  1. Texas High 23 Nacogdoches 20 Spirited game by the Dragons. Did not play like a 1-8 team. Likewise, the Tigers did not play like an 7-1 team.
  2. Texas High 16 Nacogdoches 13 H Tiger line needs to tighten up their blocking. Too many TFLs. Need to put a spy on Nac QB. He has made several long runs. Never underestimate your opponent
  3. Sneaky feeling LE steals a win. Should be a good game.
  4. Think at least 4A should be included in the rule. But all Division playoffs should use the same number of games to advance. I understand due to numbers say 2A might be a one game series.
  5. Go reread the verbiage of the rule. You are right about it doesn’t have to be with the helmet. What you are missing is the “defenseless player” requirement. One of the exceptions of the rule is:• A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped. Two questions: 1) was the QB a ball carrier? I think the answer is yes. 2) He was in the grasp of a Texas defender, but was his forward momentum stopped when Cook contacted him? If he was still moving forward, by rule he was not a defenseless ball carrier. (Although I concur he was going down). The rule is like pass interference. It is difficult to understand when it is or isn’t called, but we know it when it is incorrectly applied to our team.
  6. Note there are two parts to the rule. 1) Leading with the crown of the helmet. 2) targeting a defenseless player. Question is whether the ISU QB was a defenseless player. The only one I think comes into play is “a ball player in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped”. He was in the grasp of a Texas defender, but was his forward progress stopped? I would have to look at the tape again. But in the course of every game you see a running back running low and contact above the shoulders. Was the QB a running back on this play?
  7. From the 2022 NCAA rule book: “Targeting and Making Forcible Contact With the Crown of the Helmet ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of their helmet. The crown of the helmet is the top segment of the helmet; namely, the circular area defined by a 6-inch radius from the apex (top) of the helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 9-6) (A.R. 9-1-3-I) Targeting and Making Forcible Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI) Note 1: “Targeting” means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to: • Launch. A player leaving their feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area. • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground. • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area. • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet. Note 2: Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14). When in question, a player is defenseless. Examples of defenseless players include but are not limited to: • A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass. This includes an offensive player in a passing posture with focus downfield. • A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect themselves or has not clearly become a ball carrier. • A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return. • A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect themselves or has not clearly become a ball carrier. FR-94 RulE 9 / ConduCt oF PlayERs and othERs subJECt to thE RulEs • A player on the ground. • A player obviously out of the play. • A player who receives a blind-side block. • A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped. • A quarterback any time after a change of possession • A ball carrier who has obviously given themselves up and is sliding feet-first.
  8. I disagree, I don’t think it was “clearly targeting”. What I saw was a leading with the shoulder pad. I personally don’t think there was a good television angle to justify a targeting call. We don’t know if they didn’t review for targeting.
  9. Only able to watch second half of the track meet. Future is bright for the Mavs. Good luck rest of way. Congrats to the Tigers.
  10. Safe travels to Maverick fans. Understand the ghosts of years past are on the east sidelines.
  11. THS was 5A-D1 in 2018. I think Tyler was the only D-1 in East Texas. I think the eastern suburbs of Dallas were happy to see the Tigers drop to D-2. It wasn’t because of competition, but they are not geared to 3 hour bus rides.
  12. Bo Davis, an assistant coach at Texas, had a rant last year about players that were not “all in” suggesting they look elsewhere. I think about 40 players left the program and by all accounts the program’s culture has changed for the better. Sounds like a similar message has been sent to players at OU. The question I have is whether after the exodus last year, can the program afford back to back years to players leaving the program. Transfers out are a reality of modern college football program. You hope those leaving the program are not your 2 deep and red-shirt freshmen being groomed.
  13. My understanding is they play 11 game regular season and a 28 team playoff. Keep in mind they don’t have a bowl system.
  14. I think 8 is the magic number. 32 game playoff would require 5 games on top of a 12 game regular season (which I don’t think the schools what to give up the gate revenue). 17th game of the National Championship run would be a competition of who has the best depth due attrition from injuries. Yes some teams will feel slighted, but the same holds true at 16 or 32 teams.
  15. I was impressed by Marshall’s running attack as I have been by the Tiger’s. This is a game decided in the trenches. I give the edge to Texas High due to the game is at Grim and they had a bye week to get the soreness out and game plan for Marshall. I expect a close game.
  16. I had issues scrolling my “favorites” and “districts”.
  17. Trash, I think it’s time for you to go lick your wounds on the OU thread.
  18. Trash, I have been trying to figure out which team you support. I know who you don’t. I suspect your application was rejected.
  19. Butt kicking never feel good on the losing side in this series. I like this side better, but have scars from being on the other side of the scoreboard.
  20. Congrats to Longview on winning the Team Tennis District title ending Texas High’s consecutive title streak that I believe was 31 years straight. Congrats to the Tigers on their second place finish.
  21. Question - what has happened to Clayton Smith? At one point he was #2 on the depth chart. I did not see that he participated today and was not on Ourlads depth Chart?
  22. I thought A&M had the weakest QB room in the Power 5 before today. My apologies to the Aggies, the Sooners have over taken you. I expected OU to come out in the second half and attempt to pass their way back into the game and get Mims engaged in the offense. It appeared a Defensive Coordinator was calling plays.
