  1. Only thing that'll make me happy will be if Marshall isn't on the schedule next year. Am guessing we'll end up with Lufkin, Marshall and Tyler though. King gonna King.
  2. Debacle is an understatement.
  3. I mean come on now. King is a lot of things, but he isn't scared to schedule hard games in preseason. He has been burned in the past, many times, when trying to set up tougher non-district schedules. And yes, he has used Lufkin/Tyler/Marshall has as crutch but it has been incredibly difficult to get games scheduled. I think you really believe that King can just call up anyone and schedule whomever he likes. It has to be a two way street. Would a non-district series with Aledo be a blast? Of course. We'd all love it. The Marshall thing is not entirely in his hands, and I think we should all just recognize that. We all want it to end. That's not even a question. Finally Marshall fans are seeing that too and have started to get on the end the series train. But there's still a majority of people that believe that series should never end, no matter what. And those that are in leadership are the ones making that decision. It brings in a ton of money (way less than ever before I'd venture to say, however), it's a quick/easy trip. Personally I say just let it become a scrimmage. That's basically what it is now, except just on the record. But I fully believe it is not in King's hands to end that series.
  4. Just wanted to restate, I'm never (well I won't say never, cause you know a time will come) going to be one to push King to leave. Everything that's been said on this thread about him and how other programs would love for our success, and how he is the best coach that Longview has ever had...are true. I've talked about it on the 6A board, I've talked about it in person. This year, to me, just felt completely off from the get go. The band Friday night, you could barely hear at all. The cheerleaders, literally did not move and cheer once. I don't even know why they're out there to be brutally honest. The penalties. My god. The penalties. It's been like this since the 2018 season. I don't know how you fix it but King's ability to coach an O line, sure is there...but you just continue to allow these kids to jump off with no punishment. I don't get it. The play calling...every year. Conservative when it matters most. Not trusting in the guy that led you there to take you home. Whether it was his own son in his sophomore year. Whether it was even Bivins back in the day. Whether it was Allen his senior year. Tutt in second halves. It's just, just mind boggling some of the decision making that goes on. Overall though, just the lulls in play through out the year showed us our true side. It looked like they turned a corner come playoff time, but end of day, Tatum showed just how much he meant to this team. King, again, greatest coach we've had had. More than doubled every other coach in Lobo history in playoff wins. His achievements though will always be marred by his defeats. Longview has 5 games in the playoffs where they've blown 10+ point leads, all of them under King's watch. The only one that we got lucky in to pull out was Lufkin 2017. This was the largest playoff comeback against Longview since 2010. It's going to hurt people. The Guyer game is still talked about, especially being on kick away from going to State. This one isn't going away anytime soon. Especially with how resounding of a win that we had at their own stadium, with or without Tatum.
  5. A tougher non district schedule is exactly what Longview fans have been begging for. How is playing Marshall doing anything for us right? How has beating Tyler Legacy 51-15 on average the last 8 years helped us? Those games against Bryant and Denton Ryan, even getting beat down by Temple, were more memorable than almost any moment we've had against those two teams in the last 20+ years. The only memorable thing from the Marshall series was blowing that one in 2015 but passing the ball every second instead of running it when the Mavs literally couldn't stop us that night on the ground. Going to 6A will be tougher just on depth overall, but it won't be any tougher than we've already been playing most years. We're two years removed from playing Highland Park for god sakes on district. It's pretty evident our district in 5A the last two years is been one of the best, if not the best depth wise, in 5A Division I as a whole. Nothing beats those first two years in 5A D1 back in 2020 and 2021 with Highland Park, Denton Ryan, Lancaster and College Station all in the same region as us. Especially with DeSoto potentially dropping. End of the day, we've lost in the third round 3 of the last 4 years. Add in the 5th year, and we've lost in the Area Round, lost in the third round 3 years, and blew the best chance for a state title that we'll have for a couple years in the other year, after holding two score lead. 10 of the last 14 seasons have ended in the third round. Yes, some of those names include Austin Westlake and Denton Ryan. But I mean we're not far off this "2 deep and done type thing," already in all honesty. The only real difference between now and early 80s/90s is that Longview is consistently (literally every year) in the district championship race, and we haven't missed the post season in 20+ years. In the 80s, we were a threat to win district but we'd still have random off years. 90s, obviously the same thing. Obviously a deep run every couple years would show things off. 75, 86, 96, 97. But overall, we're showing that same pattern. 07, 08, 09, 10 were the exception. 17 and 18 were just beyond special classes. And yes I know I've broken down many scenarios where Longview should've had multiple titles, or at least in the title game. 2010 no brainer, 2011 we were better than that DeKaney team that won it all, 2015 we should've beaten Lake Ridge, 2017 we had Midway beat, 2022 obviously feel like we should've won it. The same pattern in all of our playoff losses follows. Outside of Klein Collins, I honestly can't remember a game that King has won that we were truly not favorites to win recently. Bryant maybe, that team was beyond loaded and we were...not. Rockwall in 2017 can be thrown in there. Other than that? I dunno. Like I said previously, he's not going anywhere. He's a great coach, just not elite. Longview has wasted so much talent these last two years, it's beyond frustrating to see all that and nothing to show for it.
  6. I mean, we were beyond talented this year. No one in Lobo land was saying that this is the year. Aledo is the by far #1 in the class this year and everyone knew it. Do we win last night if we have Tatum in the backfield? Probably. But it would just mask our problems before Aledo got ahold of us.
  7. Taylor Tatum, Jalen Hale, two serviceable QBs the last two years. An elite defense with Willie Nelson. The #1 back in our history. The #1 received in our history. And still can't get to the title game. Despite having 2 games of leading by 2 scores.
  8. You know I'm a massive King fan. I said back in the late 2000s and I've continued to say such. That said, we can be at a high level and still have games come down to coaching. We can be at this high level and still question things that are going on. King isn't going anywhere until he's ready to go. So people wanting that are just blind to situation. He is the greatest coach we have ever had, and he is writing his name into the record books with every single victory now on a state level. But King has his faults, and it is known to every single Longview fan that watches every single game. There's a lot of playoff losses that we've had that the team was simply better. Pflugerville, Lake Travis, Denton Ryan. You go up against teams some times that you just do not match up well with. Last night and even last year was not that case. 2022 was as write home of a state championship as you've ever seen in Longview lore. Everyone will say ohhhh it's Aledo. I don't care. We were up two scores and went conservative and got shut out in the second half. Do I think we're a state championship team this year without Tatum? Probably not. Are we a state semi-final team again? Certainly. Longview was dominating Lancaster in that first half, and guess what, we got conservative. Again. 1:00 to go and just like in the 2005 loss to South Garland, they give the ball to a sophomore for no reason. Difference this year, we gave it to a sophomore back that is known for fumbling. All he did last year on the freshman team was fumble. All he has done this year, outside of two runs this year, was fumble. It's just mind boggling some of the decision making that goes on, and the play calling that goes on, when ever single person from the stands can see what needs to happen. First half, unreal play calling. Using the tight ends that we're known for. Trusting in your quarterback to move the ball. Second half, nadda. Let's run right at their biggest defensive guy every single play. This idea that we could return to mediocrity though is just ridiculous to me. Longview was not mediocre before King. Were we making run like we have recently? Obviously not. But we weren't some scrub program. We were making runs here and there, we were in the district title talk nearly every single year. There's always going to be a chance with the next coach that comes in. But the foundation that King and company have set is very very high and has been done very very well. Maybe the next coach takes us to the next level that King has been on the cusp of for the past 20 years. Again, King is a great coach. His level of consistency in 5A/6A football in East Texas is completely unmatched. But he deserves to get criticized just as much as the next guy when the ball is placed at his feet. Is what it is. Onto most likely 6A, where for whatever reason we've had more success overall than we have in 5A.
  9. King did exactly what he did last year. got conservative at half with a double digit point lead and let LT back in it. Horrendous horrendous loss on every level.
  10. Haven't heard any update on tickets at the gate. But if anything, I have a strong feeling we'll get close to filling our side. Will be plenty of room over on the away side.
  11. This year it's more so the guys who are getting hurt as opposed to how many. Really has that 2012 feeling all over again.
  12. He likes spring hill and pine tree volleyball more than Longview football from what I have gathered.
  13. To be fair, we barely see any real coverage of the Lobos in the LNJ outside of a single game article now a days. Ahhh, I miss the days of having Hayden there.
  14. I mean they could only fill an 8th of their home stadium when we faced them there lol
  15. "Big Daddy Media" was the one that got the stream for that Lone Star game. When I was watching on Thursday, I saw they were still out there. I can't remember what game I was going through, but it looked slightly (marginally) better than last year but still...not good at all.
  16. Monday/Tuesday at athletic office, Friday at gates if available. Would imagine Longview will have quite the crowd. No idea if Lancaster will bring any more than they did at home against us....but they certainly did not against Wakeland. It was empty as could be on their side.
  17. Full box score of Longview's 52-14 win over Frisco Reedy: https://www.lobohistory.com/blog/2023/week13boxscore.html
  18. Just initial thoughts... Our defense alone will be a big part of this. No doubt, Lancaster came out in the first game against us throwing everything they had. I see a lot of people saying Lancaster gave us a game for a half in that first one. Reality was the first quarter was truly the only time that game was close. Longview scored 17 straight after being tied at 14 after 1. Two of Lancaster's scores came on unreal, fluke plays...including that insane punt return and just an end of the game unreal 80+ yarder when the game was completely dead and over with. Longview ran at will against the Tigers in the first meeting, and no doubt they're going to try and make us throw the ball more but even without Tatum, I do believe we'll believe able to move the ball on them. Be able to finish drives will once again be the biggest deal. We have to get touchdowns instead of settling for field goals. Another positive is we won't be in freaking Lancaster this go around. No dealing with half turned on scoreboards, not having to deal with refs being pressured by LT's staff the entire dang night with these phantom personal foul calls, not having to deal with dimmed lights the entire night. The only reason that game was even as close as it was was because we were playing at Humphrey Stadium. That sounds incredibly homer of me, and probably is, but anyone that watched that game (and has seen their team play there season) has said the same. Longview just needs to play Lobo football, and we'll be fine despite the obvious injury.
