  1. Gunter doesnt have as much pure talent as they have had the past three years but they are very well coached and will play very hard. The last three years they lost to the eventual regional champion with one of the winning it. This should be a very tough, hard fought game.
  2. Congrats to Gilley. Where is Phillips going?
  3. Oh I know man it is just such a rarity that one of them actually closes! I have now heard of 3 that have I guess man.
  4. Didnt Hearne also have Wal-Mart close as well? I have also seen one in Oklahoma close.
  5. Beware of the duck indeed! Go RW and the Indians of Riesel!
  6. Hasnt Pitt beaten NB two years in a row? Did they stop Burns last year. Isnt NB not as good as last year and Pitt better? Lots of rose colored glasses on this thread. Pitt by 2 TD's.
  7. Of course being faster and stronger is going to help you be a better athlete in anything. Baseball and football are a lot different, the movements involved and the strength needed to do the sport specific things that make one good at those sports. If it is good for a straight universal offseason why dont guys in the NBA and MLB do the exact weight training that people in the NFL do? They dont because it is a different type of strenght or movements to excel at those sports. I have all my guys in baseball lift weights year round but we do Wichita States weight program for baseball. If this universal offseason was more explosive and speed instead of just heavy weights I think more guys would want there baseball and basketball guys doing it but since the football coaches are in charge of it, it is going to be more football specific. There should be options for the kids that dont play football. As far as jealousy it is the football coaches that are the most guilty of it. I have seen it first hand. They dont want like it when the other two big sports have as much or more success. They dont want these options for the athletes that dont play football. Also Andy LaRoche did this as well. He left his high school in Kansas at Christmas and went to Grayson.
  8. Didnt Wacha throw in the state semi-finals like five or six innings and then turn around and throw four or five more the next day? How many pitches did he throw in that two day span last year? It happens more at 3A and below than at the 4 or 5A level.
  9. LE really beat NB? They are not playing tonight? If this is true, wow.
  10. Does White Oak still have the same coach? I heard he got tossed out of a playoff game last year. What was the punishment from the UIL?
  11. Gus you have no idea about real baseball and how to work a practice effectively, and are totally ignorant on baseball. I would be greatly surprised if you played past little league. You still dont get it. The way baseball is thrown under the bus in so many places because a lot of AD/HFC's are threatened by success of other programs. They do what ever they can to put one sport above all else. You are probably one of these coaches that sacrifices all other programs for the benefit of his. I think all programs need the same chance to have success.
  12. Surely you jest! Baseball is not easy it is very hard. Sure you may not have to be that athletic to play it but it takes intelligence and a different skill set. I have seen great athletes be very bad baseball players. In baseball you have to be very mentally tough because you deal with so much failure. When you make a mistake you dont get to just get to hit someone hard the next play. You may not get to make up for it for awhile. I dont know what baseball practices you watch but for most good teams there is not really a bunch of standing around and you must have more than an hour to practice. This is just typical response and "problem solving" just broad strokes and say this is the way it is.
  13. Excellenct post ctrain. Very true. I have been in a situation where we could not start practice even with the guys who didnt run track or play football until 4:30 because the AD didnt want anyone to start while they were going through a track workout that was supposed to be 30 minutes but usually went on for an hour or more. Not even the kids who dont play football or run track could not start baseball practice! How crazy is that? By the time you RST you are starting at 5:00. There is such a double standard. Of course during the period during football season we practiced football but during basketball and baseball we did offseason football. There were a couple of times during the baseball playoffs he kept some of my baseball players on gamedays during the period to do spring football drills! Needless to say I left because this is not what he told me to begin with when I interviewed and got the job. He could not keep a baseball coach either, imagine that! It is a huge double standard that is ridiculous. I have my kids now lift 3-4 days a week doing a more baseball specific weight program designed by the premier strength and conditioning coach in college baseball. This goes on at more schools than you can imagine. Nothing else matters and I have heard many AD's say the same thing behind closed doors. 44stack your posts show your ignorance about this topic and baseball in general. Your typical football coach responses are laughable. Fire'em if they dont like it! Football is all that matters!
