  1. Yes, it is homecoming. Eagle 8, yes playing larger schools would be ideal but as Catmaniac said it is difficult to do so. On paper going into it Hallsville had PG (deep playoff team last year) and Lindale (4A last year and playoff team). If you saw the numbers suited up for Lindale's JV and Varsity then you would notice how close in size the schools are. Having not seen CH play I do not know how they play other than they beat Carthage which beat Lindale which we beat. Can we put another "lights out" performance for the 3rd game? No one has come close to stopping us yet. One thing about the blow out wins is that we have played at least to the third team in both games. We rotate a lot in so the experience is being gained. Hallsville starts two sophomores on defense with there being 5 or 6 sophs on varsity and they are all seeing playing time. Thus, the depth is being developed. By the time district rolls around we will be OK. Again, the district that Hallsville is in is going to be tough no doubt about it. It always is. However, some of our district foes are not faring too well. The potential is there for Hallsville to make some noise this year in district. We shall see. Hallsville wins against CH. Score??? I thought that Lindale would have played us closer.
  2. I am going to reference some of my previous posts. Based on what I saw last week between Lindale and Carthage I thought the game would be closer. Carthage's loss tonight perhaps gave me a tainted view last week. Right now the offense is clicking with Hallsville with both the run and pass. Offensive team speed is good. Cochran is a treat to watch. He continuously dominates the DL with his blocking and dutifully picks up his opponent after each wipe out block. One of the most impressive thing I saw tonight was his downfield blocking on the reverse that went for the long touchdown for Lacy. Cochran was leading the way 60+ yards down the field. The QB is making excellent choices with the ball. Quantrell Johnson is electrifying with his running and pass catching. He is a highlight reel so far. As predicted our speed on offense was too much for Lindale. Our DL was too athletic for the OL of Lindale. Lindale's QB is going to feel this game for a while. Lindale's receivers did not seem to want to catch the ball downfield. They did well on the screens; I do not think we challenged them enough with those plays. Hallsville's D will hit you hard and are swarming to the ball. The RB (#5) is a good RB and is very important to their offense. I have to give the special teams to Lindale tonight because of their success with the onside kicks. Hallsville's punters and kickers gave their usual excellent performance. Not sure what the issue was between the coaches at the end of the game though I have an idea. Was surprised to see the Lindale starters remaining in the game to the very end with the game completely out of hand. Too big of risk of injury. Of course Hallsville brought their starters back out there a time or two late in the game to prove a point or two as well. Again running a risk of injury. Surprised at the margin of victory. Simply put Hallsville had more athletes tonight.
  3. I-20 to Hwy 69 in Lindale. North on 69 to FM 16. Take a left on 16 and go half a mile or so to Stadium Drive which will be on the right. The visitors side is now on the South side of the stadium. They switched sides a couple of years ago during the renovation of the stadium. I will be there.
  4. Lindale 27 Hallsville 14 First posession of the game Hallsville was stopped at Lindale's one yard line. Lindale then went 99 yards. Hallsville also had a snap get over the QB's head and was recovered in the end zone for a Lindale TD. Last score was a safety for Lindale.
  5. I believe that we are in for a very good game. With Hallsville having an open week last week I took the opportunity to go see the Carthage and Lindale game. What a treat; a fantastic game. Lindale had a difficult time stopping the running game of Carthage. Hallsville's RB is much quicker and elusive than the Carthage RB and can be a punishing runner. Lindale has some scrappy runners (number 5?) but their passing game overshadows their run game. Advantage Hallsville in the run game. Hallsville's OL and DL will match up well with Lindale's. Hallsville may have a size advantage as well. Will probably give the line edge to Hallsville because of athlecticism and Cochran. Plus Pack is relentless on D. I will have to give the passing game to Lindale. Hallsville has the potential too (Trey Carter, TE, has excellent hands) but for now Lindale. This opinion could change if Hallsville puts a lot a pressure on the QB to take some of the load off of the DB's. Lindale's DB's gave up big plays as well both against the run and the pass against Carthage. Special teams: Hallsville all the way. Lindale gave Carthage all they wanted last week. Carthage's stud LB (Texas recruit) left the game I believe in the first half and did not return. That probably had some affect on Lindale's success a bit. On paper Hallsville has an edge in my opinion. However, until the game is played no one knows. Should be a good game.
  6. Wow, and I thought that I had seen a lot. When I was a student at UT-Austin during the mid-to-late 80's I worked security at the Frank Erwin Center as a side job. I saw everything from Disney On Ice to Mel Torme to Eddie Murphy to the Oak Ridge Boys to U2 to Van Halen and everything in between. This was before concerts became real "theatrical". Pink Floyd did have a laser show and some pyrotechnics. Def Leppard was in the round. The Cars had good music but the show was boring. U2 was probably the best overall with their Joshua Tree Tour. I had a buddy that worked there also that was in a managerial position so I was usually in front of the stage for assignment. Cool gig.
  7. PG had a few players in street clothes on the sideline. Not sure if any of them were "impact" players or not though number 42 looked like a player. Hallsville had 1 defensive starter not available due to injury and 1 offensive player that did not play; not sure of any others. Not saying that Hallsville will win district or make the playoffs but this team has the talent to do so. A lot of football to play.
  8. 52-0 Hallsville Hallsville will be OK. Josh Cochran is a monster. Quantrel Johnson looked great carrying the ball and made a fantastic catch for a score. Denton looked good in making decisions throwing the ball. Hallsville caused a lot of turnovers. Hallsville has 5 or 6 sophomores playing on varsity. At least 2 started on defense and 1 started on offense (i believe). All saw considerable playing time and contributed in a big way. This should be our best team in the last 2 to 3 years, if not longer.
  9. Thanks for the directions. I got there without any drama last night coming in on 59. You do have to pay attention or you will end up somewhere else though. Nice stadium and clean restrooms (guys do not always notice that but my wife commented positively on the restrooms!).
  10. Not knocking what degree you get but I would be careful on what college I would choose to get a degree from since education cost does vary. It is all about your return on your investment. Does a teaching degree from LeTourneau University (an expensive school) carry more weight than a teaching degree from SFA (public school)? Probably not, so I would elect to go to the less expensive school. Does a business degree from UT-Austin carry more weight than a business degree from UT-Tyler? Probably so, thus I would go to the more expensive school. Of course not all schools offer the same degrees either, which was my case (architecture). So that may dictate the cost of education. Then there is just personal preference. Believe me, I have done the math too and wondered the same thing!!
  11. It is so hard to get into UT now that if you do not go right out of high school, if you are accepted, then your chances of getting in at a later date are greatly reduced. However, if you go to another UT school, and make a certain GPA in selected classes, then you get an automatic admission to UT-Austin. The top 10% rule is going away, or at least being changed to the top 7 or 8% next year for auto admission, in order to get more diversity (I won't elaborate on this touchy subject but could I ever!) on college campuses. If you want to go to another school then this may or may not be an issue. My parents showed me my tuition bill from UT-Austin back from the mid 80's. It is a quarter of what I am currently spending on my daughter to attend there.
  12. Another racket to contend with are the textbooks. She has spent close to $600 for books for the 4 classes that she is taking. Add another $175 for parking, $150 for internet access, and approx. $10,000 for food and dorm (2 semesters for each value). You are looking at $20K to $24K per year with all expenses and incidentals. Hits the pocketbook hard!
  13. My daughter is a freshman at UT-Austin. I just paid for her fall tuition; she is taking 12 hours and it cost me $4551.00.
  14. I am 5'11" this year. I was 5'11" last year too. :w00t: Eventually you stop growing though I am not L Anthony.
  15. They have a standing show in Las Vegas. They are awesome. I have seen them 4 or 5 times out there. The music is great. Bought their music CD also. The drums are fantastic. My son works out to it. The way that they end the show with the audience participation is so cool. I am not sure how their traveling shows operate so I will not ruin the ending for you.
  16. Having a daughter headed off to UT-Austin tomorrow I can relate to some of these. She is however, quite knowledgeable about a lot of different things or at least aware of things. I travel around the world on business so I keep up with a lot of different things for conversation so as a result of that my daughter is exposed to the world news and trivia.
  17. Ahh, I was wondering when Randy's name was going to come up regarding stud athletes eventhough he graduated a lot more than 10 years ago.
  18. I leave for China this Sunday on a business trip for 2 weeks. I hope everything holds off until I get back home!
  19. I fly in and out of DFW at least once a month and have witnessed this several times. The first time that I saw it it brought tears to my eyes. Even to this day it still puts a lump in my throat we I see it again or even think about it. They come into and out of Terminal B on a charted flight directly from overseas so their first/last contact with the US is DFW. When the plane is approaching the terminal the DFW fire trucks are on the tarmac spraying water on it as a "welcome home". What a memory. And yes, thank a soldier.
  20. Brent from Tyler. Dennis Miller gets paid for his obscure fact recall. It seems to be Brent's passion. Better World War II movies: The ones made during WWII? or Current release movies/series?
  21. This is one thing that I have always wanted to do but just seem to never get around to it. There are a couple of places I know off of the beaten path that I would like to check out. Have you had much luck?
  22. My wife and I both teared up during Toy Story 3. Our oldest child, daughter, just graduated from high school and is headed to UT-Austin this fall. Just prior to seeing the movie we went through the "cleaning out" process in her room. This movie really hits home.
  23. After number 1 there is no particular order. 1. Jesus, for obvious reasons. 2. Lewis and Clark (I know that they are two people but they come as one), what it was like being the "first" to see alot of the USA. 3. Crazy Horse, to get the Native American's perspective. 4. Leonardo da Vinci, who is Mona Lisa and what else did he come up with that we do not know about? Can they each bring a friend?
  24. Louis Armstrong; I love Big band music. Which is tougher? When you left home for college? or Having your oldest leave for college?
