  1. I get that. However, I am not going to buy a product because of some 18 year old is endorsing it. Of course there will be those that will. Also gone are the days where kids run down to the field in hopes of getting their favorite player's autograph after the game/practice. I suspect that if they do they will have to have a PayPal or Venmo account handy on their phone to ensure that the player gets his money.
  2. I haven't followed all of this NIL stuff that closely for multiple reasons. One reason is that I have a hard time about offering a large amount of money to kids which have largely yet to prove themselves in their chosen field of work. The cost of supporting these deals will ultimately fall back on us fans (consumers). Should they receive a "salary"? Sure, but it should be a flat consistent rate across the board. The whole issue of collegiate athletes getting paid has been around forever. In fact, recently on TCM, there was a movie about it. Saturday's Hero was released in 1937 starring Van Heflin with Marian Marsh. Heflin is a college football star that is scalping his tickets to get by because it is hard to make ends meet as a collegiate athlete. He is caught doing this and loses his position on the team. He confronts the college president about this because the schools, collectively, are making $40 million per year on football and the athletes are getting "nothing" for the money that they are bringing in for the schools. Sound familiar? The movie was a fun watch despite the plot gaps and the unbelievability of some of it which was typical of the day. Plus it was enjoyable watching old football clips.
  3. I am legitimately trying to think of recent CFB players that have nicknames (that stuck and were referred to commonly). The only two that I can think of is Manziel and Kenny. Now there have been stud players recently that are identified by just either their first or last name but cannot think of a nicknamed one. Once someone mentions one then I will have better recall. But for now I am drawing a blank. Name some and help me out.
  4. Highlights are highlights for any players. They are not going to show their less stellar moments. So that may be the difference. Perhaps Manning, due to his pedigree and training, is a more cerebral player and makes less mistakes?
  5. You have to know that Texas and OU both have a targets on their chest coming into the SEC. There is no way that the SEC schools do not want to show the newcomers exactly what SEC football is like as compared to the B12. Whether Texas has been competitive or not in the lifetime of the actual players they are still "Texas" and OU is still "OU". And it is not "caring" about winning one game or another or even a rivalry. No one wants to lose any game. The SEC programs will be out to make a statement against the newcomers and what they bring to the table.
  6. Immortal13 posts on Surlyhorns. Haven’t seen him here in forever.
  7. Generally speaking I would much rather have Texans moving to California than the other way around.
  8. I love to play basketball. I actually play full court 4 days a week. 2 of those days I play with a group that play more “NBA” style. I only play with them primarily for the exercise but it does allow me to get really physical sometimes if I need to release some stress. Otherwise I enjoy playing with the more traditional game the other two days.
  9. NFL, MLB, and just about any college sport (men or women) is preferred watching by me over the NBA.
  10. Should’ve walked the next batter once MSU had a man on second. Keeps the double play alive and puts pressure on the hitter as he will have “keeping out of a double play” on his mind.
  11. Horns win against Virginia. Will play later on “today” against Mississippi State. Go Horns Go!!
  12. This kind of reminds me of the Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue". I guess you have to grow up being tough since I am sure that some kids get picked on by their name. However, there are a lot of "different" names out there today so it may not be such an issue anymore. But still...
  13. I was watching KTBS News out of Shreveport last fall during football season and they interviewed De'Coldest as he is a local player to their viewing audience. I had to rewind the broadcast to make sure that I was hearing and reading his name correctly. It is....well, never mind.
  14. Glad that I am not the only one that does not know!
  15. The Horns are headed back to Omaha for the 37th time. Bring back number 7 please. Hook'em.
  16. Looks like the Hallsville boys will have a chance to exact some revenge for the Hallsville girl's team as Barbers Hill won their semi game too.
  17. Interesting note: Barbers Hill and Hallsville also had their softball teams repped at State too. The Barbers Hill girls beat Hallsville and went on to win state. Hopefully the Hallsville boys will win and then potentially have a bit of a revenge game for the Ladycats should Barbers Hill win their game as well. A nice setup for a Championship game.
  18. Hallsville girl’s softball falls to Barbers Hill in the State Tournament in Austin. Congratulations on another fine season. Such consistency. The Hallsville Bobcats Baseball team has punched their ticket to State as well. Like the softball team, what other program in ET would you want to play for?
  19. There have been a lot transferring to USC including Ingram from Texas/Carthage. Interested in seeing how they all do.
