  1. There are some things about this debate most folks don’t realize, even the administration at the Texas High School Coaches Association: TAPPS is the largest non-public school league Texas and I believe in the top 50 (public and private) nationwide. TAPPS member schools do actually have rules against inducement. Inducement violations can range from scholarship money provided to an athlete, to an athlete who receives promises of playing time or ability to start etc… TAPPS has a Previous Athletic Participation form (similar to UIL). If the THSCA wants to educate their membership, I would start with informing coaches to NOT sign the PAP if they feel the athlete was induced. It confuses me to hear “all private schools recruit” then see form after form signed by UIL school coaches? If the real fear of private schools admission to the UIL is based on inducement, then what a better organization than the mighty UIL to put a stop to it? As a private school coach for 15 years, I can’t say if we would join the UIL. We would like the opportunity to look at the possibility. Just from a travel standpoint alone, it has merits for us. We also have a good working relationship with the schools around us, and I would hope that IF we joined the UIL, they would know they have nothing to fear.
  2. The final two games today were a great testimony for how good girls basketball has become. Very well played, and entertaining.....like I said all day...not sure what was going on at TJC, but it couldn't top what the gals were doing! Congrats to Bullard, Winnsboro, Longview, and Spring Hill!
  3. Brackets for the Cougar-Patriot Tournament hosted by UT-Tyler and Grace are posted here: http://isite1998.web07.intellisite.com/fil...mentBracket.pdf
  4. Nobody should have a problem with a game official admitting he made a mistake, like so many have said mistakes are part of the game, mistakes by players, coaches, and yes officials. What I find so very refreshing is that this official (umpire), before TV cameras admitted his mistake and apologized for it, hard to get mad at a guy brave enough to do that. I have always had a problem that game officials don't do that more often. I would LOVE for more game officials to have the ability to do that. I'm not sure if Jim Joyce was given permission by MLB to even talk. I'm frustrated that more game officials aren't willing to say that there mistakes where just as much a part of the game as the mistakes by players and coaches (hello David Stern). Jim Joyce is a hero in my book!

  8. Actually, Grace Prep only has one loss and could upset Liberty for a three way tie at the top of district I. So the "official" scenario is either Midland, Liberty, or Grace Prep. Who would have ever thought that in the toughest district in division II football, the Cougars would make the playoff! Wow!
  9. Tyler Grace is looking for an 8th grade game on the 17th? Email [email protected] if interested. Thanks!
  10. It seems clear from the different athletic rules per sport that TAPPS has not regulated the amount of games a football player can play in, or even if they can or can't start. Other sports like Baseball and Basketball have clearly defined limits on the number of games played. Attached are the links: http://tapps.net/PDF/Constitution/Athletic...Csection150.pdf (bball) http://tapps.net/PDF/Constitution/Athletic...Bsection146.pdf (baseball) http://tapps.net/PDF/Constitution/Athletic...Esection158.pdf (football) I hope this helps!
  11. Either the parents of Parish were misinformed or pulling your chain. Parish played Grace in 07 and LOST to Grace 48 to 41 with their VARSITY. Trey Morse #3 for Parish had 300 yards rushing that night. They also actually won a playoff game last year over Arlington Grace Prep then lost to Liberty Christian in the second round.
  12. Grace travels to Grapeland tonight to take on the Sandies
  13. Actually, Brook Hill or any private school cannot offer scholarships for athletic purposes. TAPPS who regulates private schools also requires previous participation forms to be signed off by any athletic transfers school, be it public or private. As far as quality of play, the private schools in Texas are getting much better and are attracting some attention from colleges.
  14. You asked for comments otherwise I would have never posted. You asked for who would I take off the team and I replied. The "big fight" will not take place in this thread. Bottom line, Nicole Tucker is one of the five best players in the Tyler paper's coverage area.
