  1. Teams have started work outs and such so time to move from pre-season talk to regular season/post season talk. 2. This week, the Greenville Lions (2-5, 1-3 district) take part in yet another Homecoming. This time, however, it's actually their own, as they play host to the Hallsville Bobcats (4-3, 2-2 district.) While technically still alive in the playoff race, the Lions seem to have started preparing for the future, having promoted sophomore quarterback Weston Jarvis to starter, and giving reps to sophomore RB CaDamian Hale, younger brother of star senior RB Carandal Hale. Hale (the senior) currently has 159 carries for 1,520 yards, as the race for a 2,000 yard rushing season is in full force. ------------------------------- "Hallsville..." ...Colmesneil :)
  3. Well...SOMEONE'S gotta win. :) Sulphur Springs (0-5, 0-2 district) vs Greenville (1-4, 0-2) in a bitter rivalry. Sulphur Springs has dominated this matchup for the last decade, but their sudden decline gives the Lions an opening to score a victory in this series. The winner starts to get back into the District 15-5A race. Greenville, as always, is led by RB Carandal Hale. Hale comes into the contest with 1,089 rushing yards on 102 carries along with 10 TDs. He gained 126 yards on the ground against Longview last week. Defensively, the lopsided score of the Longview game hides an actually improved defensive effort from the Lions. They actually surrendered fewer points to the Lobos (51) than they did against Royse City (60.) Much improved tackling in last night's game forced the Lobos to actually face third (and fourth) downs on several occasions. I really don't know what Sulphur Springs has in store this week, so I'll let someone else handle things from the Wildcats' perspective.

LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES 10.03.2014 - Longview 56, Greenville 7 - Lobo Stadium 10.03.1947 - Longview 16, Greenville 0 - Lobo Stadium 12.07.1934 - Greenville 47, Longview 6 - Phillips Field FULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW A place Longview has not visited in nearly 81 years is the next time for the Lobo district train as they travel to Greenville, home of the Lions. The Lobos and Lions meet for just the fourth time in their history and only the second time ever in Greenville. The last time Longview went to Greenville, they suffered their worst playoff defeat in their history by a 47-6 thrashing from the defending State Champions at the time. At the top of the Texas High School mountain at the time, a lot has changed for the Lions since. After ending a 40-game losing streak last season, the Lions opened the 2015 season with another victory over North Garland. Since, it’s been a lot like 2009-2013 as the Lions are now coming off a 31-21 loss to Mount Pleasant which ended the Tigers own 13-game losing streak. On the flip side, the Lobos enter the contest with a 17-game district winning streak dating back to 2012. The 17 game district winning streak is the 2nd longest in Longview’s history, tied with the 17 games from 1975 to 1977. The longest district winning streak is 36, between 2004 to 2010. The Lobos also won their 32nd consecutive home district game with the 61-6 victory over Pine Tree, dating back to 2004. In 1936, Longview rushed off to a 40-0 victory at Lobo Stadium over Mineola. It was just the 3rd game played at old Lobo Stadium. In 1942, Babin scored on a 16 yard reception in the first half and Sam Fromagus recovered a blocked punt in the end zone as Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson squeaked by Longview 14-6. Robert Crowley’s 74 yard reception in the 4th quarter was Longview’s only score of the night. In 1953, the Lobos suffered a home loss to Corsicana by a 25-14 count. In 1959, Pete Mobbs’ two yard touchdown run in the first quarter was all the Lobos would need to knock off Grand Prairie. Larry Shoemaker and Jerry Earnhardt each returned interceptions for score, while Douglas Bruner and Ray Chancelor also ran in markers as the Lobos rolled to a 32-0 victory over the Gophers. The win was Longview’s 6th in a row. In 1964, Gerald Carney’s 27 yard field goal with 5:04 remaining sent Mesquite to their first victory of the season in a 3-0 win over Longview at Lobo Stadium. The loss was Longview’s first of the season. In 1970, Longview won their 9th straight game as the Lobos rushed to a 27-0 victory over Marshall inside Lobo Stadium. Ronnie Davis scored twice in the first half before James Lomax and Larry Smith added on scores. The Mavericks were held to just 58 yards on the night in the 2nd game that would be become a 19-game winning streak for the Lobos over Marshall. In 1981, Gahlen Johnson’s three touchdown and 210 yards rushing day capped Longview’s 37-0 victory over Nacogdoches at Lobo Stadium. The Dragons were held to just 136 yards as Ronnie Hunter, Jessie Floyd and Willie Thompson also added markers for the Lobos. In 1987, Mike Bobo and Earnest Hunter both scored twice as Longview rolled to a 35-6 lead over Texas High inside Grim Park. The largest margin of victory for the Lobos inside Grim Park was capped with a touchdown by Ray Allsion and Calvin Jackson in the fourth quarter as the Lobos dominated the Tigers, 49-6. Earnest Hunter put up 163 yards in the 371 total rushing day for the Lobos. In 1992, the Lobos rolled up 292 rushing yards behind Amond Hutchings and Alton McAlister as the Lobos knocked off Ruston at James Field, 23-12. L’Vendric Fite, Chris Judy, Amond Hutchings and David Danielson scored the markers as the Lobos rolled up a 23-6 advantage late into the game. In 1998, Longview scored 10 point in the first half of play and it was all that it needed in a 10-3 victory over the Ruston Bearcats. The 10 points were the first 10 points the Cats had given up on the season after having previously outscored their opponents 158-0. Erik Hargrave kicked a first quarter touchdown before Fred Talley sealed the winning touchdown with a 28 yard reception from Trey Pierce. The win was Longview’s 14th straight regular season victory. In 2009, the #4 ranked Sulphur Springs Wildcats visited Longview’s Lobo Stadium for the first time…and were shown just how difficult it was to win there. 394 rushing yards behind two touchdowns from both Aaron Johnson and Dakota Anthony stopped Sulphur Springs’ 14-game winning streak dead in it’s tracks as the Lobos absolutely rolled to a 45-0 victory.
  5. Rivalry week continues for District 15-5A as the undefeated Greenville Lions (just go with it, it's rare I get to say it) make the long, grueling trip 12 miles to the southwest to face their biggest (recent) rivals, the Royse City Bulldogs. Last week, Greenville's stout (for us) defense kept the North Garland offense at bay just long enough for the offense to finally get the bugs (turnovers and penalties) out of their offense, prevailing on two long TD runs in the Lions 21-14 win over the Raiders. RB Carandal Hale was credited with 17 carries for 313 yards and 3 TDs by the Dallas Morning News (94 yards and 2 TDs on his final two runs of the contest.) Royse City...not so much. Marshall took out it's aggravation over a long non-district road trip out on the Bulldogs, rolling to a 62-13 stomping. Despite the results of the two games, Royse City remains a slight favorite in this contest, as their rivalry this decade has heavily favored the Bulldogs. Useless trivia: Greenville has not won a game by more than 10 points since October 23, 2009, against Dallas R.L. Turner. Greenville (15-5A): 1-0, 0-0 DIV, 1st place (by alphabetical order) Royse City (12-5A): 0-1, 0-0 DIV, 8th place (by 49-point loss)
  6. Because the rest of the district has their own threads...may as well not get left out. Greenville had a 40-game losing streak heading into 2014. North Garland turned out to be their slumpbuster. Now NG heads to Greenville to try to return the favor, and break a long (27 game) losing streak of their own. North Garland 2014 (District 11-6A): 0-10 (0--7 district) Greenville 2014 (District 15-5A): 4-6 (2-5 district) Useless Trivia: North Garland has two games against Coach Sedberrys this season: against Greenville Coach Marvin Sedberry this Friday, and against his son Marvin Sedberry Jr. and Naaman Forrest on Sept. 25.
