classifications where there’s a larger pool of kids.
  9. Thanks for the response. It’s going to an interesting next few week.
  10. Serious question. If the call was made that sports, band could go on without fans in attendance, would you be for it? ****Disclaimer**** I have not heard this is an option, I just want to hear what people think.
  11. Not disagreeing with you at all on this. School districts are in between a rock and a hard place. I don’t know anyone who is excited about the idea of loss of more extracurricular events or virtual learning. What has made people throw out the philosophy of just cleaning the schools? IMO, it’s a couple of things. 1. We know the numbers and deaths have risen recently. 2. Lawsuit happy society. 3. Too many unknowns about Covid.
  12. Not in large, but all it takes is one or a school to have an outbreak.
  13. Most coaches have Dual Contracts. For 2020-2021, coaches have agreed to work for a certain salary. I guarantee you no coach is saying please cancel my sport, and I think districts will open themselves up for many grievances if they try this. If sports are cancelled in 20-21, look for districts to have a plan for coaching stipends based on completed seasons going forward.
  14. In our district we did all we could. Zoom, online, packets, calls, and anything else you could think of.
  15. And this is why I think that there won’t be sports in the fall. If they cancel all UIL extracurricular events, there’s nothing anyone can do.
  16. IMO no one wants to be the bad guy and they keep kicking this can down the road and on to the next person. The UIL and TEA are going to force ISDs to make these decisions. Local superintendents are going to be forced to make some tough decisions. IMO the school districts cannot make the “right” decision because they will be criticized for whatever they do. Let the kids play sports and Covid runs through the locker room and a student passes away, the same people calling for football right now, will jump on the why did you let the play band wagon. They have a plan for the STAAR test but are giving different guiding policies for opening schools this fall. It’s almost like the commissioner of education is pushing his charter school agenda. He tried to get everyone on the year round model and advised opening earlier, but when the districts didn’t jump on that train, now he says open later. I pray for our superintendent. This is a tough job and call. Selfishly, I want football in the fall.
  17. Schools can use this to make sure the students are doing their 240 daily minutes of online learning before they can practice or play.
  18. Schools may develop local policies with additional requirements for participation. Still a local decision.... UIL is saying that they are eligible if the LEA doesn’t develop additional policies.
  19. What’s sad is that it is within the 45 day penalty free resignation period. The district can hold them for 2020-2021. I do wonder if this move would hold its weight if the coaches filed a grievance. The coaches (more than likely) have a dual contract. Salaries cannot be reduced after the 45 day period unless the district files financial exigency. Just not 100% on the stipends...It could get interesting.
  20. I agree a good band can help a football atmosphere. Take Alto and John Tyler’s band, they get the stadium rocking
