  1. The complexion of football in Texarkana has changed since the arrival of Gibson at PG and PGISD becoming “open enrollment”. I think some athletes that may have opted to attend Texas High have decided to attend PG. This includes transfers in to the Hawk program and retaining athletes residing within the district. While the Tigers still have a lot of athletes, I believe PG’s deep playoff runs at a lower classification has a draw that historically has not existed. Where athletes were attending primarily 3 schools, now there are 4 schools.
  2. I had been reading good reports in spring training. Surprised to see him drop off the depth chart. Think Riley recruited him. Kid has a motor.
  3. Texas continued their winning ways defeating Northern Arizona 73-48. Texas had a strong 1st half, but played to level of the competition in the 2nd. After a strong shooting night against Gonzaga, the Horns went cold from the outside. So the question of consistency remains. The win over Gonzaga catapulted the Horns to #4 in the nation. Next game is Saturday versus UTRGV at Gregory Gym as part of the Leon Black Classic.
  4. Curious if the back story was New Braunfels turned San Marcos for recruiting violations. If so, why did NB agree to the neutral field site? Not knowing the stadium, was there room in the stadium’s press box. The game was telecast by an Austin television station (not NFHS or Texans). Were there two broadcast booths and it was first come first reserved and the NB crew “assumed” they had space? If there was space, yes it was petty by San Marcos ISD. I have no doubt San Marcos officials knew the NB broadcast team as they are in the same district and the communities are approximately 15 miles from each other.
  5. I am pretty sure it’s tickets sold, not actual attendance that is reported. Won’t have to restock the concession stands.
  6. I knew Texas fans were fickle, but never expected to see the 12th men to completely abandon their team. Understand it was a throw away game, but still. Curious whether there were recruits in attendance.
  7. Few’s postgame statement: "[Texas is] a really, really, really good team," Few said. "They're old. Their guards (Marcus Carr and Tyrese Hunter] are terrific. They can both handle it. It's always great when you have two point guards like that who can shoot. They're athletic enough to switch ball screens. And so, yeah, they're the real deal." 3 “reallies” is impressive.
  8. Last night they could make their shots and hit free throws. Last week versus HCU they could not. You are correct “if they can score”. But the defense has been disruptive and should keep them in games. While Arkansas was an “Exhibition”, they were a highly regarded team similarly dismantled. I like what Beard is doing with the program. Specifically, I like how he is involving the student body. After all, it’s their team.
  9. Just wow! Brock Cunningham played the best minute of his career late in the first half. It was a great team effort. Love the offensive ball movement. The defense speaks for itself. Moody is going to be a tough environment to play for visiting teams.
  10. Are you talking about a scrimmage? Texas High has a relationship to scrimmage each year an undermanned school in Longview with a strange nickname of Lobos. If you are talking about a regular season game, there is one major drawback to the game - PG facilities. When Texas High played Arkansas High, each schools stadiums were comparable on the home/visitor seating. PG’s stadium was built at a time when the Hawk program was up and down. The visitor side will not accommodate the Texas High Band, Pep squad, and students let alone the parents of the nights festivities and loyal fans. Would PG administration be agreeable to play the game annually at Grim or have Razorback stadium the designated Hawk home site? I suspect that would be a sticking point to PG. I have attended THS-PG soccer games and the Visitor side at Hawk Stadium barely handled the Tiger fans. Best of luck Friday. Hope you win.
  11. I haven’t heard any UT fan say to start Card over Ewers in either the OSU or TCU games. Instead if entering the 4th quarter and Ewers is still struggling, why not see if Card can spark the offense. The opponents defenses have game planned for Ewers and not Card. Card is not a bad quarterback. In his three starts he completed 69% of his passes with 6 TDs and 1 INT.
  12. I will repeat I believe Ewers should be the starter. But Card does have attributes that Ewers does not have. He is a more mobile QB and he does have experience. I would have liked to see if Hudson’s threat to run would make the linebackers react differently. Would it open up the running game? Would it open up the intermediate pass as a linebacker would have to protect from a run by the QB. I only saw Ewers run once. Obviously the deep ball was not a threat last night. 3 points by a BIG 12 offense will not get the job done.
  13. To be clear, I have not given up on Ewers. He should start against Kansas. But when you have an experienced QB of the quality of Card, there are times you need make the change. If Card did not change the course of the game, in my opinion, you have to give a tip of the cap to TCU’s defense and move on to next week. Yes, Ewers receivers did not help him, but he seems at this point of his progression to be tunneled vision on his primary receiver. Contrary to some, I felt the line provided pass protection. Their issue was opening holes up the middle.
  14. Congrats to TCU winning a hard fought game.
  15. Second game Sark has forgotten he had QB 1A
  16. Most kickers played soccer … they know how to fake a dive.
  17. Time for Card. Need to try a QB that can run. Glad we found Whittington.
  18. If the offense doesn’t make the adjustments coming out of half, it will be time to change the chemistry.
  19. Texas 82 Houston Christian 31 The Longhorns were not playing Duke, but the defense was smoothering. Texas jumped out to a 16-0 lead before HCU scored in the 7th minutes of the game. The 31 points was the second lowest number of points allowed. If the deep bench had not played the last minutes of the game, HCU would not break 30 points. The negatives from the game were 3pt shooting and free throws. Texas was 3 of 22 from behind the arch (two of the baskets were from the end of the bench late in the game). The Horns were sub 50% from the line. If not corrected both could be problematic late in games. Not hitting 75% of one’s free throws is unacceptable. But the opponents are going to have a difficult time holding up to the pressure. Huge test upcoming with Gonzaga. Hopefully they will still have their sea legs when they arrive at Moody.
  20. I guarantee the broadcasters will be a step down from Chuck Zach w/ Longview Gameday. But TexanLive is a step up from NFHS. There should be a minimum standard for obtaining a contract. Crush Crosby.
