  1. Yes, this debate gets brought up 2 or 3 times a year; could the '83 Tigers beat the '85 Yates team? Could they beat one of the great Longview teams? Etc. etc. Debaters try to take what offenses and defenses that were run then versus what is done now and compare. Passing is done much more so now than then. Could they defend the pass consistently? My belief is if you put that same group of guys together today, with the current trends, they would still dominate. They would adapt both offensively and defensively. For those that say, "but they were 3A and did not have the depth so they could not beat a 5A school. Do the math and either ratio 3A up or 5A down and consider the talent per capita. Played against them in '82 and watched them play in '83. Hands down the greatest team.
  2. There is no doubt that Chapel Hill has been blessed with great athletes the last couple of years. The question is, have the incredible athletes always been there? Since Chapel Hills' last State Championship (under Meeks) they had a losing record until Sitton came along to bring them their latest Championship. So is it great coaching? Or, good coaching with exceptional athletes? I would like to think that the athletes have always been there and Sitton is, as every great coach should, getting the most out of each person.
  3. I agree with your statement. But what percentage of the student body actually takes advantage of it and gets a quality education? Based upon the TEA stats, which are measurables, both Tatum and Hallsville has a "high quality" education system.
  4. I am not saying that you cannot get a quality education from Longview because there are many graduates that go on after high school and excel in college and in the workforce. However, according to the TEA the Longview School System does not have the same "quality" ratings as it's neighboring districts. If, for instance, someone is looking to relocate to the Longview area and asked about the various school districts and their performances what would you say? Would you really want to say, per your above statement, that Longview performs poorly because of its diversity? Your argument seems to be excusing diversity. The State of Texas recently dropped the Top 10% ruling for automatic admission to any State funded university (UT, A&M, etc.) to the Top 7%. The reason for this? To create more diversity on the university campuses. Do you believe that consolidating either PT or Spring Hill would balance the diversity scale?
  5. False you say? According to the TEA: Tatum 2009, "Recognized" LGV 2009, "Acceptable" Tatum 2010, "Recognized" LGV 2010, "Unacceptable" Tatum 2011, "Recognized" LGV 2011, "Acceptable" 3-0 Tatum By the way, Hallsville in the same period went, Recognized, Exemplary, Recognized. Interpret it how you want but your "false" statement is debateable.
  6. I was being sarcastic towards the Longview people complaining about Hallsville getting some of Longview people due to proximity. How do you type in sarcastic tone?
  7. Hallsville opened their borders this year and are now accepting transfers that meet the criteria. Hallsville has done very well with that. Thank you.
  8. Hallsville gives money away due to the Robin Hood plan. The "going broke" is due to poor money management of the previous administration that, of which, has been addressed. Hallsville is anchored with a good business tax base.
  9. I expect to hear Marshall, Harleton, and Tatum complaining next since Hallsville borders their territory too.
  10. Hallsville's school district is 188 square miles. How far east do you think Longview goes? Exactly what area are you wanting to claim? Please.
  11. You are kidding, right? You need a geography lesson.
  12. District 14-4A Meet begins today (Wednesday) in Hallsville. Field events in the morning with running prelims beginning at 3:00pm. The meet concludes Thursday with the field events in the AM and the running events in the PM.
  13. Simple. An unspoken prayer request.
  14. Hicks is the two-time defending 4A champ. Brock placed somewhere in the top 5 at State last year.
  15. True. But as I noticed, by working security, he and his group were the most blatantly obvious about it.
  16. Really? You will get some East Texans and Daingerfield fans that will argue that point with you 'til death.
  17. I would have to move Jacksonville above JT in your 16-4A listing. I understand why JT is listed as a tough place to play because historically they are good. Even when Jacksonville is not very good it is still difficult to win in the Tomato Bowl. Things seem to happen there.
  18. In my opinion, regarding Hallsville's situation, I would say the most difficult place to win is in Marshall. This is based upon the regularity of playing Marshall and coming up short a few times. Following Marshall I would place it with Texas High and then Sulphur Springs. The last two times that Hallsville played at these fields both games were close and winnable for Hallsville.
  19. 45 years young. 1984 graduate of Hallsville High 1988 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Continue to support both The Hallsville Bobcats and The University of Texas Longhorns religiously!
  20. l Hopefully the game last night was not the peak of this kids achievements but with the family support that was exhibited there is a very real chance that it was. Hopefully whoever does ultimately sign him will give him the support and encouragement that he needs. Too bad he cannot get it from home.
  21. I watched a bit of the Under Amour game tonight. The verbal commitment segments are always interesting but none moreso than one tonight. Landon Collins, the number 1 safety in the nation from Louisiana, verbally committed to Alabama much to the noticeable dismay of his mother. She was not shy about his apparent poor decision as she flat out said that LSU was her preferred choice for him and even waved some LSU colors. As a parent you need to support your child. You may not agree with the choice he made but you should still be happy that he is having a chance to at least make that decision. Personally I would be thrilled for my child to be playing at that level. She pretty much upstaged him. I am sure that he is somewhat embarassed by his families reaction. Classless act?
  22. I guess you had to be there. I tend to lean toward the "seeing is believing" theory. Afterall, a picture is worth a 1000 words.
  23. According to the commentators on TV today a large portion of the players for Penn State did not even want to go to the bowl game.
