Water By: Jim Crews Water is a transparent fluid which forms the world's streams, lakes, oceans and rain, and is the major constituent of the fluids of organisms. As a chemical compound, a water molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms that are connected by covalent bonds. Water is a liquid at standard ambient temperature and pressure, but it often co-exists on Earth with its solid state, ice; and gaseous state, steam. It also exists as snow, fog, dew and cloud. Water on Earth moves continually through the water cycle of evaporation and transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff, usually reaching the sea. Evaporation and transpiration contribute to the precipitation over land. Water used in the production of a good or service is known as virtual water. Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface. It is vital for all known forms of life. Water is an absolute necessity for our physical lives. Water is also an absolute necessity for our spiritual lives. God has used water as a means of salvation in the Patriarchal Age. Noah lived in a world that was totally given over to sin. It was so bad, that God decided to destroy all of humanity. Genesis 6:5-7 Matthew 24:38 II Peter 2:5 Noah was different. Noah found favor in the eyes of God. Genesis 6:8 Noah was saved by the Grace of God when he believed God and obeyed God by building the Ark. Hebrews 11:7 Noah and his family were saved from the sinful world around them by water. I Peter 3:20-21 God saved Israel from Egyptian captivity by His grace when the Israelites believed and obeyed Him. Hebrews 11:29 God saved Israel from Egyptian captivity by water. Pharaoh went back on his word and chased the Israelites after agreeing to let them go. Exodus 14:5-9 God parted the Red Sea so His people could escape from the Egyptians. Exodus 14:21-25 Psalm 106:9 God destroyed the army of Pharaoh in the Red Sea. Exodus 14:26-28 Psalm 136:15 God saved Israel by water. Exodus 14:29-31 Isaiah 51:10 I Corinthians 10:1-2 God saves those in this present age by His grace who believe Him and obey Him. God uses water as the means of salvation in these last days. Jesus taught that to enter His Kingdom, one has to be born again. How are we born again? John 3:3-5 We are born of water and the Spirit. We are shown how this rebirth occurs in the teaching that the Holy Spirit revealed to the apostles. Acts 2:38 Romans 1:3-4 Jesus commands us to be baptized if we are to be saved. Mark 16:16 That baptism is shown by an example in Acts to be immersion in water. Acts 8:36-39 We must have our sins washed away to be saved. When we call on the name of the Lord, we will be saved. Romans 10:13 How do we have our sins washed away? How do we call on the name of the Lord? It's not by words only. Matthew 7:21-23 So how do we have our sins washed away? How call on the name of the Lord if it's not verbal? Acts 22:16 Now we hear people all the time saying that if we have to do anything to be saved, we are trying to earn salvation. Jesus says that's not true. Luke 17:10 When we do what He said to do to be saved, we aren't earning anything, we are simply unworthy servants doing what our Master expects. He also showed us that the work done when we are baptized is not done by us at all. Colossians 2:11-13 Titus 3:4-7 So have you been saved? We are not saved by baptism alone any more than we are saved by grace alone or faith alone. James 2:24 We are saved by grace when we believe. John 8:24 Ephesians 2:8-9 We are saved by His grace when we obey. Hebrews 5:9 We are commanded to repent of our sins. Luke 13:3 II Corinthians 7:10 We are told that we must confess our faith in Him publicly. Luke 12:8-9 Romans 10:9-10 We are told we must be baptized, as we have seen in this lesson. Then we must live faithfully obedient lives until we die. Revelation 2:10 I John 1:5-7 We don't have to live perfect lives, He lived a perfect life for us. We don't have to obey perfectly, He obeyed perfectly for us. We must strive to live as faithfully and as obedient as we possibly can. We will sin. When we do, we repent and pray to God, asking Him to forgive us. Acts 8:22 I John 1:8-10 Revelation 7:13-14 Are you saved? Have you been washed in the Blood of Jesus? Have you believed, repented, confessed, and been baptized? If not, you have not been saved.
