  1. My kids and I both graduated from the same high school.  1984 for me and 2010 for the daughter and 2013 for the son.  My daughter was on the dance team and my son played football.  I went to some of their pep rallies and they were absolutely horrible in comparison to "back in the day".  There was a lack of community and school spirit.  And yes, I am being objective in my opinion and not just the old man yelling at clouds.

Texas played some of their best baseball this weekend. They controlled all 3 games and left no doubt.

I will be interested to see how LBJ looks in game 2 of the supers. I have to wonder if having throw 129 in the regionals has any ill effects on him moving forward.

Cliff Gustafson laughs at this comment.

Pretty sure he spent some time in Carthage as a youngster.  I worked with his Dad,a Carthage grad, and they lived here then.  Wish he was here, but happy as heck to see him in the green and gold.  Hope they get that title this season.  I will be cheering them on every game.

I am assuming he is related to Roscoe Tatum? IIRC he ran track at TCU back in the mid-80s.

I grew up near the Kenworth and Peterbuilt dealerships on the loop near I-20 in East Longview. We would regularly ride our bikes to Burgers and Fries and Alfies Fish and Chips on 80. Once rode to my uncle’s house near Cavendar’s off the loop in Pine Tree. We were all in the 6th through 8th grades.

Also spent a lot of times riding down Country Club Road and Maple Springs Road back towards Hallsville.

Parents never knew or if they did they did not care.

Fair enough. Never played basketball, but I do know trash talk is far more part of that culture than Football or Baseball.

I play a lot basketball during the lunch hour at a local gym. Right after Covid I played with a different group for a couple of months. They talked trash a lot and some took it personal. Being the older guy there I was constantly having to be bossy with them telling them to keep it fun. They take their ball serious. I told them that if they were any good then they would not be playing lunch ball with an old man that they need to just chill a bit. It became a chore to play with them. Their group finally broke up allowing for the group that I have always played with to get back in gear.

Crazy stat: Miami did not make a single 3ptr during the comeback.

Honestly just thinking back on it I don't remember them attempting one during the comeback.

If I recall correctly all of Miami’s points in the last 5 minutes or so all came from FTs.

Texas beats A&M 5-2 to win their 14th straight. And the game wasn't even as close as that.

I didn't realize that it had been since 2011 since they had won here.

Yep, I think it is like a total of 4 games in that span.

Not true about the trajectory changing during the Reyes years. I remember them playing kids on one side of the ball, and also having a full J.V. and 2 ninth grade teams. All this changed with Allman. The new coach must be a good recruiter at the Jr. High. He and his coordinators must be there every day to sell their program to the Jr. High players. You can only build from the ground up. This will be a huge challenge.

    Screen name checks out.

You’re only down like that in college. In the nfl you have to be touched down. As for why it always happens. The officials have some lee way on whether or not the player who laid the hit when the other player is down had time to stop their momentum or at least ease up and try their best to avoid the hit. It’s not easy to stop your body moving full speed in split seconds depending on what’s happening around you and the officials know that so there is a lot of judgement calls on that rule.

This does not apply to QBs getting hit these days with the "targeting" rule.  If you look at a QB wrong you will get penalized.

I would agree with you 30 years ago on Nebraska, but not today. In my opinion, they lost their ability to be a “blue blood” when they left the Big 12. As long as they were playing Texas schools they had a foothold in Texas recruits. Today they have the same clout with Texas high school players as Wisconsin and Purdue. The same can be said of Colorado and Missouri. Rule and Sanders may have some initial success due to name recognition, but not sure that can be sustained.

Texas is a “blue blood” based on history and current financial success. Texas is a school you love or hate no matter where in the country you live. By the way A&M is climbing the blue blood ladder primarily due to financial prowess of its former students.

I agree with most of this.

I think you’re overestimating what the college football world thinks of Arch… I’ve seen many say he’s overrated.

Look guys are you capable of being realistic even for a second? Are you capable of living in a world where arch can be overrated right now and still turn out to be a solid player for you guys? My comments are simply that he’s ranked like one of the best QBs of all time, and really the only real argument for it is “look at his family tree.” His actual on the field play is not one of the best ever and if you think that based on his high school career you’re lying to yourself. His measurables and arm talent are good but so are many others with better stats and accomplishments to this point in their careers. I just don’t understand why you guys can’t put your bias against me aside and see he’s overrated. And before anyone wants to make comments about it’s my bias that’s the problem, I’ve been saying he’s overrated since the initial ranking of him before Texas was even a school people thought was in the running.

I am not saying that he will be the next savior. What I am saying is that he is highly ranked as one of the highest ever by people that do that for a living. Throw in his name as part of the factor if you like.

I do not follow recruiting, as I have historically stated on this site, because until a football player of any star status has proven themselves they are all only relying on potential.

I am only calling to attention your observations that goes against the general consensus of his ranking, hence his “greatness”.

Every program Have stars that flameout.

Hall has had a tumultuous college career, and that includes a transfer from Alabama following a suspension for a violation of team rules, and then once he got to Texas, he scrubbed all mentions of the Longhorns on social media.

Hall also was arrested at Texas for criminal mischief, and also suspended by coach Steve Sarkisian.

Hall played in 3 games for the Longhorns in 2022, and made 1 catch for 7 yards.

Well aware of this.  He has spurned two big-name programs.  Not sure if another big-name program will give him another go, hence the lesser programs comment.

He had a hard time practicing in Tuscaloosa. I would imagine he had the same problem in Austin.

Lesser programs will take a chance on him because of his talent and, where they can, will look the other way as needed. Rinse and repeat.

Ah, well, I wasn’t overzealous, I promise, haha!

I was able to speak to Tepper and RR (and he is a nice man).  I do understand the desire for a secure location and I’d hope high school football fans in attendance would act appropriately and treat the Bally folks well, but I guess there’s always an idiot wherever you go.

Yep. Half the people in the world are stupid. The other half are questionable at best!

  15. Was able to attend in person and catch the last 9 games. Had a great time. Met some interesting people and had good discussions. A bit disappointed in the lopsidedness of most of the games. Incredible talent out there that is for sure. Since I had no emotional or physical connection with any team it was enjoyable to just sit and watch and admire the skill of the players and the emotions shown. Also really enjoyed observing the different fan bases and the passion for the sport and their teams. Looking forward to doing it all over again next year.
