Longview spots em 20 points, and still embarrasses them.

That 50-6 run is the LOBO team Ive been waiting on all year.

So when is Longview going to go back to 5A where they belong instead of picking on little 4A teams?

You dont know much about 4-A, D1 do you?

I have been watching Lobo football since 1974. The coach can only get the players ready to play on Friday nights. How can any one say that coach King hasn't done his job. His record speaks for itself. We have won district every year with him as a coach and we haven't lost at home.He has done a great job at Longview and I hope he stays around a long time. Our team rose up Saturday night and kick some serious butt against a good team.Let's give coach King and staff some credit and enjoy the rest of the season. Go Lobos.

you are wrong! i agree with him totally! king's play calling is not very good! they win despite the coaches play calling. king is a great coach but not a great play caller! he needs to either have someone else call plays or really look at film and see what works and what doesn't. also, don't get fancy on offense when there is no need. longview runs at will, but for some reason king feels the need to pass or do trickery and it has hurt him the last 3 games. do what you do best! period! until they stop you! do it! also, use your best players more! this is do or die. no need to save them or rest them. frustrating when mccray doesnt play for 10-12 plays. crazy! they are winning despite pla calling and bad personel moves. this team could be even more dominating if these things were fixed. scary, but true!!!

I appreciate your thoughts, interesting reading.

It’s funny how people watching the same team come away with such different views. I’m actually encouraged by the play calling and use of personnel.

I’ll start with personnel. Longview has quite a few talented players on offense, McCray is one of them. But Johnson, Anthony, Fortson, Robertson, R McGee, Hunt, the Tight Ends, …are all effective. The group as a whole presents a significant challenge to a defense. It’s got to be tough to plan for all these weapons. BUT, they’re only a threat if used in the game(s). Also, injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. Coach King has quite a few players with game experience to call on as needed (e.g. K. Shaw injury). Finally, there may be other factors influencing playing time. Performance in the classroom and on the practice field for example. There’s also the locker room factor, I suspect some are better teammates than others and this may affect playing time (this thought comes from my own playing experience and not from anything I know about the Lobo team).

Play calling – I’m a firm believer that offensive balance is an important ingredient to a long playoff run. It’s more challenging to prepare for and execute against an offense that has variety. This is not to say that a run dominate (or pass) cannot or do not win it all. But I’ve seen Longview stop some very powerful run (John Curtis) or pass (Evangel) teams in the past. I view the pass plays and trick plays as part of the success of Longview’s rushing attack. It’s these plays that must be defended which soften the defense which helps open the lanes. Also, what happens when Longview meets the defense that stops their rush? It’s out there. Lake Travis for sure, Guyer who knows.

There is one thing you wrote that I agree with. This team could be more dominate. An improved passing game would do it. But I admit I don’t have any idea how to do it. McGee looks like a better passer but who knows. I’d still want the ball in Johnson’s hands much of the game. He’s capable of positive yards every time and protects the football.
