Better late than never

Day 8, 4am - 5am

from IMDb:

Open with CTU assessing the damage caused by the EMP. The central system is down and they are unable to control their surveillance drones. CTU is currently unable to prevent the rods from entering the city.

Jack calls his buddy Bill over at NSA. Bill agrees to access traffic cameras and see if they can locate Samir's SUV. NSA agrees to shutdown all traffic into the city, so Jack and Cole head for the way the terrorists could get the rods in: the East River.

Cut to Samir and Faroush arriving at a dock along the East River. Samir is briefed that CTU has been shutdown and their location has been secured. Samir takes Faroush aside and assures him that sacrificing Kayla was the only way they could get the rods into the city. We see the rods being unloaded.

After telling her she is being sent back to the UN to help identify possible terror subjects, Hastings reveals to Kayla that Faroush used her to attack CTU and is still alive.

Samir's men spot Jack and Cole SUV's approaching. He orders them to "take it out" as soon as it within range.

As Jack drives, Cole uses night vision goggles to scan the area. When they are unable to make phone calls despite having full bars, Jack realizes they are being jammed and immediately throws the car into reverse. Samir's men open fire from several locations, and force them to become trapped between two buildings. They men are temporarily safe behind the armored car, but cannot leave or signal anyone from the outside. Samir realizes this and takes the rods from the scene. Jack spots a phone box against a nearby building.

Cole tells Hastings three people were killed in the pulse blast. A team from NSA arrives to help get CTU back online. The NSA guys are led by engineer Frank Haynam who helped design CTU and is particular about wanting to do things his way. Haynam's team heads down to the server room. Chloe realizes that Jack is missing and asks Hastings to go look for him. He tells her they don't have the resources and sends to help Haynam.

Chloe suggest a potentially faster way to get CTU back up and running. He dismisses her idea as too dangerous (possible electrocution, fire, etc.) and tells her to leave.

Still worried about Jack, Chloe calls Walker and tells her the situation. She gives Walker a lead on Jack's last location. Walker suggests Chloe do whatever necessary to get CTU back online.

Dana takes Prady aside and tells him that every file in the building has been wiped clean and she cannot help him. She wishes him good luck and leaves. He tells her to call him if she has more info.

When Haynam against rejects Chloe's plan, she pulls a gun on him and orders all the NSA guys out of the server room. She locks herself in and starts working.

Jacks finishes fashioning an armored wedge from the shields in the car and organizes the four men to (two other agents were in the back) to form a wedge over to the call box. On the way one of the agents panics and runs for it. He is shot and the other three have to retreat. As the terrorists shot at the agent on the ground, the third agent tries to rescue him. He is also shot.

Kayla is returned to her parents. She apologizes to Hassan for not trusting him about Faroush being a traitor. Hassan sounds like he's wavering about the peace agreement. Dalia convinces him he has to be strong.

Haynam brings Hastings down to the server room. They eventually disable the lock and get inside. Chloe tells Hastings she's ten minutes away from being finished. Hastings asks for Dana's input and she sides with Haynam. Regardless, Chloe is able to talk Hastings into giving her a shot at getting CTU back online. Hastings is told a man named Prady is asking to speak with him. Dana hears this.

Chloe gets CTU up and running again and they immediately get the drones looking for Jack. Chloe tells Hastings that Walker was looking for Jack.

The second agent dies, leaving only Jack and Cole. Jack orders Cole to make a run for the call box after he runs in the other direction as a diversion. Jack gets engaged in a firefight and ends up taking two bullets to the chest. A terrorist places Jack's head in his crosshairs but is killed from behind by Walker before he can finish Jack off. Walker takes out the remaining terrorist as Cole runs for the call box. Walker thinks Jack's lung may be collapsed but none of the bullets got through his vest. Cole got though to CTU and they are enlisting help from NYPD to look for Samir and the rods.

Dana goes to the room where Prady is waiting to speak with Hastings. She goes inside and insists she's answered all his questions. Prady tells her she's a liar and that he's not leaving until he knows the truth. She hits him several times and strangles him to deal with a rope. Dana hides Prady's body in a wall panel and she places a call. "It's me, she says. "CTU is back online." We then see she is speaking to (double gasp!) Samir. She tells him she's been busy preserving her cover and tells him she'll call him in a few minutes. Samir and his men are loading the rods into the trunk of a cab and he tells Dana he's going to need some help getting clear of CTU surveillance.

bald headed guy = Military General on Nation Security Council

Day 8: 5am - 6am

Open with Jack receiving medical attention for the gunshots he took. Though he's on the verge of a collapsed lung he refuses and more care. Walker tells him the rods are definitely in Manhattan, but they can't be too far behind.

Based on a tip, Chloe finds a clip of the rods being unloaded six minutes earlier. They use that to find Samir on satellite. Of course Dana quickly calls him and helps guide him away from CTU surveillance. She disconnects the satellite image and allows Samir and his cab to blend in with cab traffic a few blocks away. Dana tells Samir he is clear and he demands he give her checkpoints for NYPD patrols. She is worried it could blow her cover.

Hastings is forced to tell President Taylor and Kanin that he cannot guarantee the safety of Manhattan. Weiss is furious. Taylor all branches at the ready and has Kanin set up a situation room with her national security team. Taylor wants to contact Jack.

Jack and Cole seem to be suspicious that the satellite feed was knocked for just enough time to allow Samir to get away.

Taylor asks Jack to supervise bringing Hassan from the UN to the air force base where she is working. He agrees and Walker demands to help.

Samir and Faroush arrive with the rods at a secure location. The bomb-builder tells Samir all they need to do is add the rods and the device will be ready. It seems that Faroush has assumed the role of "driver" and Samir tells him he wants to place the bomb soon after talking with Taylor.

Jack and Walker meet Secret Service agent O'Connor. She tells them they will be evacuating Hassan via subterranean route to New Jersey.

During the national security meeting General David Brucker is already suggesting retaliation targets in Kamistan. The meeting is interrupted with word that Samir is on the phone for Taylor. He tells her he will not hurt Americans as long as she hands over Hassan. She says that will never happens and Samir tells her she has one hour to change her mind. Taylor is told that the bomb could kill between 100,000 and 150,000 people. Weiss is immediately open to the idea of giving up Hassan, while Kanin thinks the idea is ridiculous. Brucker thinks they now have a "viable" option; Taylor does not agree. Taylor is ready to deal with the worse-case scenario and not give in to a terrorist.

Dana has Chloe give her the checkpoints. She tells Samir, who is convinced Taylor will give up Hassan. Samir is told the bomb is ready.

Brucker takes Weiss aside and suggest a covert operation where the U.S. delivers Hassan to the terrorists but make it look like it he was taken the terrorist themselves. Weiss tells him Hassan's transfer plans are being handled through Kanin's office. Brucker suggests they get the information to counteract an "illegal" order by the president.

Hastings tells CTU that the device may be detonated within 50 minutes. Dana passes along the NYPD roadblocks to Samir. He gives this info to Faroush, who is driving the bomb.

Brucker and Weiss go into Kanin's laptop and pull up the particulars of Hassan's Jack-lead security detail. Kanin comes in and realizes what is going on. Brucker won't let Kanin leave the room. Kanin begs Weiss not to betray his president, just before seeming to have a heart attack. Weiss helps him take his pills but Brucker won't allow them to call for medical help until Hassan has been acquired.

While helping escort Hassan, Jack notices that Kanin tried to call him. He leaves Kanin a message.

Brucker talks to his ambush team and instructs them to make sure they take Hassan alive.

Jack tells Walker his inability to reach Kanin is concerning. Hassan's security team has a 200-meter walk through a tunnel to the escape vehicles. Brucker's ambush team is waiting for them.

An aide knocks on Kanin's door trying to connect him to Jack. Weiss tells Jack that Kanin is tied up and ends up hanging up the phone. This puts Jack on high alert and he has Hassan and his family turn back for the UN. The ambush team sees this and opens fire. Jack instructs Walker to escore Hassan and his family into the UN. Jack and O'Connor engage the ambush team in a massive firefight. Jack rejoins Hassan and they try to run to safety. Jack realizes they won't make it and they find a spot for cover. Jack and Walker set off a smoke bomb and engage the ambush team. Hassan, who has been given a weapon, ends up saving Jack's life. Jack grabs one of their attackers and learns of Samir wanting Hassan be handed over.

Dana tells Samir that thus far it seems Hassan will not be given up. She briefly attempts to talk him out of detonating the bomb. Samir calls Faroush and tells him to "start the countdown." He tells Faroush his family "will be honored about all others." Faroush presses buttons on a remote and the bomb begins counting down from 15 minutes.

Looks like Mrs. Hasan will succeed her husband as president of the Middle Eastern country......I bet we don't get to see Charles Logan until the last scene this week....I still don't know what he can do to help the situation......yet....

scratch that: Subarov is still president of Russia...he and Logan have a good relationship.....the Russian delegate is giving us problems about signing the peace treaty.....hence, Logan comes in.....

Logan got the Russians to cave on the peace deal because he somehow knew that they were behind the assassination of president Hasan......then he got the president to go along with his coverup...SO, Jack didn't get to interrogate Walsh....Jack then decided that he was no longer going to go along with the coverup and took matters into his own hands.....Chloe, as head of CTU, is now torn between her job and her friend.....I bet she finds a way to do both......

So...President Taylor has decided to listen to Charles Logan instead of Ethan......Ethan resigned....she is torn now......Logan's goons are going to torture Walsh to get the location of the evidence against the Russians and then kill her......Chloe is setting up a sting to capture Jack.....Will President Taylor do what is right, or will she be like all the rest of the politicians and do what is best for herself???? More to come........

Jack turns the tables by figuring out what Chloe was up to....he captured the team that was waiting to capture him....now he is free for a while to pursue Walsh and the evidence against the Russians.....I still think that President Hasan's daughter Kyla is a terrorist.....I guess we'll have to wait and see......

Two great guest stars on 24 last night: D.B. Sweeney & Michael Madsen.

Best line of the evening was delivered by Ethan Kanin:

"...you've got Charles Logan now. There's only room for one of us"

'here's hoping for a Ethan Kanin-Charles Logan fisticuffs session in the finale' :w00t:

Jack takes out Dana. Law enforcement is notified to use lethal force if necessary to bring Jack in. I missed the other 50 or so minutes. Cheapy or Colmes hopefully can fill in the blanks.

Day 8: 11am-Noon:

Open with Dalia addressing the media and heaping praise on President Taylor and the U.S.

Pillar tells Logan that Bledsoe still hasn't gotten any info out of Dana. They confirm that the deal is to kill Dana after questioning.

Cut to Dana getting more waterboarding but still refusing to talk.

Jack and Cole plot their strategy for getting Dana from the safe house. Jack tells Cole his goal is to let Dana go once they have the evidence. Cole answers a call from Chloe and keeps up the ruse of having Jack in custody.

Chloe tells Arlo to have Jack given a complete psych evaluation when he arrives.

Jack and Cole have zero trouble getting into the safe house. They incapacitate the roof guard, then once inside use his walkie to call-in a fake ambush on the roof. When the rest of the guards go upstairs, Jack sneaks up to the guy running the operation, holds a gun to his crotch and gets the location where Dana is being held. Jack kicks in the door and when Bledsoe puts a gun to Dana's head precipitating a stand-off, Jack quickly ends it by shooting him in the face. Cole grabs Dana and they leave the building.

Chloe finally learns that Jack tricked her and got the jump on CTU. They see via video that he and Cole (who they think is a hostage) have already left the safe house with Dana.

In the car Jack asks Dana for the file, and gives her "my word" that he'll let her go afterwards. She balks and he pulls the car over and puts a gun to her chest. She tells him the file is in a safety deposit box at a nearby bank. Dana tells Cole that Jack's plan is probably to kill her and everyone else responsible for Walker's death. He throws her in the car. Jack assures Cole that he wasn't really going to kill Dana.

During Dalia's conference Taylor steps away and learns Jack is missing and has possession of Dana. Taylor calls former President Logan, who offers Pillar to head up CTU's manhunt for Jack and the evidence. Pillar was a former FBI agent who hunted high-value targets in Afghanistan.

Logan speaks with Novakovich and Pavel. Pavel doesn't believe Dana could have any evidence implicating Russia, and Logan tells them his man is hunting down Jack. Logan asks Novakovich to kill Jack once CTU has located him. Logan will have Pillar feed Pavel real-time updates on the search for Jack.

Jack agrees to guard the lobby while Cole takes Dana into the bank. Once they leave Jack, Dana continues to try and convince Cole that Jack is going to kill her and use the file to hunt down the Russians responsible for killing Walker. We see them speak with a bank employee and walk into a room.

Pillar arrives at CTU and Chloe learns that, at least on the hunt for Jack, she is no longer running the show.

Dana and Cole wait for the safety deposit box. Dana says she had no idea what she was getting into when she first hooked-up with the Russians. She tells Cole the reason she made the file in the box was to hold off the Russians so they could be together. The bank manager brings in the box. Cole opens it and sees a gun. Seconds later Dana covers her eyes and a mini flash-bang device on a delay goes off, blinding Cole. Dana body-checks Cole into the wall, grabs the suppressed pistol from the box and shoots the manager when he pops his head in the room. Dana grabs the file, a passport and some cash out of the safety deposit box. She strokes Cole's face, then calls 911 and reports seeing Jack outside the bank.

CTU learns of the anonymous call about Jack. Pillar orders the team to tap into the bank's security system and they quickly discover Jack outside the building. Pillar informs the NYPD and then furtively calls Pavel to tell him he'll have to take out Jack while he's in police custody.

Jack is interdicted by two cops outside the bank. After seeing Dana slink away, he gets the jump on one of the officers and holds him at gunpoint. Jack talks the other officer into dropping his weapon and then apologetically shoots him in the foot before taking off in pursuit of Dana.

Dana spots Jack behind her and takes off running. Dana grabs a human shield and takes a few shots at Jack before continuing to flee. Inside a nearby building the two exchange gunfire and eventually Dana runs out of ammo. Jack catches up to her and has her show him the evidence file. She places it on the floor.

Knowing that the jig is up, Dana asks "what can I do?" He quietly responds, "Nothing. Nothing," and shoots her in the chest.

She falls, stricken but conscious. Jack stands over her, then shoots the duplicitous and cold-blooded Russian mole several more times, killing her.

He picks up the file and walks out.
