  1. Clarksville vs Whitewright Detroit vs Trenton James Bowie vs Union Grove Maud vs Ore City Mt Enterprise vs Colmesneil Overton vs Campbell
  2. Clarksville Detroit Maud Mount Enterprise Overton Simms Bowie
  3. Class 2A DII Overton Mustangs (0-3) visit Class 3A DII Como-Pickton Eagles (3-0) Can the Mustangs crack the win column this week? Will the Eagles get win four and match their best start since 2004?
  4. The Mustangs took one on the chin last week vs a big Union Grove team...can they regroup and get a win at home vs the James Bowie Pirates. Bowie was open last week. Bowie has a tall Sr QB 6-3/195... plus some hefty OL, two listed at 5-11/230 and one at 6-3/235. The Mustangs OL has decent size, but a couple of newcomers to full varsity playing time...5-11/245, 5-8/200, 5-11/250, 5-10/285, & 5-11/320...those newbies have got to come along for the Mustangs to be successful and generate some much needed offense production that was missing last week. Mustangs are still breaking in two new QB's 5-8/160 and 6-1/150...and both may get a lot of reps this week. RB's are hoping to see those gaps opened this week...they go 5-11/160, 5-10/170, 5-9/185, & 5-9/170. WR's are certainly hoping for the QB's to have those needed seconds to get off the passes...they go 6-4/180, 6-2/155, 5-6/155, 6-1/165, 5-9/155, & 5-6/135. Defensively, the Stangs have to do much better than last week...still were breaking in some new kiddos and it showed. They have one huge DL player that can mess things up if he gets rolling, 5-11/240 and another quick one at 5-8/180. OLB's will have to contain Bowie on the edges and ILB's will have to plug the middle. New DB's will have to dial it up and play smart. I think Overton slides by in a close one this week and gets a much need W.
  5. Who gets the opening win of the season? Overton coming off a successful 8-3 playoff year...having to replace QB, Tackle, WR to graduation...also having to replace Center and another Tackle due to not playing...and other WR moving...that being said they have worthy replacements All District 1st Team TE moved to Tackle and a strong replacement at Center...two very quick WR stepping up (both caught a TD each in last scrimmage)...QB is shifty and a good runner and has decent arm strength...RB positions solid...if OL can come thru should be able to move the chains successfully. Defense is having to replace one ILB and two OLB...one corner and 1 safety...defense is pretty quick...must contain edges and get pressure on QB to help secondary. All I have heard about UG is a bowling ball RB who's tough to bring down and a decent size OL...UG has had a run of successful years. Last year's game had to be cancelled to due weather..,UG was leading in 1st quarter 8-0.

  19. Anybody got info on this place? A buddy of mine from the Metroplex has applied for the OC job here.
  20. This should be an exciting district. I'm interested to see how Tenaha's QB progresses this year, and how Therwhanger does at Timpson. Loads of talent, can he turn them into a powerhouse similar to the way he did Lovelady? Strange to see Wortham and Tenaha in the same district.
  21. Two teams that have played in fits and starts all season... with Tenaha clinching district last week, Maud and Overton are fighting for who plays who in the postseason. 3-0 Tenaha 2-1 Overton 2-2 Timpson 1-2 Maud 0-3 Mount E. 0-4 Fruitvale Hmm, do three teams go into the postseason, or four? Because at 1-2, Maud is on the outside looking in. If they win, that's a three-way tie for second but I'm not sure how the tire-breaker would work. That would mean they beat Overton, who beat Timpson, who beat Maud, who beat Overton, who beat Timpson, who beat Maud, who beat... With a win, Overton would finish second in 11-2A and likely face Evadale in bi-district. Man, I'm not sure what'd be a neutral site for that game... Lufkin? Maud had a pretty hot start, so I don't know what happened against Timpson, but I reckon we'll have to score more than 9 points to beat them. Plus, I don't think this one's gonna come down to a last-second field goal. If Overton leads late, they'll run out the clock. If Maud leads late, they'll probably try to run it up for the sake of playoff calculations (I know I would). The Cards are usually tough at home (3-0 this season), so the Mustangs are gonna have to grab some momentum early to offset the homefield advantage. Can they do it? We'll see...
  22. Who wins the district and what order will the playoff teams be seeded? Maud Cardinals Mt Enterprise Wildcats Overton Mustangs Tenaha Tigers Timpson Bears
  23. Overton vs. Normangee Wildcat Stadium, Whitehouse 7 p.m., Friday, November 14 The Mustangs are riding high after surviving their nailbiting 30-28 win over Maud, while the Panthers hope to get back on track after a shellacking by Iola. Both are programs in the midst of rebuilding. Overton is a very young team, with sophomores and freshmen that start on both sides of the ball. The Panthers have more senior starters than the Mustangs have seniors, but Overton's youngsters are actually more experienced in the post-season than Normangee's, as this is the school's third-straight playoff appearance. I don't know much about our friends from down south, but I'm certain they're not willing to settle for "one and done." Looking at their schedule, they've won and lost some close games, so I suspect they've got what it takes to play four quarters. Having taken on some tough squads in Mart and Iola, they won't be intimidated by the young Mustang upstarts. Overton is showing steady improvement since a disappointing loss to Timpson with a hard-fought loss to speedy Tenaha, a surprising rout of Mount Enterprise, then last night's gutsy performance against a determined Cardinal squad. There's a lot of excitement and confidence bubbling up, and the team seems to be showing a consistency that has eluded them for most of the season. Normangee will win if... they can make big plays on offense. Overton has a plodding, time-consuming offense. If the Panthers can force a shootout, they'll keep the Mustangs off-balance. On defense Normangee has to load the box to slow down Overton's three-headed rushing attack. Overton will win if... they don't get in 3rd and Long too often, and hold on to the dang ball. Mustang junior halfback Julian Herndon (6-2, 210lbs) can run the ball 30-40 times easy, but speedy junior Kam Hawkins and explosive sophomore Tanner Lee can break the big play. If Overton's running game gets rolling, the Panther D is gonna have a long night. Defensively the Mustangs don't have to pitch a shutout, just prevent the big play. I predict the Mustangs will control the clock on offense, bend but not break on defense. The game will be close throughout, with Overton pulling away late. The Mustangs win the battle of the kelly green teams, advancing to the next round: 33-20.
