  1. Way back in the day, before clocks displayed the tenths, the ending of the game was understood to be when the horn sounded. I think that is still the rule, absent the red lights on the backboard.
  2. Why is Blue Ridge's colors Green/White? There ought to be a law. This would apply to Greenville as well. If you have a color in your name.....that should be your school color.
  3. From a fan's perspective it could be really nice, especially since both A and AA divisions will be finishing on the same weekend. For example: Site 1 hosts both A games on same date...great for small school crowd Site 2 hosts both AA games on same date...great for small school crowd Site 3 hosts AAA on Friday night and AAAA and AAAAA the next day....big gate/possible 3 games for fans Site 4 hosts last weekend of AAA, AAAA, AAAAA games...big gate/possible 3 games for fans or you could have all 3 of the larger classes at the same site on Saturday...they used to do it in the dome and Texas Stadium. Now that I'm not coaching...I like the idea. I wouldn't like it so much if I'm playing Euless Trinity in the stadium that's 15 minutes from their school and in which they've already played. It's a good idea for the high school football fan, not so much for the actual teams involved.
  4. It is gratifying to see these kinds of results when athletes follow the program set up by their coaches. The student in question is a hard working, clean living, dedicated athlete and such gains are very believable to me. He is already good and will be impressive as a senior.
  5. This is indeed a sad day. I coached against Tony when he was in high school. Pretty much impossible to defend in football or basketball. He was a great ambassador for Grapeland.
  6. I would think if you had a field that was really close to a railroad crossing you could be legit in asking people not to bring the train horns. I also think that decision needs to be made before you see your schedule at realignment and not based on who you will be playing the next two years.
  7. I understand your sentiments, a lot of people own this breed and have no problems, but how many times do you hear of dogs killing people, and how many times is the culprit a pit bull? My experience is that the number of deaths are seriously weighted to pit bulls.
  8. Other than Texas High, which schools have won state championships? I am not familiar with all of the schools in that county.
  9. How many state champs in this group? I know they are really good, but I think the question was about championships. Crockett got a baseball championship way back in the 80's, maybe something else also. Grapeland has a girls' bb, boys' bb, and a ftb (74). I don't know of anything current for any of these schools. Is Slocum in Houston County?
  10. Coach Roberson has retired and is living in Mart.
  11. I thought Overton looked pretty solid at the plate most of the night, but I would disagree about the defense. I believe the 'Stangs made 5 errors....each infielder made at least one. The great thing is that they overcame their mistakes and were able to get the outs when they counted. Garrett Williamson was a warrior all night. I love the enthusiasm from the whole team.
  12. One game playoffs scare me. Funny things happen in baseball.
  13. On the UIL athletic page look under new releases (or something like that) and it is listed under split alignment or classification or some such.
  14. It just burns me up that a private school is in the public school state tournament. There, I feel better.
  15. I've got a masters degree, an undergraduate degree in history and English, both with GPA in my areas of study of over 3.5, and I probably couldn't balance an equation, do anything in calculas, physics, or even algebra II to save my life. My mind doesn't work that way. Now, I can write a really interesting article on the history of math or science, or tell you how I feel about the subject, or how the subject has changed the way we live....but I get totally confused when math people start talking about their formulas and such. High school has changed since many of the adults went through school. Algebra I is a junior high class. Kids get Algebra II, geometry, pre-cal and such before they get to be seniors. I topped out at geometry as a senior and was proud of it. Let's face it, not all people think alike, and what is easy for one could be impossible for another. It is not always about the effort. Just as there are physical limits on humans, their are also mental limits. Wow, I feel better.
