  1. Back in 1982, my sophomore year, we played Liberty Eylau which at the time were much better than we were. We ran the 4 Corner Stall as our offense the whole game just to keep the ball away. We still lost.
  2. For me, the jury is still out on Baxter. Certainly the potential is there and there are flashes where he runs hard. He did get better with his determination as the year went on but I am a bit concerned with his overall "toughness". I am not sure what his pain management level is. I noticed during the UW game, when he pulled up lame late in the game on the far sideline, one of the coaches was really into his ear as they walked back across the field. From the looks of the expression from the coach he was telling Baxter to "suck it up".
  3. The women completely dominated Nebraska particularly after the β€œred card” event. The Nebraska coach saw it and really did not even try to stop it. He knew that he was beat after the first set.
  4. Another pretty good running back, Eric Dickerson, wore specs.
  5. SIAP. Is 3 Tate for Gilmer getting any looks from any colleges?
  6. Mart has been defeated since late in the 2Q. Their body language speaks volumes. Glad you mentioned the injury to the Mart QB, otherwise it would be a very β€œmeh” performance. Mart needs to get the edges as their interior run game is suffering.
  7. I will be there Thursday through Saturday. I actually cut a business trip short to Tucson, Arizona to be back in time for Thursday’s games. I typically fly in and out of Shreveport airport but elected to fly in and out of DFW for this trip so I can just stay in Dallas upon my arrival. I am on the flight now from Tucson.
  8. Yes, that is true as they do a state wide seeding. Plus multiple levels of play. It is a β€œsmall” enough state that travel is not that big of a detriment. At least Louisiana tries to ensure that the best teams make it to state without canceling each other out in the early rounds.
  9. Try explaining the different classes sizes and then D1 and D2 to people from out of state. I get a lot of blank stares. Going back to the early to mid 80s Hallsville was consistent in baseball with 20 plus win seasons.
  10. Need to add Hallsville to the strong baseball list. Can be left off for all other boys sports for the most part with the occasional uprising. The girls volleyball and softball will remain top notch in the district.
  11. This is a myopic take on this game. If the quality of the game is in question then the vast majority of football played would fall into this category as there are countless high schools, junior high, semi-pro, etc. that play β€œbad” football. This game is not just for our entertainment. The guys that are playing in this game probably understand their lot in life is that they will not be playing in the NFL. For the most part they have made a commitment to serve our nation and this is their shining moment to be recognized by the sport. I certainly would not tell any of them that their game is a β€œtime waste” as I value my health.
  12. Attending an Army/Navy game is on my Bucket List. I will be a neutral observer. I have family members that served in both branches. Also have a buddy that played basketball for West Point and another friend that played football for Navy.
  13. Puleeze! Give me a break. What about the ref intentionally bumped into Strong only to throw a flag against Strong? What about the Oklahoma State game(s)? Trust me, there are more.
  14. Texas also won two games with a statue of a second string QB who most likely will transfer as it is known that Arch will move into the second spot for now.
  15. You should know not to believe any other source in the world when it comes to what really happens at A&M. Nevermind TexAgs, Twitter, Sports Illustrated, Barstool, ESPN, or any other national media. The real inside about the Aggies can only be found on the regional super site, Smoaky, anchored by a couple Aggie experts that surprisingly have the real inside scoop.
  16. It is also not always the quantity of the penalties but also "when" the penalties are called. Some are more crucial than others. There have also been some horrible spots as well.
  17. Chip Kelly went to the NFL. Perhaps being a NFL coach (1 of 32) is a bit more prestigious than being a HC in college. Willie Taggart only lasted one year, with not a great record and some controversy, before leaving Oregon for FSU. Taggart was also from Florida. Doubtful that Oregon tried too hard to keep him. He was only there one year. Mario Cristobal played for The U. So there should be no surprise for him to go back to his alma mater. Lanning does not appear to have any "ties" to another school, NFL or region. So maybe aggy can money whip him to come to their school. But to say that Oregon did not pony up for the other three aforementioned coaches is a bit misleading as there were other factors in play as I duly noted.
  18. If anything, I am a realist. Certainly not a pessimist. Texas is 1-1 against ranked teams. There are other highly ranked teams that can say the same. Some highly ranked team(s) have lost to unranked teams too. Being a UT-Austin alum I have seen the highs and the lows. I am at an age now where I prefer to focus on the positives without being a sunshine pumper.
  19. For the naysayers on here concerning Murphy I am not sure what you expected. He is second string for a reason. He was playing in his first meaningful game in front of ~100K people on national television. He has probably heard and read all of the concerns from the talking heads on TV and the keyboard warriors on various forums. Starting out you could tell that he was trying to do too much just to prove everyone wrong. This was evident with his demonstrative clapping upon taking the field for the first time. Calling for Arch already is way premature. The Mannings want him to red-shirt for a reason. Do you not believe that a family that has 3 NFL QBs know a thing or two about Arch and why they want him to red-shirt. The kid came from a small Louisiana school. Most likely there were more fans in the stands today at the game than the cummulative amount of fans that Arch has played in front of his whole career. Not to mention television and a conference game with most everyone playing being older than him, especially the BYU players. Calling for the next QB in line already sounds a lot like the school to the east. Murphy played as expected. Texas won the game handily despite leaving points on the field by going for it twice on fourth and goal and coming away with nothing. That is on Sark and not a reflection on Murphy. Hopefully, with this game under his belt, Murphy will build upon this experience and will become better. And, the transitive property does not apply in football (sports). At this level every game needs to be taken in isolation. As long as Sark realizes that some of his questionable playcalling will not work against certain teams at certain times and the defense continues to come up with timely turnovers the team will be OK. I would like to think that Sark "knows" that he is trying some of these things against inferior teams and it would not be something that he would do at critical times. And do not forget that Texas has one of, if not the best RBs in college. Plus the RBs are deep and with some exceptional receivers. Texas is 7-1 with a strong chance to win the conference and on to the CFPs. Some of you would complain if you were hung with a new rope.
  20. I am sure that there were clear understandings between Sark and the Manning family prior to Arch signing on the dotted line to attend UT, up to, and including all of the β€œwhat if” moments. Manning comes into college football at a different level (economically/need to play now/expected bread winner, etc.) than many other prospects. Sark’s reputation of a β€œQB whisperer” is at stake with how Manning is being handled. And, I would bet that he is getting β€œadvice” from the Manning clan.
