  1. The Texas legislature is a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Everyone of them should be voted out of office!
  2. Before I run this up the flagpole, let me say that I'm not threatening to leave the country if this guy or that guy wins. I just think it may be an idea whose time has come, especially in light of recent rumblings in Montana about doing just that. What do you think? Should Texas secede from the USA? Here are the positives. We immediately stop paying federal income tax. We immediately become the 14th richest nation on the face of the Earth. We can drill like there's no tomorrow, build all the refineries we want and become a petroleum exporting country. We already have our own Army. We can have a President of Texas election and get rid of Rick Perry in favor of President Berman and Vice President Eltife. We don't have to worry about either of these guys signing the Kyoto treaty or cap and trade or any of that ####. We don't have to care what Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reed or any of those idiots say. Here are the negatives: Thank you, Fivehead

  4. Decided to get this started. Happy New Year Longhorn Fans!
  5. Q: How does the college recruiting process work? We identify our needs as a program and then we go find what fits our need as well as our university and program. We know who we are, we know what kind of student athletes we can attract so we try to find the best fit for our program to meet the needs that we have. Q: How should a recruit let you know he/she wants to play for your college/university? Personal email. Correctly addressed, with correct spelling! Phone calls are okay, but emails are better in my opinion. Include your vital information; position, grad year, HS, Home town, GPA and Test scores, possibly a schedule of game and a short video showing your best skills - no longer than a 3 min read and 3 min video. Q: What coaches look for on official and unofficial visits On our visits we want to see that a potential student athletes is engaged in the visit, engaged in the program. We want players who want to be a part of our university and program. Q: 8 ways to get a call from a College Coach Grades, Skills (speed, bat, fielding, Pitching/Throwing), Work ethic, attitude, hustle - in no particular order. Q: When do you start identifying potential recruits? We are always looking, if they are a few years away it gets noted in our database and when that year comes we start with the ones we have identified. In the NAIA we recruit year round. We like to have our HS class done by May or June - but its a fluid process. Q: College coaches are reaching out. Now what? Return emails! Return Calls / TXTS - if a coach asks you for something; transcripts, application, stats, video - get it done! We see hundreds of players all the time - but we cant get though our process without work from the potential student athlete. Q: What advice do you have for a high school player not getting much attention from college coaches? Keep working! Don’t panic - we know it’s called the recruiting process, but it should be called marketing - the player needs to market themselves. They may not be getting recruited because no one knows about them. Build your recruiting profile and start connecting with college coaches. https://underrecruitedprep.com/
  6. My son is starting middle school (in Texas), and I would like to buy him a new bat. He will be going to a new charter school. They do not have a baseball coaching staff fully in place, so I asked the Athletic Director what type (certification) should I get him. He told me BBCOR -8. I have never heard of a BBCOR with -8, only -3. I emailed Texas UIL Baseball and they told me that for regulations I needed to email NFHS. I emailed NFHS and they told me they only write regulations for High School, not middle school/jr high. So, I'm asking parents of Texas Middle School baseball players, "What bat certification does your child hit with?" USA, USSSA, BBCOR .50 -3? ...BBCOR -8!?! If you do not have have a child currently playing middle school baseball, do not answer this question (unless you are a coach). (Note: -3 drop is a heavy ratio. I guess if it is BBCOR -3 middle schoolers have to do a lot of upper body strengthening. Also, the minimum 31" is a little long for some 11 year olds. Just my observations.) Thank you.
  7. Shaka has had a rough start to the season, but we'll see if he can work some magic. Baseball moved in the fences and got new turf for the first season under Pierce. Baseball should be pretty good. Herman will begin his dream job with NSD and spring practices. 2017 starts here for the Horns! Hook em'
  8. Texas officials “will frown” on possible bowl game with Texas A&M: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/20/texas-officials-frown-on-bowl-matchup-with-texas-am/ Texas officials have always seemed wary of reviving the series with Texas A&M, which makes sense from the Texas point of view. To Longhorn officials, a rivalry with Texas A&M does more to help those in College Station than it does in Austin. There is some elitism in that line of thinking, but there is also some truth to that as well. But that is the risk of an in-state rivalry for any program in the country. As a fan from a neutral point of view, I can say the day Texas and Texas A&M work out an arrangement to play football against each other again will be a proud day for the sport of college football. It would be a shame to see it have to happen through a bowl game on a neutral field, but if that’s what it takes to make it happen, so be it. Other than the Cotton Bowl, which is not an option this year, the Texas Bowl in Houston would be a pretty good spot to make it happen.
