It has been 12 long years since Longview walked out of Lobo Stadium with a victory against John Tyler, but the Lobos on Friday night cruised to a 41-13 victory to end John Tyler’s 3-game winning streak over the Lobos at their home stadium, and end John Tyler’s 5-game overall winning streak inside Lobo Stadium. With the win, Longview improved 3-0 on the season. That marks the first time since 2004/2005 that Longview has had back to back 3-0 starts to a season, following Longview’s 3-0 start to the 2017 season. It’s just the fifth time in 15 seasons under head coach John King that Longview has started 3-0. The other time being in 2009. The win also marked Longview’s 50th overall win against John Tyler. It’s the 2nd program that Longview has at least 50 victories against, the other being Marshall with 61 victories now. Now the Lobos turn their attention to a state that after constantly filled Longview’s non-district schedule for the better part of a decade and a half, has only been on Longview’s schedule once this decade. Longview heads to Louisiana for the first time since 2015, and travels to Ruston for the first time in 16 seasons. The Lobos and Bearcats haven’t met in 16 seasons, but they’re definitely no strangers to each other. Longview’s old offensive coordinator from the beginning of John King’s era calls on the Lobos this week as second year head coach, Jerrod Baugh, takes helm against his former head coach. It’ll be the first time for John King to face a former assistant coach as a head coach. Longview and Ruston have met 10 times previously, with the Lobos winning the last two in 2001 and 2002. The Lobos opened the series in 1992, with a 23-12 victory at Ruston. Ruston then won the next two meetings, in 1993 and 1994. In 1993, the #10 Bearcats were able to make a goal line stand against Longview to win 14-9. In 1994, the #1 ranked Bearcats took advantage of a missed extra point to win 14-13. The Lobos then won the next three. Ruston’s only win by more than a touchdown came in 1999 when they hung 51 points on the helpless Lobos. It was the first time in 47 years that Longview had given up 50 points or more. Excluding that 51-18 victory, the other three Ruston victories have come by a total of 12 points. The visit to Ruston will mark just the 2nd time since 2010 that Longview ventures to Louisiana for a non-district game, and 3rd time overall since 2010 (playoff game in Shreveport in 2010). The Lobos are looking to improve to 4-0 for the first time since finishing 10-0 in 2005. WEEK FOUR 11-6A SCHEDULE: Longview at Ruston (James Field) Mesquite vs Hurst L.D. Bell (E.H. The win over the Mavs was only the 2nd in 18 meetings against Marshall for Longview. In 1931, Marshall shutout Longview, 14-0, at Fair Park in Marshall. In 1935, Jim Whitten’s 1 yard pass reception in the first quarter was all it took as Longview knocked off El Dorado from Arkansas, 7-0, at Fair Park. In 1945, Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson handed Longview a 19-13 loss at Lobo Stadium. In 1951, Lufkin’s RV Holleman run in from 6 yards out to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead. But a missed extra point would cost Lufkin after Claude Pliler would haul in a 10 yard pass reception to tie the game. The following PAT was good and Longview upset Lufkin, 7-6, Lufkin. In 1956, Longview and Denison battled back and forth all night in a game that saw 12 touchdowns between the two teams. Pete Burks tallied 4 for the Lobos, and behind 30 first downs and 477 rushing yards, the Lobos knocked off the Yellowjackets, 47-33 at Lobo Stadium. In 1962, Henderson knocked off Longview, 22-18, at Lobo Stadium. In 1973, Mike Mock would kick a field goal and run in from 1 yard out, while Bobby Hunter and Steve Gaddis also tallied for Longview, in a 24-0 victory over Dallas Hillcrest for the Lobos. In 1979, Clifford Ward would rush in from two yards out in the first quarter before the Kangaroos of #9 ranked Killeen would tally on a 4-yard rush from George Leaito to tie the game as Longview and Killeen tied at Lobo Stadium, 7-7. In 1984, Clifford Powell, Leon Hendrix and Joe Johnson would all register scores for the Lobos as Longview would dominated the Eagles in Abilene, 21-0. In 1990, Bobby Taylor’s 75 yard pass reception in the first quarter was just the beginning for the Lobos as Longview would go on to route Carrollton Newman Smith, 49-12. The Lobos would hold the Trojans to just 135 yards on the night while tallying for 399 for themselves. In 2001, Tate Casey would pass in a 23 yard pass reception in the first quarter and Willie Andrews would rush in for two touchdowns as Longview rolled over Ruston, 35-7, at Lobo Stadium. Longview would rush for 305 yards and add an additional 116 yards passing in the rout. In 2012, Longview and Lufkin would each score two touchdowns to be tied 14-14 after 1 quarter before the Lobos took over. Longview would score three touchdowns in the 2nd quarter and roll up 446 yards overall on the night in a 45-14 beatdown of the Panthers at Abe Martin Stadium. The win would end Longview’s 15 year run without a win in Lufkin.

The Lobos, fresh off a 35-28 national televised win over long time rival Lufkin, headed into Marshall's Maverick Stadium and handed the Mavericks one of their worst losses ever in their home stadium with a 60-14 Lobo win. Longview tallied three times in the first quarter and never looked back, strolling to a point total that Longview had never reached against the Mavericks before. The 60-14 win increased Longview's lead in the series to 19 games and gave the Lobos a three game winning streak over the Mavs. Since their 2015 upset victory, Marshall has not been able to get a single thing going in the three games against the Lobos, struggling to a 157-28 scoreline in favor of Longview. The Lobos now turn their attention to another long time rival, their third in three weeks, in the John Tyler Lions. The Lobos and Lions will meet for the 95th time on Friday night as the two storied programs are two of East Texas's most traditional powers. The Lions got a little revenge on their cross town rivals last Saturday night, handing the Tyler Lee Red Raiders an ugly 65-21 loss, following an upset Red Raider victory last season that saw the Lions miss the post season for the first time since 2007. The win for Cujo seemingly rectified the Lions' opening season, 57-7, loss at the hands of DFW powerhouse Cedar Hill, where the Lions could not get a single thing going their way. The Lions come into the rivalry game having won their past five games in Lobo Stadium, three of which have come against the Lobos. Longview's last victory over the Lions at their home stadium came in 2006, when the Lobos had to come from behind to win 28-21. Since that win, the Lions have had three straight blow out victories, with all three match ups being multiple score games at halftime in favor of the Lions. Overall, the Lobos and Lions have traded victories back and forth in the last six meetings, with neither team being able to regain control of the series, following Longview's 9-game winning streak over the Lions. The two schools will meet for the 95th time, after three previously unfound games were discovered from 1917 and 1920. The series dates back to 1912, when Longview registered a 13-7 victory in Longview. The two schools will meet for the 46th time overall in Longview this coming Friday, where Longview plans to celebrate Green Out and Homecoming. The Lobos are 14-2 all-time in their Green Out contests, dating back to 2002, with the only losses coming to Allen in 2011 and John Tyler in 2014. The Lions are 1-3 in Green Out contests. Under John King, the Lobos are 14-0 in Homecoming contests with Longview's last loss coming in 2013 to Tyler Lee (18-14). This will be the first time since 1992 that John Tyler will be the Homecoming opponent for the Lobos, when Longview pulled out a 17-16 victory. Overall, the Lobos are 38-13-4 in Homecoming games. The Lobos are looking to improve to 3-0 on the season for just the fifth time in 15 seasons under John King, and for the first time in back to back seasons since King's first two seasons in 2004 and 2005. In 1951, Longview hosted Port Neches-Groves at Lobo Stadium and walked away with a 19-13 victory. In 1956, the Lobos jumped out to a 20-0 lead behind two Pete Burks 50+ rushing touchdowns before South Oak Cliff attempted to climb back into the game, but the Lobos held on for a 20-14 win over the Golden Bears. In 1962, Longview and South Oak Cliff battled to a 6-6 tie in Lobo Stadium. In 1973, Mike Mock kicked a 40 yard field goal before Danny Majors rushed in from 1 yard out to give the Lobos a 9-0 lead. The Longview defense would have to hold on and gave the Lobos a 9-6 win over La Marque. In 1979, Fort Worth Paschal’s Daryl Zeller had an 11-14 passing night and hit David Brooks with 5 minutes to go to give the Panthers a 30-23 victory over the Lobos. In 1984, five different Lobos would tally and added on a field goal as Longview would run all over Fort Worth Trimble Tech for a 35-14 victory. In 1990, seven different Lobos would run into the end zone, including a first quarter John Washington 38-yard pass reception, as Longview dominated Fort Worth Trimble Tech the entire way in a 47-0 thumping. In 2001, Bobby Renkes finished his record setting day by kicking his 3rd field goal of the night with 1:12 remaining to lift Lake Highlands to a 15-14 victory over Longview at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. In 2012, Tory White would get the night started as 7 different Lobos tallied in a rain soaked game as Longview would roll past Marshall, 48-0, in Lobo Stadium. In 2013, Ja’Mycal Hasty would scored three touchdowns and a missed extra point would pay dividends for Longview, as the Lobos squeaked past Mississippi’s Olive Branch, 27-26, at Independence Stadium.

The Longview Lobos opened the 2018 football season with a national televised audience watching on, in the 82nd edition of their long standing rivalry with the Lufkin Panthers. Back and forth the two rivals went until the final three minutes when a loose fumble right at the 50 gave the Lobos a chance to bring home the win. And that’s exactly what junior quarterback Haynes King did. Throwing the ball up for grabs, Lobo receiver Kaden Kearbey came down with the game winning touchdown. Following an interception just two plays from scrimmage later, the Lobos sealed their win with their third straight win over the Panthers and their 6th in their last 7 meetings. Next up for the Lobos is another long standing rivalry with the rivals from the East, in the Marshall Mavericks. The 108th edition comes to Marshall’s Maverick Stadium after a solid win for the Mavericks in the 2nd year of the Claude Mathis era for the Mavericks. The Mavs traveled to Tyler to take on Tyler Lee and walked away with a comfortable 42-29 victory. The win in the opening game was Marshall’s first since 2015, and just their third opening game victory in the last decade. The two rivals will meet for the 108th time, and for the 86th consecutive season. A series dating back to 1909, the two schools have met every year since apart from 1913, 1917, 1918, 1920, 1921, 1924, 1925 and 1932. The Lobos come into the game having won two in a row against the Mavs, and 16 of the previous 17 contests. Since the start of their 19-game winning streak over Marshall back in 1969, Longview has registered a 40-9 against the Mavericks. Inside Marshall’s Maverick Stadium has been just as impressive for the Lobos winning 7 of the last 8 games there, with the lone loss coming in 2015 with a 28-25 loss. Longview’s last visit, in 2016, resulted in a 56-7 victory over the Mavericks. WEEK TWO 11-6A SCHEDULE: Longview at Marshall (Maverick Stadium) Mesquite vs Grand Prairie (E.H. The two teams combined for a total of 16 first downs on this defensive day in Lobo Stadium. In 1979, Clifford Ward scored the first three touchdowns on the night and Nathan Harris added another in the 2nd quarter as Longview rolled past Dallas Thomas Jefferson, 27-6, in Lobo Stadium. The Patriots only were able to muster 155 yard on the night. In 1984, Joe Johnson tallied two touchdowns in the first quarter as the Lobos dominated the Highlanders of Fort Worth Eastern Hills, 38-14. Longview used a 31-point first half to take control of the game as four different Lobos scored on the night. In 1990, Killeen grabbed a 9-7 lead heading into the 4th quarter from Leo Buckley Stadium before Andre Davis took over. After a 61 yard rushing touchdown gave the Lobos the lead, Andre Davis got his 2nd on a 4th yard rush to seal the victory for Longview with a 21-9 win over the ‘Roos. Bobby Taylor’s 96 yard kickoff return was Longview’s only tally in the first half. In 2001, trailing the three-time defending 5A State Champions and #2 ranked Midland Lee, 17-13, heading into the 4th quarter, Lobo mania returned with a big celebration. The Lobos had not made the post season in four years and used that aggression to make their returning statement with a 20-point 4th quarter to knock off the Rebels in Lobo Stadium, 33-17. Fred Hawkins tallied all three touchdowns to seal Longview’s biggest victory in years. In 2007, Mark Johnson tallied twice and Johnny Garrett added three more insurance as the Longview Lobos dominated the Mavericks of Marshall from the get go in a 41-7 victory at Maverick Stadium. Longview produced four turnovers in the victory that saw Dacorris Ford return an interception 75 yards for a touchdown. In 2012, a week after losing senior quarterback Bivins Caraway, the Lobo special teams and defense pulled through in big ways to help push Longview past North Little Rock, 30-14. A 84-yard punt return and a 4th quarter blocked punt return for a touchdown highlighted the day for Longview.

In their 82nd meeting overall, the Longview Lobos will do battle with the Lufkin Panthers in the opening game of the 2018 football season. The Lobos, coming off a 13-2 season and an appearance in the 6A Division II State Semi-Finals in 2017, will be looking to continue their recent magic against the Pack. Longview has won 5 of their previous 6 meetings against Lufkin, and 8 of their last 10. Those numbers include three playoffs victories, which culminated in last season’s State Quarterfinal match up that saw the Lobos come from behind in the final minute to erase a 32-26 deficit and walk away with a 33-32 victory over their rivals. The two squads will take a break from meeting in the post season the next two seasons with Lufkin dropping to Class 5A Division I while Longview remains in Class 6A. Returning for Longview is a host of offensive support all over the field. But the highlight will undoubtedly by Longview’s junior quarterback in Haynes King. King took over for the Lobos following their 52-34 loss to Mesquite Horn four games into the 2017 season as a sophomore. King never looked back after getting his first start the next week against Tyler Lee, finishing the season with 25 passing touchdowns which ended as the 2nd best passing touchdown mark in a season by a Longview quarterback. The Panthers also returned their quarterback in Kewone Thomas, but will face to find a way to replace all everything running back in Isaiah Phillips who finished with three touchdowns and 237 yards against the Lobos last November. Longview and Lufkin will be meeting for the 12th consecutive year, in which they will have played 17 games in those 12 years. The two schools have met twice in 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2017 in recent seasons. Overall, the two schools will be meeting for the 82nd time where Longview has gained a 40-37-4 overall record in the previous 81 games. The series dates back to 1932, where the Panthers ran away with a 34-0 victory in Panther Stadium. The series has mostly remained closed through it’s nearly 90 year history, with Longview’s 8 game lead being the largest margin. Longview’s largest victory in the series came in 1958, when the Lobos take advantage of four Lufkin turnovers in a 62-0 victory in Longview. Lufkin’s largest victory in the series came in 1954, when the Panthers ran for over 440 yards and intercepted 4 Longview passes to run to a 48-7 victory. Longview and Lufkin have met 10 times in the post season, the Lobos having won 6 of the 10 including the last three. Lufkin will enter Lobo Stadium on a six game losing streak in Longview. The Panthers last win in the city of Longview came in 2003, when the Pack shut out the Lobos 14-0 in game that saw nothing but rain, rain and more rain. Since then, the Lobos have picked up a 31-24 victory in 2007, a 24-10 victory in 2011, a 55-30 victory in 2013, a 21-20 victory in 2015 and a 35-16 win in last season’s season opener. Two bitter old rivals meet for the fourth time in three years in post season play after two unexpected victories propelled their teams to the 6A Division II State Quarterfinals. The Lobos are fresh off a victory that saw them fall behind 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter only to claw their way back before halftime and take the lead, never to relinquish it. One final grasp wasn't enough for #8 Klein Collins to come from behind and Longview held onto the victory, 30-24. On the other side, the Lufkin Panthers saw themselves dominate the Spring Westfield Mustangs before nearly squandering a 14-3 lead. The Pack were able to hold on in New Caney though, and bring home a defensive 14-11 victory. The two teams now turn their attention to each other. An opening week win for the Lobos over Lufkin, 35-16, might give some fans the idea that Longview will walk away with the victory...but leave no doubt that these are two very different teams from that opening week clash. A young Lufkin squad has matured and reeled off 7 consecutive victories on the season after falling to the Woodlands in their only other blemish. The Pack are into the State Quarterfinals for the first time since 2005 and are enjoying their highest win total in a single season since 2006 when the Pack finished 11-1. Longview, on the other hand, has since an even bigger difference as injuries had decimated the Lobos early in the season and a quarterback change four weeks into the season following the loss to Mesquite Horn has propelled Longview all the way into the final 8. Longview's Haynes King became the 3rd Longview quarterback to ever throw for 20 touchdowns in a season with his four touchdown day against Klein Collins, and improved himself to 9-0 as the starter of the green and gold. Longview's Jaylin Brown, fresh off a week where he broke the record for most career receiving touchdowns in a Lobo uniform, pulled in three against the Tigers to broke the single season receiving touchdown record. The two teams have faced off 9th previous times in the playoffs, with Longview holding a 5-4 edge. The two teams have faced off four times since John King became a coach at Longview High. Once in 2002 when King was an assistant, the Pack edged the Lobos 24-21 at Rose Stadium. In 2004, in King's first season as the head coach, the Panthers came from behind to defeat Longview 31-21 at Homer Bryce Stadium after trailing entering the fourth quarter. In 2014, Longview erased a 28-0 hole against Lufkin and came from behind to win 43-42 at Rose Stadium. And in their last meeting in 2015, at Rose Stadium, the two teams were level at 10 going into halftime before Longview dominated the second half and rushed their way to a 31-10 victory. Since ending the Pack's 11-game winning streak over Longview in 2007, the Lobos have rolled to a 9-4 record over the Panthers and more recently, since 2011, Longview has gained a 7-2 record over the Pack. It's a game everyone in East Texas was hoping to see for a 6A Region II Final when the playoffs began, and it's one we're getting. What a showdown Saturday night will be! Longview sent their statement to the rest of the region following their 42-21 demolishing of the Beaumont West Brook Bruins. The Lobos held a slight 7-6 lead at halftime only to come out roaring in the 3rd quarter to the tune of a 28-point quarter and a 35-14 lead. Another touchdown added in the fourth pushed the Longview lead to 42-14 before the Bruins finally broke the scoring run in the final minutes with the second stringers in. For Longview, it avenges a loss to these same Bruins from a year quarter. A loss that saw the Lobos blow a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter down in Beaumont to fall 34-33. The win gives the Lobos their 10th 10-win season under current head coach John King, and their 60th playoff win in program history. Next up for the Lobos is a familiar playoff opponent in the Dallas Jesuit Rangers. The Lobos and Rangers meet for the 3rd time in the playoffs, after previous meetings in 2004 and 2012. In 2004, the Rangers came in with a 10-1 record to the Area round meeting as the Lobos came in 11-0. In a rain drenched game, Longview walked away with a 44-14 victory. In the 2012 meeting, a profilic offense was suppose to give the Rangers a big chance but after a back and forth 1st quarter, Longview imposed their will on Jesuit and ran away with the contest with a 57-25 win. The Lobos return to John E. Kincaide Stadium for the first time since their 2013 Bi-District contest against Rowlett. Kincaide has become a 2nd home for previous Longview teams, as the Lobos sport a 10-0 record at the Dallas ISD based stadium. 9 of those 10 victories came in the post season. Those 3 of those games saw the Lobos not score 30 points, and only 2 of the games were within two scores. Longview will be looking to advance to their 10th Regional Round appearance under John King. LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES 11.11.2016 - Beaumont West Brook 34, Longview 33 - C.A. Thomas Multipurpose Center FULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW And so we meet again. For the second consecutive season, the Longview Lobos and the Beaumont West Brook Bruins will face off in the 6A Division II Region II Bi-District round of the playoffs. Unlike last season though, despite claiming a share of the district championship in 2016, when Longview had to travel to Beaumont to take on the Bruins..the Lobos will welcome West Brook to Lobo Stadum. Last season, the Lobos saw a 10-point 4th quarter lead escape them in the later part of the quarter following a fumble inside the 10 yard line that would've sealed the deal for the Lobo gave the Bruins new life. West Brook walked away with the 34-33 victory. The loss for Longview marked the first time in 11 seasons that the Lobos failed to reach the 2nd round of the playoffs. Both John King's losses in bi-district play have come at the hands of a missed field goal as the clock ran out, and each came by a single point. Longview's last three seasons have ended at the hands of missed field goals. In 2014, Longview missed a long field goal in the ran as time ran out to fall to Mansfield Lake Ridge, 37-35. In 2015, Longview missed a chip shot field goal in the final seconds that would've sent the Lobos into overtime as they fell again to the Eagles, 56-53. And then last season's 34-33 loss to West Brook. The Lobos travel home where they are holding onto a 7-game home winning streak. Longview is 180-37-6 all-time at new Lobo Stadium, which opened in 1976. That record also includes a 62-5 mark under John King with one forfeit included. Longview will be hosting it's 3rd playoff game at Lobo Stadium where in 1984 the Lobos fell to Bryan and had to wait until 2009 to host another when Longview demolished Whitehouse 52-9. In 1927, Leonard Ray tallied a school record 6-touchdowns, and Randall Ross added four of his own as the Loboes knocked off Jefferson in the largest margin of victory in Lobo history by a 84-0 count. In 1944, Longview saw it’s playoff hopes come to a halt as Marshall knocked off the Lobos 14-0 at Maverick Stadium in the 11-2A district title decider. In 1961, Longview close out it’s season at Panther Stadium in Lufkin with a 14-0 victory over the Panthers. In 1967, trailing 12-0 in the first quarter and 20-14 at half-time, Steve Judy came to the rescue in notching touchdowns 3 and 4 on the night in the 3rd as Longview clinched a playoff spot for the first time in 20-years with a 35-20 in Lufkin. For the first time since 2009, Longview will host a home playoff game in the first round of the 2017 Class 6A Division II playoffs. That’s what the Lobos have earned following a 49-7 thrashing of Rockwall Heath. The win improves Longview to 8-1 overall on the year, with the only loss the first district game of the season when Horn handed the Lobos a butt whooping. The Jags have gone undefeated so far in district play with one game remaining, giving Longview one last hope at a district championship. But the important thing for Longview is the clinching of a home playoff game, something that they didn’t get last season despite being co-district champions. Last season, Longview was forced to travel all the way to Beaumont, Texas to take on the West Brook Bruins. Despite holding a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Lobos saw their season end on the hand of one extra point, 34-33. This season, the role will be reversed. The Bruins have lost two games in district play and now will be forced to take on the Lobos in Longview this season. But first, the Lobos must close out against a Mesquite team that’s reeling. Since starting the season off 1-1, with a dominating win over Garland 49-13, the Skeeters have seen their season under first year head coach Jeff Fleener go down the drain. The Skeeters are on a 7-game losing streak, with the closest game being two 15-point defeats to North Mesquite and John Tyler. The last three weeks fo the Skeeters, they have surrendered at least 45-points. The Lobos are coming off one of their more dominant games of the season, a 49-7 beatdown of previously 4-1 in district Rockwall Heath. The 42-point win was the largest margin of victory this season for the Lobos. After falling behind 7-0 after one quarter, the Lobos exploded in the second for a 21 point outburst. In the second half, the onslaught continued with a 28-point half. The win marks the 14th Senior Night in a row that the Lobos have won, all under current head coach John King. Longview’s last Senior Night loss came in 2003 when Longview fell, 14-0, to Lufkin. This week, the Lobos return to a place that was once kind to them…but the last three visits have been nothing but struggles. E.H. Hanby Stadium was once a perfect record for Longview, sitting at 8-0. But it’s last win came in 2011. Since, the Lobos have fallen 33-7 to Mesquite in 2012 and now back to back losses against Mesquite Horn, 25-17 in 2012 and 52-34 early this season. It’s a streak that needs to end this week for Longview, mostly for momentum to continue and going into next season where the Lobos will undoubtedly still be coupled with Mesquite ISD. In 1961, a missed two point conversion by the Lobos in the 2nd quarter was all Texas High needed to corral Longview at Grim Park in a 16-14 victory for the Tigers. In 1967, Rodney Hill scored twice as five different Lobos tallied touchdowns in a 42-0 victory over Texarkana at Grim Park. The Lobos held Texas High to just 136 yards total on the night. In 1972, the Lobos fell behind early in the first quarter against Tyler Lee but a 93 yard kickoff return by Calvin Portley and a Mike Mock field goal in the first quarter erased the deficit as the Lobos knocked off the Red Raiders, 21-7, at Rose Stadium. The stretch run to the 2017 playoffs finally gets back underway this week after the entire district enjoyed a week off from action. It was a much needed week off for the Lobos of Longview after suffering numerous injuries through the first 6 weeks of the season (and even stretching into two days and the scrimmage week). But before they took the week off, Longview enjoyed a much needed and extremely important victory over the Rockwall Yellowjackets, 31-21. The Lobos lead throughout the game, grabbing a 24-7 lead late into the 3rd quarter before the Jackets crawled back into the game in the 4th. A second interception by Jalen Carr ended any doubt who would win the game. Carr ended the night with three picks overall. The win for Longview improved the Lobos to 5-1 on the season with four big games remaining in North Mesquite, John Tyler, Rockwall Heath and Mesquite. The win marked Longview’s 7th consecutive victory over the Yellowjackets, and improved the Lobos to 4-0 all-time at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium. Longview now turns it’s focus to North Mesquite, who is coming off a 7-point loss to Rockwall Heath and sits at 1-2 in district overall. The Lobos and Stallions meet for the 13th time, 10th in district play as the Lobos look to win their 5th in a row over the North Mesquite. Since falling to the Stallions in 2010, Longview has rolled up four convincing victories over North with the Lobo offense scoring at least 37 in all four of them. Longview is looking to win their 10th game against a single opponent for the 15th time in school history. The Stallions no doubt will be looking to turn the curse of Lobo Stadium as they look for their first win in Longview since 1988. North Mesquite’s been somewhat of a shock in district 11-6A so far this season. No doubt, most expected them to completely struggle and finish at the bottom of the standings. At one point, the Stallions sat at 3-1 on the season before a blow out loss to John Tyler and a single score loss to Heath brought them back to .500 overall. The John Tyler loss, 44-7, was really the only game they haven’t been in this year. While not expected to make the post season, the Stallions definitely will have their chance to get in as they still have Longview, Mesquite Horn and Rockwall left on their schedule. They probably would have to win at least two of those games to make it in. The Lobos will be looking to continue to improve, as they have following their big loss to Mesquite Horn. Since handing the reigns over to sophomore Haynes King, the Lobos are 2-0 overall with the offense averaging 42.5 points a game. For momentum, the playoff race and the district championship race, this week is a big one between Longview and North Mesquite. The loss marked the 2nd of 5 consecutive district losses for the Lobos as they finished last in the district. In 1961, Don Petty opened the scoring and John Malone added two second half markers as Longview shutout Tyler Lee, 20-0, at Rose Stadium. In 1967, Joe Miller caught a touchdown pass sandwiched between two Rodney Hill rushing touchdowns as the Lobos knocked off Lee, 21-0 in Tyler. In 1972, Calvin Portley’s first quarter touchdown was all Longview would need in the end as the Lobos knocked off Palestine 28-0 at Luckett-Kolstad Field in Palestine. In 1989, after a scoreline first half, the Lobos came alive at Abe Martin Stadium as the Lobos behind Kevin Madden,Dean Malone and Kim Wallace’s scores shutout the Pack, 17-0. In 1995, Isiah Stoker tallied three times as the Lobos rushed for 334 yards total on the night in a 29-6 win over Nacogodches. Jeff Works added a 2nd quarter field goal and Eric Davis caught the game’s first touchdown pass. In 2000, Longview threw for 314 yards but gave up 382 rushing yards as Derek Farmer tallied three times for the Red Raiders in a 42-28 victory for Tyler Lee over Longview. It was the 3rd of 5 straight wins for REL over the Lobos. In 2006, Sherman Rosborough intercepted four Tyler Lee passes to set a school record as Jazmon Moon tallied twice in a 24-10 victory over Tyler Lee. Chris Lacy’s 93 yard kickoff return right after Tyler Lee had come back from down 10-0 in the 4th quarter was the difference maker.

Longview and Rockwall’s week five match ups proved much the difference in both team’s rivalries game. Longview, meeting Tyler Lee for the 58th time overall, saw the Red Raiders climb back to a tie in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter and compete well with the Lobos as Longview took a blocked extra point that was returned for two points and a last second field goal to the break with their 19-13 lead. After halftime, the Lobos decided they weren’t playing around anymore spouting off 35 points to win their 13th consecutive game over the Red Raiders, 54-26. Tyler Lee’s only offensive touchdown came in the 3rd quarter, before a long fumble return in the 4th gave them their only two scores of the 2nd half. The Lobo defense has given up a total of 23 points in the second half of games through five this season. One problem remains for Longview though. The first half, more importantly the second quarter. After scoring the most points they’ve scored in a second quarter this season with 12 against Tyler Lee, the Lobos sit at a -5 overall in the quarter..which isn’t as bad when you take put the 31 scored against vs Mesquite Horn. However, the team’s play in the first half this season has been spotty at best despite holding a lead in 4 of the 5 games. Longview has erupted in the second half of each game this season outscoring their opponent 119-29 through five games. Against Tyler Lee, A’Darius Carter led the way for the Lobos as he tied the school rushing record with 5 rushing touchdowns in a night. Carter came up just short of a 91 season long record of 6 total touchdowns in a game, which was set twice by Leonard Ray in the 1927 season. Irregardless, Carter became just the 6th player to score 5 or more touchdowns for Longview. Where the Lobos found paydirt, Rockwall found misery. Despite holding a 27-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Jackets couldn’t hold of their cross town rival Heath as the Hawks came all the way back scoring the last touchdown of the game and taking their first lead of the night with 0:00 on the clock. Despite some saying the Hawks didn’t actually get in the end zone, Heath knocked off their rivals for the second straight season in a 28-27 upset. The loss for Rockwall comes a week after seeing the Jackets dominate John Tyler, 48-7. The series between the Lobos and Jackets dates all the way back to 1931, when Rockwall knocked off Longview 20-6 at Jacket Field in a Class B Bi-District game. Since that meeting, the Lobos have rolled off six consecutive wins over the Jackets. Longview comes into Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium with a perfect 4-0 record in Rockwall, with the closest game being a 14-10 Lobo win over Rockwall back in 2004. Longview’s last visit to Rockwall saw the Lobos trail Heath, 14-0, before most Longview fans even got to the stadium. But the Lobos rolled off 35 straight in a 35-21 win. It’s a feat they’ll be looking to match this Friday night as they welcome the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears for Homecoming 2017. The Lobos, 2-0 on the young season, are fresh off a 41-7 win over the Marshall Mavericks. The win over the Mavs was their 16th win in the last 17 against Marshall, and was their 60th overall in the long standing rivalry. After hosting the 107th battle between the Lobos and Mavericks, Longview now turns to hosting Dallas ISD’s South Oak Cliff in the 7th contest between the two schools. The Lobos have never lost against the Golden Bears, with only a 1962 tie blemishing an otherwise perfect record over SOC. Last season, the Lobos 7-0 early to the Golden Bears after a long drive of 17 plays to open the game. From there on, Longview rolled to a 62-14 win. For the second straight year, the Golden Bears will be the opponent for Homecoming 2017. The Lobos improved to a perfect 13-0 last season under John King in Homecoming games, and will be looking to continue that trend against their final non-district opponent on Friday. Longview has scored at least 50 points in their previous 5 Homecoming games (52, 55, 56, 61, 62). South Oak Cliff is the 17th DISD school the Lobos have faced. Longview is 47-8-2 in the previous 57 games against Dallas ISD schools. Longview’s last loss in Longview to a DISD school came in 1966 when Dallas Woodrow Wilson escaped Longview with a 19-14 win. The last overall loss to a DISD school came against Dallas Carter in 1991, 26-0, in the Area Round of the playoffs. The Lobos are 20-3 under John King in non-district games at Lobo Stadium, with only Allen (2011) and John Tyler (2010, 2014) able to defeat Longview at home. SOC will be looking to rebound following a tough 56-20 loss at the hands of the Lancaster Tigers. The Golden Bears started the season with a big upset over Ennis, as the Bears scored on the last play of the game to knock of the Lions, 29-28. Right with the kickoff of the 108 season of Lobo football, a kickoff return for a touchdown started the 2017 season with a bang for the Longview Lobos. The win started off what would become their 39th victory against their long time rival, Lufkin. While the Lobo offense got off to a slow start, it was kick into gear mid way through the 2nd quarter when Carter would take over the helm. Despite a drive of over 7 minutes and 17 plays for Lufkin to start the second half, the Lobo offense would continue it's dominance with Carter at the QB spot until midway through the 4th when the Lobos coughed up their only fumble on the night. By then, the Lobos had established a 28-10 lead and looked well onto the way to their first victory of the year. The Lobos, starting the season with a win for just the second time since 2012, now look towards another long time rival. From #80 against Lufkin, to #107 against Marshall. The rematch following Marshall's 2015 upset of Longview (28-25) proved to be no match up last season, as the Lobos marched all over the Mavericks in a 56-7 victory. The win marked the largest victory against Marshall in the series history for the Lobos. The win marked Longview's 15th win over the Mavs in the last 16 seasons. Tonight, the Lobos will look to win their 60th overall game against the Mavericks which would be the first time in Longview history that Lobos have recorded at least 60 wins against a single opponent. Marshall, with a fresh new coaching staff following Harper's move to Duncanville, started the season off with a 29-27 loss against Chance Amie and the Robert E Lee Rebels. Claude Mathis takes over for the Mavs in their first road game under his helm but Mathis is definitely no stranger to Longview football after two seasons being district mates when he was the head coach at DeSoto. Both contests went Longview's way as the Lobos upset the Eagles in 2010, 38-35, and held on for a strong defensive victory in 2011, 23-21. This year's edition marks Marshall's 20th visit all-time to Longview's Lobo Stadium (the new stadium). Since their shocking double overtime victory over the Lobos in 1998, 35-28, Marshall has not beaten the Lobos at the stadium running a record of 7 consecutive defeats. In 1978, five different Lobos scored for the Lobos, highlighted by a 78 yard interception return by Ed Jackson, as the Lobos knocked off Dallas Thomas Jefferson 34-0 at Cobb Stadium. In 1989, the Lobos fell behind 12-0 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium against North Mesquite before a huge 4th quarter comeback spurred by two Selwyn Broughton touchdowns in a 15-12 shocker over the Stallions. In 2000, fresh off their 2nd straight State Championship, Cedric Benson notched four touchdowns as the Midland Lee Rebels opened the season with a 40-7 win over Longview at Memorial Stadium in Midland. In 2006, the Lobos grabbed a 38-21 lead before a late 4th quarter comeback by the Mavericks pushed the game to the brink with a last second hail mary falling just short. The 108 season of Longview football begins the season with the 80th match up against arguably their biggest current rival, the Lufkin Panthers. The Lobos and Panthers meet for the 12th consecutive season, with the last season they didn’t meet coming in 2005. It’ll be the 58th year in the previous 59 seasons that the two schools have met. In the 12 consecutive years the two schools have played, the Lobos and Pack have met a total of 15 times with two bi-district meetings taking place at Rose Stadium. The two schools have faced off a ridiculous 20 times in the last 15 seasons. In current years, the Lobos have seen themselves take back the series from the Panthers (who had take control following an 11-game winning streak over Longview). The Lobos are 6-2 over the Panthers since the start of the 2011 season. Once again, the two teams have a chance of meeting in the bi-district round of the playoffs this fall, which would mark the two schools meeting for the third time in the last four years in round one. The two schools have met 9 previous times in the playoffs, which is three more times than Longview has met any other team in the post season. After no meetings in post season play in 55 years, the two schools have met four times in the playoffs in the last 15 years. Longview comes into the game looking to shake off a disappointing season, by Lobo standards. With the return to the top classification in 2016, the Lobos saw themselves win a share of the district crown for the second straight season (and 12 district crown in the last 13 seasons). However, having to travel to Beaumont in round one proved to be too much for Longview as the Lobos dropped their first bi-district contest in 11 seasons (dating back to 2005). It marked the first time under head coach John King that Longview did not each at least 9 wins in a season (finished with 8). The bi-district playoff loss was just the second under John King, both losses being by a single point (34-33 last season again West Brook, and 14-13 in 2005 against South Garland). The Lobos enter 2017 looking to improve on a horrendous defensive campaign that saw the team give up the 3rd most points allowed in school history. Lufkin welcome’s Todd Quick back as head coach for his 6th season as the helm of the Pack. The Panthers will be looking to turn 2017 back into the days of old, as no Lufkin team has finished with more than 7 wins since Quick’s first season at the helm when the team when on an unexpected run to round three in a 9-4 finish. Since that 2012 season, Lufkin has seen 5-6, 6-5 and consecutive 7-4 seasons with all four ending in bi-district losses. The Panthers, following Longview’s step, will be looking to improve on last year’s defensive embarrassment as the Pack allowed 391 points last season in one of the worst defensive outputs in school history. Since 2006, the Panthers have seen their struggles grow. Lufkin has amassed a playoff record of 4-11. Longview welcomes Lufkin to Lobo Stadium looking to hold onto a streak 14 years in the making. The Panther make their 6th trip to Lobo Stadium since their last victory in Longview back in 2003. Since, the Lobos and Panthers have had some outstanding duels in the venue. In 2007, the Lobos saw a 24-0 lead disappear before holding on to knock off the Panthers 31-24. In 2008, Lufkin held a 20-9 lead in the 4th quarter before the Lobos clawed back to take the lead. The Pack tied the game on a last second field goal as the game entered overtime. Three overtimes later, the Lobos came out victorious in a 45-37 showdown. In 2011, Lufkin took a 10-0 lead early before Longview rattled off 24 unanswered points in a 24-10 victory. In 2013, after the Panthers took an early 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter..Longview scooted off for 35-points in the third quarter in en route to a 55-30 victory, one of the highest scoring games in the series history. And in Lufkin’s last visit in 2015, the Lobos led through the contest before Lufkin scored a last minute touchdown only to have their extra point attempt blocked in a 21-20 victory for the Lobos. Overall, the two schools will be looking for another fantastic edition of the series. The two schools remain just one game apart in the long, storied series. Let the 80th edition begin. Starting quarterback Bivins Caraway suffered a season ending second quarter injury after the Cowboys came storming out of the gate, in route to a 21-0 halftime lad for Coppell. The Lobos never got things going on the day, having to use a 3rd quarter extra point return and a last second hailmary touchdown to prevent from shutout by Coppell. The Cowboys racked up 287 yards passing, holding the Lobos to just 138 yards rushing in the 41-8 beat down. It remains one of the worst losses in the John King era for the Lobos.

LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES First Meeting FULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW With the closing of the 107th regular season of football at Longview High, the Lobos turn to their 42nd appearance on the UIL State Playoffs as they travel to Beaumont to take on the West Brook Bruins. The trip to Beaumont, despite being co-champions of District 11-6A, will be Longview’s longest ever trip for a first round playoff game. Previously, the longest was two trips to Waco (1983 at Floyd Casey Stadium against Killeen Ellison and 2003 at Waco ISD Stadium against South Garland). The trip to Beaumont also marks the longest road trip for the Lobos (a little over 200 miles) since Longview traveled to Midland in 2000 to take on Cedric Benson and the two-time defending State Champion Midland Lee Rebels. The Lobos will enter the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season, all under head coach John King. The last time Longview missed the post season came in that 2000 season, when the Lobos finished 3-7 overall. Last season, Longview reached the State Quarterfinals for the first time since their Semi-Final appearance in 2010. The Lobos fell 56-53 to eventual State Finalist Mansfield Lake Ridge as the Lobos missed a game-tying field goal in the final 15 seconds of the contest. Despite it being the first time the Lobos reached round 4 in five seasons, Longview continued improved their streak of bi-district victories to 10. John King is 11-1 all-time in Bi-District games as head coach of Longview. The Lobos have also advanced to at least the third round of the UIL playoffs in 9 of the 12 seasons under coach King (failing to do so in 2005, 2006 & 2014). Standing in their way of an 11th straight bi-district victory is an extremely unfamiliar opponent in the West Brook Bruins of Beaumont. The Lobos have faced just one other opponent from Beaumont ISD in their history, the Beaumont Royal Purples. The Lobos and Purples met all the way back in 1940 and in 1942, with Longview’s lone trip to Beaumont being in the 1942 season. Longview won both games against the Royal Purples (7-0 and 20-7). Beaumont West Brook comes into the contest under 5th year head coach Kevin Flanigan, who’s currently experiencing his best season as head coach of the Bruins. Entering the 2016 season, Flanigan’s record stood at 21-21 overall, with four straight seasons of no more than 6 and no less than 4 losses. The last time West Brook themselves finished an entire season with 9 wins came in 2009, when the Bruins advanced to the 5A Division I Regional round. West Brook will be looking to win a 10th game of the season for the first time since 2007, when they finished 10-2. The Bruins will be looking to win their first playoff game since a bi-district victory over Pasadena Dobie in 2010. West Brook has lost four consecutive playoff games since the win. Only one of the four losses has been within 20 points. The winner will move onto the Area Round to take on Lake Highlands or Lakeview Centennial in the Area Round. Following a 35-21 victory over the Heath Hawks, that saw the Lobos having to rebound from a 14-0 deficit, the Lobos clinched their 42nd playoff berth in school history with one game to play. Longview will close up shop on the 2016 regular season when they host the Mesquite Skeeters on Senior Night at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos haven’t lost on Senior Night since 2003 when Lufkin defeated Longview, 14-0. The Skeeters come in eliminated from playoff contention with a 1-5 district record and following a 47-27 loss to Rockwall. Mesquite’s only district win came against Tyler Lee when the Skeeters went for a 2-point conversion in the final minute of the contest to defeat the Red Raiders 57-56. The Lobos will have to wait to decide who their first round opponent is depending on their result AND John Tyler’s result. A John Tyler victory would assure Longview the long trip to Beaumont to take on Beaumont West Brook. A John Tyler loss opens up the possibility that could see the Lobos host Lufkin with a victory over Mesquite. WEEK TEN 11-6A SCHEDULE: John Tyler v. After a bye week for all of 11-6A, the Lobos and Stallions meet for the first time since 2013 at the same place they met just three years ago…Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium. The Lobos (5-1) come in as the lone undefeated squad remaining in the district while North Mesquite’s (3-3) big upset of Rockwall Heath pulled them back into the four-way tie for 2nd place in the district at 2-1. A big reason for the Stallions victory was the return of starting quarterback, Ja’Quez Gooch, who was previously injured against Arlington Bowie a little over a month ago. Longview comes into their 7th game of the season off the heels of a big 36-29 win over Rockwall. The Lobo defense need two big defensive stands in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The win marked Longview’s 36th consecutive victory at Lobo Stadium in district games and improved the Lobos to 69-4 all-time under John King in district games. One of those four losses came at the hands of North Mesquite, back in 2010 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium thanks to a guy named Joe Bergeron. That night, despite holding a 14-3 lead head into the 4th quarter, saw the Stallions rip apart the Lobo defense in the final frame in route to 21 unanswered points. Since that loss, the Lobos have outscored the Stallions by a combined 138-38 in the three games. The two schools meet for the 12th time on Friday night, in a series that dates back to 1971 in a season that saw just second year program North Mesquite pull off the victory 36-23 at Lobo Stadium. The two schools wouldn’t meet again until 1988 in a non-district series that saw the Lobos and Stallions split games. North Mesquite pulled off the dominating win in 1988, 28-14, at Lobo Stadium. Longview, however, came back in 1989 and rallied from a 12-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter to take home the win 15-12 at Mesquite Memorial. The two schools would have to wait until the UIL realignment of 2004 to meet again, where Longview has won the 7 of the 8 district contests between the two teams since. The Lobos will be looking to pull off their fourth straight win over the Stallions and move to 4-0 in district play as Longview continues to fight for their 12th district championship in 13 years. In 1977, five different Lobos scored in a 35-0 victory over John Tyler at Lobo Stadium. Longview racked up 461 yards of total offense while holding the Lions to just 168. In 1983, Joe Johnson scored three consecutive touchdowns with an added safety as the Lobos dominated Lufkin at Abe Martin Stadium, 36-13. Longview racked up 325 yards rushing on the night. In 1988, Michael Carroll’s two touchdown 3rd quarter marked Lufkin’s 24-6 victory over Longview. 6 fumbles on the night doomed the Lobos at Lobo Stadium, with Shawn Lawson’s touchdown being the only marker for the hosts. In 1994, Chris Butcher tailed two touchdowns of 50+ yards each in a 33-15 victory over Nacogdoches at Dragon Stadium. In 2005, Zach Decker’s 23 yard field goal in the final seconds of the game was enough to send undefeated Longview to a 37-35 victory over Rockwall. Andy Tanner for Rockwall tallied three touchdowns on the night as Longview held off a huge rally by the Yellowjackets that saw them take the lead late in the 4th. In 2011, Longview saw a back and forth match up with Mesquite Horn come down to the final quarter as Longview held on for a win over the Jaguars, 38-30. The win was Longview’s 7th consecutive over the Jags in a game that saw Longview finish with more passing yards than rushing on the night.

Lee Red Raiders. The Lobos and Raiders first met in 1960 inside Lobo Stadium, where the Lobos walked away winners in a 47-8 schlacking. The two schools met every yet after that until the 2014 UIL realignment, which saw Longview drop to Class 5A while Lee moved to the newly created Class 6A. While the two schools were meeting on a yearly basis, the Lobos saw a lot of recent success over their Rose City counterparts. Longview has won 11 consecutive against Lee, with their last loss coming in an 18-14 homecoming setback back in 2003. In that contest, the Lobos saw a 14-3 halftime lead vanish in the second half when the Red Raiders scored 15 unanswered. The Red Raiders 2003 win marked the 6th win in 7 meetings between the two schools. It was the most successful run in the series for Lee and it ended a run that saw the Red Raiders win just two games over Longview in the prior 26 seasons. Most of Lee’s success came in the first 12 years of the series. The two schools each traded three game winning streaks over the other in those 12 years. Since then, Longview has run up a 34-8-2 record. The last meeting between the two schools came in 2013, when the Lobos struck for 42 points in the first half (28 in the first quarter) in a 63-7 blow out of the Raiders. Longview rolled up 522 total yards that night, including 270 passing yards. The two schools come into the contest in completely different mindsets. Longview, after suffering an opening week defeat, has rolled off three consecutive wins, including last week’s district opening victory over Mesquite Horn. Tyler Lee, after opening the 2016 season with a surprising 2-0 start, has watched their record fall to .500 after consecutive defeats. The Red Raiders suffered their greatest defeat of the season so far in a 34-7 loss to Rockwall Heath that opened district play. Longview’s win marked John King’s 67th win in 71 district games as head coach of the Lobos. First year head coach Clayton George for Lee fell to 0-1 in district play as head coach of the Red Raiders. Longview returns to Rose Stadium for the first time since their 2015 bi-district playoff victory over Lufkin. The win at Rose Stadium last November marked the 17th win out of their last 18 games held in Tyler. Only Longview’s 2014 area round defeat to Lake Ridge prevents the 100% record. The Lobos are 19-2 at Rose Stadium since their last loss to Tyler Lee in Tyler back in 2002. In 1949, the Lobos saw their Tommy Rae touchdown go by the waist side as Paris knocked off Longview 13-6 in Noyes Stadium. In 1955, Tony Rothrock put home two touchdowns before three second half Lobo touchdowns to put the Razorbacks from Arkansas High away by a 39-6 win at Burham Field. The Lobos tallied 326 rushing yards while holding the Hogs to just 87 total. In 1960, Shreveport Byrd absolutely dominated Longview in a 34-0 blow out inside Lobo Stadium. In 1966, the Lobos traveled to Jones-Coward Stadium in Houston and came back with a 15-0 victory over Houston Smiley as Steve Judy’s 82 run in the first quarter was all Longview needed for the win. In 1977, Longview saw a 17-0 first half lead nearly disappear as Galveston Ball’s comeback bid fell just short in a 17-13 Lobo win. Jim Tutt’s field goal followed by Dinky Edwards and Greg Brown touchdowns were all the Lobos could manage on the night. In 1983, the Joe Johnson show went to work in the second quarter followed by a Leon Hendrix 92 yard punt return as the Lobos rolled over Tyler Lee, 29-11. Longview’s defense held the Red Raiders to just 149 total yards on the night. In 1988, Earnest Hunter racked up three first half touchdowns before adding the winning tally in the fourth quarter as the Lobos hung on to dear life in a 28-20 win over the Red Raiders of Tyler Lee. In 1994, despite trailing 24-0 after rate first quarter, Chris Butcher tallied three touchdowns to bring the Lobos back into the contest. But it wasn’t to be as Bryan held on for a 26-20 win. Bryan was held to just 114 total yards on the night and 7 first downs. In 2005, Hurricane Rita was all the news and it could be felt in the air as the Lobos traveled to face Mesquite for the first time since 1989. The game wasn’t as exciting as the hurricane action, as the Lobos rolled up 407 yards while holding the Skeeters to 92 total in a 48-0 victory.

After a three year layoff, in which the Lobos dropped to Class 5A and the Horn Jaguars moved over into a district with Richardson ISD, the two foes meet at the location of their last meeting..Lobo Stadium. A rivalry that has developed since their State Quarterfinal showdown in 2010, the Lobos and Jags have fought tooth and nail against one another in the three meetings since that playoff game, with the series sitting at 2-1 in those three games. Longview, who took the Quarterfinal game 28-14, as taken home two of those three. Overall, it's Longview that holds the 8-1 overall series lead that dates back to their first meeting in 2004. Only the 2012 meeting saw the Jags come out on top victorious, a game in which Longview was held to just 70 yards rushing on the night. It was Longview's second loss at E.H. Hanby Stadium that season, and their only season in which they have not walked away with at least a share of the district crown under head coach John King. The two schools are coming in both with 2-1 records, which has seen the Lobos rally from their season opening loss to Lufkin with two dominating performances over Marshall and South Oak Cliff by a combined 118-21. The Jaguars will be trying to rebound from their first loss of the season that came at the hands of Cedar Hill last Friday night. Horn opened the 2016 season with impressive performances over McKinney Boyd and Dallas Skyline. Longview comes into the contest riding a 9-game winning streak inside Lobo Stadium, but more impressively, riding a 35-game district winning streak at home. Longview's last loss in a district game at Lobo Stadium came in 2003 on homecoming night against #9 Tyler Lee, 18-14. John King, head coach of the Lobos since 2004, has never suffered a district home defeat and is a staggering 66-4 overall in district contests. The Horn Jags will be looking for their first ever win in Longview, after suffering 4 consecutive defeats. Horn's only single digit loss at Lobo Stadium came in 2010, when the Jags had an opportunity to bring home the win on the final drive of the game only to be stuffed and fall 13-8. The only word that can be expressed after Longview's 56-7 victory over arch rival Marshall last Friday night. The Lobos struck quick and fast in the first half building a 21-0 lead after one quarter, growing that lead to 42-7 at the halftime break. After last season’s 28-25 loss to the Mavericks, the Lobos made quick work to prove last season’s loss was an arbitration instead of a changing of the guard. The win gave Longview it’s 15th victory in their last 16 contests against Marshall. It was also the program’s 59th victory against the arch rival Mavericks. Kendrevian White was the work horse for the Lobos for the second straight week as he registered four touchdowns on the night, becoming the first Lobo to put home four touchdowns since Braylynn Anthony’s four touchdown night last season against Hallsville. The Lobos now return home for their home opener against a foe they haven’t faced since the early 1990s. It’s been 25 years since Longview and Dallas’s South Oak Cliff met on the gridiron, in a series that dates back to 1956. The two programs have met just five times over their histories, all at Longview’s Lobo Stadium (new and old). The only non-Longview victory came in 1962 during a 6-6 tie. The Lobos, for the most part, have dominated the overall series..especially the two previous encounters having outscored the Golden Bears 84-8. The two schools have started the 2016 season in quite opposite fashion. After both schools started the season 0-1, the two teams took very different routes in week two with Longview rolling 56-7 and South Oak Cliff falling apart to Lancaster 51-7. The Lobos will be hosting both Homecoming and Green Out events during the week three contest. Longview has not lost a Homecoming game since 2003 (an 18-14 loss to Tyler Lee), having won 12 consecutive. The Lobos are also 12-2 all-time during Green Out contests, losing just twice to Allen (2011) and John Tyler (2014). Longview also brings an 8-game home winning streak into the game, having only lost to John Tyler (41-25) in their last 21 home games. The game also pits Longview against a Dallas ISD school for the first time since 2008, when the Lobos knocked off Dallas Carter (35-20) in the Regional round of the 4A playoffs. Overall, Longview has registered a 45-8-2 record all-time against DISD schools. WEEK TWO 11-6A SCHEDULE: Longview vs South Oak Cliff John Tyler v. In 1983, Longview shut out the Panthers of Fort Worth Paschal 28-0. Eric Harris, Charles Smith, O’Neal Jackson and Joe Johnson all tallied for the Lobos. In 1988, the Bulldogs of Fort Worth Trimble Tech ran up 395 rushing yards and held the lead (14-7) midway through the 2nd quarter before the Lobos came to life. The end result, behind two touchdowns from Deondreau Bennett and Reggie Adams, was a 35-20 victory for Longview. The 107th season of Longview football begins with the first of Class 6A football for the Lobo program. Returning to the top classification, after just two years in the second highest classification in Texas football, the Lobos face off against a very, very familiar team. Longview and Lufkin headline the opening weekend of the return of Texas High School football with their 79th meeting against one another, and their FIFTH in just three seasons. Since the start of the 2002 football season (just 14 years ago), when the two teams were drawn into a round robin district schedule along with Tyler Lee and John Tyler, the Lobos and Panthers have met a staggering 19 times (including four playoff meetings). Recently, the Lobos have gotten the best of the Pack recording a 6-1 record against Lufkin in the past 7 meetings. Since ending the streak in the second meeting of their 2007 season, the Lobos have recorded an 8-3 record against the Panthers. The past two seasons have seen the two schools open against one another, and face off against one another in the first round of the post season. That possibility remains after the UIL realignment placed Longview in 11-6A and Lufkin 12-6A. With the height of the rivalry, has come some unforgettable games. Most recently, Longview’s 43-42 playoff victory in 2014 in which the Lobos overcame a 28 point deficit to knock the Panthers out of the post season. The following meeting, the 2015 season opener, saw just as close of a contest with Lufkin scoring late looking to tie the game only to have a block PAT be the difference in a 21-20 victory for Longview. The last meeting between the two schools marked the 9th postseason meeting between them. With the dominating 2nd half, the Lobos walked away with the 31-10 win and their 5th playoff win over the Panthers. This season, however, the Lobos head down to Lufkin to a place that has not been kind to them over the years. Longview has lost 9 of their last 10 games at Abe Martin Stadium, with their lone win coming in 2012 with a 45-14 victory. Lufkin comes into the 2016 season with a much different outlook as opposed to Longview, who is fresh off a visit to the State Quarterfinals and has gone at least three rounds deep in 8 of the last 9 seasons. The Panthers, 7-4 on the season in 2015, saw a loss in the first round for the first consecutive season. The Panthers also failed to reach the third round of the postseason for the 9th time in their past 10 seasons. That includes 7 losses in bi-district play. The only time the Pack have reached the 3rd round in the past decade came in 2012 when the Panthers saw a valiant comeback effort come up short in a 55-52 playoff loss to Plano West. The goal for Lufkin this season will be to finally punched through the bubble on their lack of success come playoff time. One thing is to be known for sure, when the Lobos and Panthers get together, something magically is set to happen. A rivalry started in 1932, continues 84 years later.
