  1. We won't know anything for sure until after the Big 12 Title Game on Saturday. If Nebraska somehow beats Texas then two Big 12 schools will go to the BCS, and everyone else will move up a notch in the bowl pecking order.
  2. LSU is enough of a money-making program that any investigation into any sort of serious allegations will either take so long that nothing comes of it or they will receive a slap on the wrist no matter what they do.
  3. The Sun Bowl really wants Tech...and that's where the intrigue lies. The Alamo picks just before the Sun, and just like the Texas Bowl is trying to buy off the Indy Bowl the Sun might be trying to do the same with the Alamo. Either way, Tech gets a good opponent and gets to play in the state of Texas. Not a bad deal. If I'm Tech I'd rather play Stanford or USC than Michigan State due to national publicity.
  4. I think Cowboys Stadium is already booked solid for next weekend with at least three already scheduled.
  5. The bowls are not required to take teams in order of finish...if they think OU would draw more fans/national attention they will take them to the Alamo Bowl. I have not heard anything official either way. I know Tech is lobbying hard for it. I think that is really the only bowl that is in question and I'm hearing that both OU and Tech think they have the best shot at it. It is also a toss-up between Michigan State and Minnesota. Right now I think Alamo might be leaning more to OU considering their big win over OSU last week...but you're right, it could very well be Tech. This is a very interesting year for bowl selection in the Big 12.
  6. ****UPDATED December 3rd**** Thought we'd condense a thread here for all the bowl rumors. Assuming Texas beats Nebraska (NOT a given, but a probability): (Bold signifies agreement is in place or will be in place soon.) BCS Title Game: Texas vs. Florida/Alabama Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma State vs Mississippi Holiday Bowl: Nebraska vs Pac 10 Runner-Up (Oregon State) Alamo Bowl: Tech or OU vs Minnesota or Michigan State Sun Bowl: Tech or OU vs USC or Stanford Insight Bowl: Iowa State vs.... Independence Bowl: A&M vs Georgia Texas Bowl: Missouri vs Navy New developments...folks in Missouri have either been informed or feel strongly that the Insight Bowl is going to pass them up in favor of Iowa State. Yes. Missouri will more than likely not go to the Insight Bowl but could fall all the way to the Texas Bowl. This is the same Missouri team that beat Iowa State just a few weeks ago and has a two-game advantage over them in terms of wins. But wins don't matter to the Insight Bowl, as they expect Iowa State would bring a bigger crowd than Missouri. This leaves open the possibility that Missouri could be taken in the Independence Bowl and A&M could fall to the Texas Bowl, but the Independence Bowl's representatives have been pretty clear in their desire to bring A&M to the game considering the fanbase. Word is that the Texas Bowl is trying to buy the Independence Bowl's pick so that A&M can go to Houston and fill the stadium. The Independence so far isn't selling and will likely pick A&M to face off against Georgia (whom they've already apparently come to an agreement with).
  7. Texas has athletes all over the floor and as soon as they start gelling as a team they'll be very tough to beat. Kansas is...Kansas. They are very good. A&M has played the toughest schedule in the country so far (according to the Pomeroy rankings) and is 5-1, losing only to #8 West Virginia in a tight game that could have gone either way. I like how these teams are looking early in the year. Looks like the Big 12 is going to have a nice run this season.
  8. My guess would be they want someone who can be both the head football coach and the Athletic Director. To be an Athletic Director you need an Administrator's Certificate...something a lot of these assistant coaches being named aren't going to have.
  9. If the plans come to fruition (and all indicators I've seen suggest they will), all soccer games will be played at the Lobo Soccer Complex across the street and the Longview-hosted tournament will be played at LeTourneau. I believe they might be moved back to Lobo Stadium if repairs are completed on time, but with the unpredictable East Texas winter weather I would not be shocked if the repairs lasted for most of the spring. I personally had no idea that it cost money to park at the stadium. I've never seen anything like that before. Was this recent, or a long time ago?
  10. My Dish Network feed of the game is blacked out...
  11. I'm done trying to predict what this A&M team can do this year. They could win by 40, they could lose by 40. My bet would be a close game. The key is the Aggie line protecting Johnson and establishing that run game. OU has to protect Jones and, well, establish the run game. This is just a strange game where anything might happen.
  12. In most scenarios, yes. Just read that if Whitehouse loses tonight (I'm not sure of the score) that Longview will end up with Kilgore no matter what. Game would be played in Kilgore next Friday. If Whitehouse wins and Jacksonville loses, Longview will get Jacksonville at Rose on Thursday. If Jacksonville and Whitehouse both win, Longview will get Whitehouse at a time TBD depending on stadium availability.

  14. We have found common ground! It is quite true that no one pays attention to anyone from anywhere other than Top 15 programs because the media frenzy is hard to sift through. A lot of the media picked their "favorites" before the season and work very hard to prove themselves right even when the facts dictate otherwise. Case in point, Jerrod was dropped from the Davey O'Brian award watch list despite being #2 in the country in total offense...Taylor Potts made the semifinals cut despite being benched. Has nothing to do with how good each player is whatsoever...has everything to do with public perception. I also think McCoy should have won the Heisman last year, and so do a lot of the media. I can't think of a player that would trade a National Title for an individual award, even the Heisman.
  15. The most outstanding player in the country is the defensive tackle playing for Nebraska. It is a complete joke that the award supposedly given to the "most outstanding player" always goes to a skill position player on the best team.
  16. WOW Word out of Boulder today is that once highly-touted running back Darrell Scott has cleaned out his locker and left the team. Scott was the arguably the nation's most highly-coveted running back out of high school in the 2007 graduation class. Scott leads the team in all-purpose yardage despite being limited much of the year by injury. Coach Hawkins says he left the team for "personal reasons" and will probably end up transferring to a school in California. http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB...TCLID=204826886 If Colorado can somehow find the cash to pay for it...Dan Hawkins might be next out the door. The curse of the Aggies continues: The week of the OSU Game: Dez Bryant ruled ineligible. The week of the Tech game: Sheffield goes down with injury and can't play The week of the ISU game: Arnaud still banged up and not as healthy as they thought The week of the CU game: Scott quits the team. Move aside Madden and Sports Illustrated...the Aggie curse is here.
  17. That stat puts a great deal of weight on completion percentage...seems like McCoy SHOULD lead Johnson in that stat considering these stat lines from the OU football game: McCoy is dead last in the Big 12 in yards per completion, Johnson is 3rd. A&M throws the ball down the field quite a bit...Texas, not so much. Tech threw 18,000 bubble screens against A&M a few weeks ago...sure it makes the QB rating pretty good. And I'm glad you brought completion percentage up, because it is the ONE passing stat that McCoy leads Johnson in.
  18. The reason they do it is because it is "clean" and there isn't a better way to do it..you have a predetermined playoff format which everyone can look at throughout the season that guarantees each district champion the right to play a runner-up in the first round of the playoffs from a predetermined district that is close in proximity. As you move up in the bracket you gradually play teams that are farther and farther away...eventually winning your "region" of Texas and moving on to the final four. It is a very clean format and unconfusing. Also keep in mind that with the current format schools by this point in the season know which teams they will likely play in the playoffs and can establish things like stadium possibilities and game times...if the format were to change to something else there would be mass chaos the day the bracket comes out to reserve stadiums and make travel plans. Let's say for the sake of argument that the format changed to something like this (which is probably what some of you are thinking of): Each district gets four (4) teams in. The UIL looks at the pool of teams in a classification that makes the playoffs and divides them in half by enrollment numbers. This is the only format that would guarantee that the biggest schools making the playoffs would all be in one bracket and vice versa. There is no guarantee that a single team from any district will be in any given bracket, and the brackets will have to be made up on the fly the day after the final games based on district standings. It gets entirely too complicated. Imagine if enrollment numbers end up being such that the traditional Region II has 13 teams and the traditional Region I has 5...the UIL, at the very last minute, would have to not only determine who plays who but in what region. They would have no way of knowing who would meet in the first round until the final day of games because a school in West Texas barely making the playoffs can tip the enrollment numbers and impact whether a "bubble" team from East Texas ends up in the D1 or DII bracket. You would need a whole week just to figure it all out. Crazy, crazy stuff. The reason a 6A is not being considered is because the larger schools are in areas that are not used to having to travel for athletic events and would not appreciate having to drive 40 miles to play a district volleyball game. It sounds silly, but that is one of the main arguments. It is hard to be in East Texas and being used to traveling decent distances for district games to appreciate the fact that in most districts around the state schools hardly travel more than 20 miles at a time until the playoffs.
  19. Plays behind a patchwork offensive line with his best receiver out most of the year and almost no running game to speak of until the last two weeks. Yet still manages to be #2 in the country in total offense, is the Big 12 record holder for consecutive passes thrown without an interception, and was the last starting QB in the country to throw a pick this season. Yeah, he's terrible. McCoy has time to throw and has more talent around him than most of the quarterbacks in the league yet throws more picks than half the quarterbacks in the country...he happens to have a top 5 defense on his team that has saved his behind this year and somehow that makes him a better quarterback? What are you smoking? I don't think McCoy is a bad player, but seriously...use some common sense.
  20. I've heard of a set of twins somewhere named "Lemongelo" and "Orangelo"...Lemon Jello and Orange Jello
  21. Texas' non-conference schedule was more laughable than A&M's...both were pretty lame. The only real difference is OU, and Johnson will get his shot in a few weeks.
