  1. Thought we'd have a scrimmage thread for the scrimmage this coming Friday. Tigers visiting Lobo Stadium, with varsity scrimmage starting around 7 PM. Lobos open their defending State Champion season with their lone scrimmage of the season. Second time the two teams have ever scrimmaged against one another, with the only other time being last season up in Texarkana. Longview had a 16-0 season last season, ending with the 6A Division II State Title coming back to East Texas, while Texas High had their worst season since finishing 5-5 in 2000, with their 3-7 record. Lobos and Tigers know each other very well, having met 63 previous times on the gridiron. Longview is 40-22-1 in games between the two schools, with the Lobos having won the past 11 meetings. Texas High's last victory in Longview came in 1984, when the Tigers escaped Longview with a 6-0 victory. Texas High hasn't beaten Longview at Grim Park since 1980, a 10-8 Tiger win. Two teams in very different places right now, but hopefully it can be a solid scrimmage this Friday night at Lobo Stadium.
  2. Due to the fact that we scrimmage Elysian Fields and then play Newton in Week 1, the Tatum Eagle Freshman group are in need of a game and a scrimmage. At this point we will take on JV teams if we have to. Scrimmage 8/14 Game on 8/27 Email [email protected]
  3. JVs was 1-1. Scrimmage portion right now is arp 2 Elkhart 1. I just read Elkhart returns 8/7 from a playoff team.
  4. Overton at Big Sandy, 6 p.m. Friday at Wildcat Stadium So yeah, once again, it's just a scrimmage — but it sure beats playing with yourself. Uh, I mean, it sure beats playing against yourself. Please don't ban me. But anyway... What are some things you're hoping to see out of your kids? Overton showed some backfield depth, but struggled to pass the ball. Defensively there was poor tackling and blown assignments. Was this just early-season jitters or a sign of things to come? Big Sandy remains a mystery as well. They've got some young talent on the roster but are struggling to assert themselves. Both teams have good coaching staffs, and they've got their programs going in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see which team has made more progress during the preseason. Thoughts?
  5. Overton at Grapeland, 9 a.m. Saturday at Sandies Stadium Yeah yeah, I get it, it's just a scrimmage — no one's trying to "win" or anything. But what are some things you're hoping to see out of your kids? Grapeland and Overton are both two young teams trying to turn their programs around. I don't know where the Sandies are in this process, but the Mustangs have a lot of young, raw talent. While there's only three or four seniors, there's a bunch of sophomores who started last year — and some gifted freshmen coming up. Barton & Co. believe in starting the best 11 guys on a side, so seniority doesn't count for squat if you don't put out. I've seen and heard good things coming outta practice thus far, Saturday is a chance to see how much progress has been made... or if we need to go back to the drawing board. Thoughts?
