  1. This will be a very interesting matchup. I believe the HP offense will be extremely dangerous. The Texas High defense while they will probably bend, must stop drives before they become touchdowns. Give HP all the FGs they can make.

HP by all accounts are not near the defensive team they were last year. So if the Tigers are patient and watch the ball into their hands and not worry about YAC, they should have plenty of success on the offensive side of the ball. Receivers just need to let Ryan's arm direct them to the endzone. The doses of Roland Smith should make the HP defense play honest.

The travel for Highland Park will be a challenge. First they are travelling after Thanksgiving. Second the longest road trip for Highland Park was 26 miles to Forney. Shreveport is a 190 mile bus ride for the Scots (3 hours). The 80 miles Texas High is just another district game. Texas High only played 4 games in Texarkana and had road trips as follows:

    1) Tyler - 125 miles

    2) Cincinnati - 700+ miles

    3) Greenville (Waxahachie) - 130 miles

    4) North Lamar - 90 miles

    5) Lindale - 125 miles

    6) Paris - 90 miles

The Texas High kids are used to the trip on Friday. They know the routine.

  2. This weekend

Arkansas High plays for the Class 6A state Championship of Arkansas.

Texas High plays a tick of a team called Highland Park

Liberty Eylau play Tyler Chapel Hill

    Pleasant Grove plays Canton.

With Arkansas two playoff wins, Texarkana is guaranteed of a winning playoff record.

Also congrats to Atlanta & DeKalb on their winning ways.

  3. I bet you will see a nice article on Sunday on the game. The Gazette was spread thin with playoff games. I suspect with the sports editor out of town covering at game, the layout was set before everyone went out on their beats. Each person knew the column inches they had to fill. The betting money was on LE losing, so the column inches were the least.

I the LE/Gilmer game was still going as the Texas High crowd was headed back to Texarkana. I am sure there were deadline constraints.

    I give them a break.

  4. In the discussions on site for Rd 2 games, HP rejected Rose as a neutral site. I believe Nacogdoches (SFA) was proposed and rejected by HP as a neutral site. HP selected Ford Stadium at SMU as its home field and Texas High's "Home" site was Independence Stadium in Shreveport. In the "Coin Flip", Texas High won and the game will be played in Shreveport as Texas High's home site. It is not a neutral site. Therefore if the two teams meet in the next couple of years, the game automatically goes to HP's home site.

Interesting tidbit, apparently HP called today to see if Texas High was willing to go to a neutral site at Rose in Tyler.
