  1. Clarksville is doing a lot more losing in basketball this season than we've seen in years. This is the first time they've lost to Maud and James Bowie in decades, and Rivercrest beat them 96-50.
  2. 2 of the top teams in the oldest county in Texas go at it for the first time in recent memory. People are calling it "The Battle For Houston County." Who comes out on top? Alot of these kids know each other personally and there's been alot of smack talk all the way from February until now. My prediction is: Crockett-56 Grapeland-20
  3. Clarksville vs Whitewright Detroit vs Trenton James Bowie vs Union Grove Maud vs Ore City Mt Enterprise vs Colmesneil Overton vs Campbell
  4. Matt Stepp tweeted that Horn has resigned and Greg Jenkins has been promoted. Anyone know where Horn is going?
  5. I was watching the DeSoto/Marshall thread and it seemed like a different thread of conversation was emerging... so I went back and time and created a new thread. This post will appear to you all on Tuesday morning. But as you can see by the date above ^^^ I am actually posting this from Sunday afternoon.
  6. With neither team able to gain or lose seed 1st rnd has already been set: Lovelady vs Kerens Tuesday Feb 20th at Leon High School.
  7. Lady lions beat Hubbard 48 to 35. Play winner of Centerville and Crawford. Date time location tba.
  8. Another tough matchup for the lady lions. But then again I thought Kerens was gonna be tough. Ended up being a blowout.
  9. Lions defeat Saratoga West Hardin 64-0. They control their own destiny. Win @ groveton, won district.
  10. Class 2A DII Overton Mustangs (0-3) visit Class 3A DII Como-Pickton Eagles (3-0) Can the Mustangs crack the win column this week? Will the Eagles get win four and match their best start since 2004?
  11. The Mustangs took one on the chin last week vs a big Union Grove team...can they regroup and get a win at home vs the James Bowie Pirates. Bowie was open last week. Bowie has a tall Sr QB 6-3/195... plus some hefty OL, two listed at 5-11/230 and one at 6-3/235. The Mustangs OL has decent size, but a couple of newcomers to full varsity playing time...5-11/245, 5-8/200, 5-11/250, 5-10/285, & 5-11/320...those newbies have got to come along for the Mustangs to be successful and generate some much needed offense production that was missing last week. Mustangs are still breaking in two new QB's 5-8/160 and 6-1/150...and both may get a lot of reps this week. RB's are hoping to see those gaps opened this week...they go 5-11/160, 5-10/170, 5-9/185, & 5-9/170. WR's are certainly hoping for the QB's to have those needed seconds to get off the passes...they go 6-4/180, 6-2/155, 5-6/155, 6-1/165, 5-9/155, & 5-6/135. Defensively, the Stangs have to do much better than last week...still were breaking in some new kiddos and it showed. They have one huge DL player that can mess things up if he gets rolling, 5-11/240 and another quick one at 5-8/180. OLB's will have to contain Bowie on the edges and ILB's will have to plug the middle. New DB's will have to dial it up and play smart. I think Overton slides by in a close one this week and gets a much need W.
  12. Who gets the opening win of the season? Overton coming off a successful 8-3 playoff year...having to replace QB, Tackle, WR to graduation...also having to replace Center and another Tackle due to not playing...and other WR moving...that being said they have worthy replacements All District 1st Team TE moved to Tackle and a strong replacement at Center...two very quick WR stepping up (both caught a TD each in last scrimmage)...QB is shifty and a good runner and has decent arm strength...RB positions solid...if OL can come thru should be able to move the chains successfully. Defense is having to replace one ILB and two OLB...one corner and 1 safety...defense is pretty quick...must contain edges and get pressure on QB to help secondary. All I have heard about UG is a bowling ball RB who's tough to bring down and a decent size OL...UG has had a run of successful years. Last year's game had to be cancelled to due weather..,UG was leading in 1st quarter 8-0.
  13. Congratulations to the Grapeland Boys Golf Team on winning the Class 2A State Championship! Very well deserved! The Sandies took 1st place as a team, sophomore Rick Frauenberger took 1st place individually, and we also broke the Class 2A record of a 602 with a two-day team score of 600! Coach: Cannon Earp Golfers: Case Boyd (Jr.), Josh "Bear" Ackley (soph.), Rick Frauenberger (soph.), Riley Chipman (Sr.), Brayden Cheatham (Jr.).
  14. Lovelady won game 1 tonight 8-0. Game 2 tomorrow in Douglass at 1:00. Will provide game updates.... (Photo credit kbtx)
  15. Anybody got info on this place? A buddy of mine from the Metroplex has applied for the OC job here.
  16. My understanding is lovelady and Cushing game 1 is in lovelady now due to wet field in Cushing? What about 2 and (if needed) 3? The locations? Thanks
  17. Maud at Overton 7:30 p.m. Friday Coach Roy Stadium Two teams with a lot in common, and some pretty competitive matchups in recent years. They've played for playoff position and district titles, so having something on the line is nothing new. This year it's the third and final playoff spot. The winner has a shot at the postseason. The loser starts shooting hoops. A lot in common between these two teams, including their results against common opponents. This one's too close to call. I vacillate between homer and poormouther on this'n, but, really, I think it depends on which team plays consistently for four quarters. Yeah yeah, it sounds like something John Madden might say, but it's legit. Both teams have squandered leads and given up games they should've won. The winner is gonna have to play a complete game. With fingers crossed, I think Overton takes this one—scoring late and holding on for a hard-fought win by a narrow margin.
  18. Overton at Big Sandy, 6 p.m. Friday at Wildcat Stadium So yeah, once again, it's just a scrimmage — but it sure beats playing with yourself. Uh, I mean, it sure beats playing against yourself. Please don't ban me. But anyway... What are some things you're hoping to see out of your kids? Overton showed some backfield depth, but struggled to pass the ball. Defensively there was poor tackling and blown assignments. Was this just early-season jitters or a sign of things to come? Big Sandy remains a mystery as well. They've got some young talent on the roster but are struggling to assert themselves. Both teams have good coaching staffs, and they've got their programs going in the right direction. It'll be interesting to see which team has made more progress during the preseason. Thoughts?
  19. Overton at Grapeland, 9 a.m. Saturday at Sandies Stadium Yeah yeah, I get it, it's just a scrimmage — no one's trying to "win" or anything. But what are some things you're hoping to see out of your kids? Grapeland and Overton are both two young teams trying to turn their programs around. I don't know where the Sandies are in this process, but the Mustangs have a lot of young, raw talent. While there's only three or four seniors, there's a bunch of sophomores who started last year — and some gifted freshmen coming up. Barton & Co. believe in starting the best 11 guys on a side, so seniority doesn't count for squat if you don't put out. I've seen and heard good things coming outta practice thus far, Saturday is a chance to see how much progress has been made... or if we need to go back to the drawing board. Thoughts?
  20. I've got us (Overton) in a district looking like this: District ?- 2A Division II Overton (152) Tenaha (142) Timpson (147) Mount E (102) What about y'all? What sort of district do you see your former-1A now-2A school landing in?
  21. #1 Team in Class 2A hosts the Class 3A Bobcats. Both teams are 2-0.
