  1. Saw this on Twitter...Details regarding what exactly happened during this time are still unclear. According to Hawkins ISD Superintendent Morris Lyon, "at the end of our home game last night a coach from the opposing team ran onto the field to address our players resulting in a penalty against their team. The incident resulted in an altercation involving both teams." http://www.easttexasmatters.com/news/local-news/hawkins-and-cushing-isd-investigating-altercation-following-friday-evening-football-game/807716811?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter_kfxkfox51
  2. Does this game kick at 7 or 7:30 tonight? Who is on the home side?
  3. I nominate this post for the Annual Smoaky.com Post Of The Year Award!
  4. Official Press Release from TASO The Texas Association of Sports Officials has been aggressively exploring the facts surrounding the incident that occurred in the Texas High vs. Whitehouse game on Saturday, May 7, 2016. The action in question occurred on a solo home run by a Texas High player hit over the left field fence. Unless it is obvious the ball will not be in play, proper officiating mechanics in this situation would be for the 3rd base umpire to sprint to left field to make a ruling on the home run, if necessary. The plate umpire would then move to cover 3rd base, and after watching the batter-runner touch first base, the first base umpire would move to home plate. Although not a TASO approved mechanic, it is not an uncommon practice with some officiating crews for the first base umpire to kick a small amount of dirt on home plate as a signal to the plate umpire that the first base umpire had home plate "covered". The umpire working the game on May 7th unquestionably took this practice to an extreme level that is unacceptable. His reason for raking dirt on home plate was to make the plate umpire work harder in sweeping off the plate, the action was intended as a good-natured jab at the home plate umpire. While this act occurred during a dead ball situation and had absolutely no effect on the outcome of the game, it was inappropriate and did not follow approved mechanics. TASO has determined that none of the umpires in the crew have any ties to either school or city and have never previously umpired a game for either school. The crew was from a neutral chapter that has not served either school this year during the regular season and up to this series. As required by the UIL, both coaches agreed to the crew. Absent new information being brought forward for TASO review, we consider this matter closed.
  5. As stated above, this is a prank that umpires will do to the plate guy so that he has to bend over and brush the plate. Take off the foil hats...there is no conspiracy here Francis! He probably shouldn't do it in a UIL Playoff game, but to call him dirty is wrong!
  6. So winning and advancing towards a championship is the only reason for being on a team? Maybe if you are an elite AAU type player...you only play HS ball for the winning. But most grunt type players play for the love of sport, the sense of belonging, and because without it...school would sorta blow.
  7. Seriously? Your moral compass needs more than what you see in the video for your spine to function properly?
  8. Because most 9th and 10th graders don't start at the varsity level. That big 8th grade class will get the step up when they are 10th graders.
  9. Steel hardens steel and it takes a lot of heat and pressure to make diamonds. This game was all about who you played and CH played the toughest schedule in 3A football. Respectable losses to Whitehouse, Carthage, Gilmer, etc are better measuring sticks than beating Mabank in the 1st half and coasting to victory. Nothing disrespectful to Athens, they played their schedule and won em all, but they might need to bone that pre-district schedule up somewhat to compete beyond Week 11 in the future. CH had to overcome a lot of injuries and get new kids to the next level early on and it paid off. If you think back, CH missed the playoffs last year with a very young team. Graduation was brutal (five kids off the state championship team went on to D-1 colleges), so this win was 21 games in the making. Great job by Sitton and his talented staff getting back to a level of ball that CH has come to expect. It would have been easy for him to ride that state championship into the next big job and leave the cupboard bare for the next guy. This team has a realistic shot at getting another shot at Kilgore in round 3 and you know what they say about beating someone twice! It is the playoffs and this is what makes it so awesome for kids and fans alike! You gotta love TxHsFb!!!
  10. I knew about Mahomes and the recievers at WH, but I had no idea how fast the Burton kid from WH is (#4). He was injured early in the game, but twice outran everyone on CH team and saved two TD's. That looked like "next level" stuff to me. Very impressive!
  11. ^The guy gets a new job and people still want to drag him through the mud. If Audie Jackson is still the coach at Willis, he and Coach King are going to be a great fit. They are very good football coaches and very good men.
  12. Because there isn't a clock and some teams aren't good enough to get 3 outs unless the other team bunts every batter.
  13. Dr. King dreamed of a person being defined by character not color. It is intellectually dishonest for you to play the race card here. The coaches, kids, and community know that AAA is not a community school like Douglass or Cayuga. This is an AAU team and the school is exploiting loopholes within the UIL system to game the system. It may be socially just to "allow" these kids to experience the thrill of victory, but they will find this to be an empty victory within their heart of hearts because they know it isn't right. The reason people on here aren't talking about Madison vs Yates is because neither team is from East Texas...and this is an east Texas sports site by and large. In many ways, Dr. King's dream has been realized...America has a black president and anyone can eat, fly, or golf pretty much anywhere they wish. I'm afraid that if Dr. King were alive today, he might be embarrassed by the lack of character displayed by the very people he died trying to help. His new dreams might be more aligned with those of Bill Cosby or Walter Williams. You should be ashamed for denigrating MLK the way you did!
