CrankThatCrabtree
This was a bad year to expand to 10 movies, Inglourious B should win I think, although I'm about to buy A Hurt Locker and see how I feel about this after I watch it. District 9 - hated it, I'd get into it for a while, then I would get bored for moments, I also hate alien movies. Avatar - If you need to go 3D to make your movie appealing then chances are it doesn't have the merit to be mentioned on a best picture list. The Blind Side - Really? charming story and all but definitely not top 10, and if it is then they should shrink the list back to 5. Up - LOL you are an animated movie, get outta here. I'll be okay of Inglourious B doesn't win best movie, but if anyone but Christoph Waltz wins Best Supporting Actor I'll break something.
cheaptrick77
if anyone but Christoph Waltz wins Best Supporting Actor I'll break something. I am right with you, Daddy-O ... best acting performance in any category this year. 'heard the reason the Best Picture nominees was expanded this year was to draw more viewers ... the logic being that people will tune in if a movie they have "heard of" is nominated. That is what the People's Choice Awards and the MTV Movie Awards are for...

cheaptrick77
So.......... Kate Winslet and Sandra Bullock now own the same number of Oscars, huh? :ermm: WOW. It is Erin Brockovich all over again! Oh, well – at least they got it right with Jeff Bridges and Christoph Waltz.
1stSuperScot
Did you see The Blind Side, Cheapy? Read the book? If you had done both you would see what a fantastic job Sandra did in playing that role and why the Academy awarded her the Oscar.
cheaptrick77
I saw The Blind Side, 1stSuperScot, and found it to be trite and emotionally manipulative. How many more inspirational-sports-movies-based-on-a-true-story does the world need? :w00t: I know everyone loves a Southern Female spitfire, but I found nothing special about her performance. "Don't you dare lie to me!" "You're changing that boy's life" "No, he's changin' mine". Golden! :whome: Meh -- to each their own, I guess BTW -- Ms. Bullock is the first actor/actress to win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year. She was also in that nugget known as All About Steve. camuchs
Was I the only one that did not see Farrah Fawcett acknowledged in the memorial segment of the Oscars?
RETIREDFAN1
You won't, either....Farrah along with Jon Voight are the rare members of hollyweird who actually love (loved) this country and what it stood for before the current junta came to power...... Any one out there in Smoaky nations who wants to get an oscar nomination can make a movie about that murdering communist che gueverra....make it a sympathetic portrait of a misunderstood freedom fighter....throw in a lot of anti-American sentiment and make the USA look like the greatest evil in the world.....you are guaranteed a nomination for Best Picture...... cheaptrick77
Geez  So . . . only people who "hated America" were included in that memorial montage? So . . . the huge round of applause Charlton Heston received in last year's segment was because he "hates America" Out of respect, it probably would have been a good idea to include Farrah Fawcett -- even though she did not have a notable movie career -- but I cannot bring myself to this notion that it was some grand conspiracy to excluded her because she loves America. Sorry. Other than Avatar (???), which of this year's overkill 10 Best Picture nominees fits your deception??? :ermm: The Hurt Locker ??? :w00t: The Blind Side ??? :w00t: :w00t:

Sorry. And Michael Jackson did? (On a side note & speaking of MJ - ONLY in America - can you be born a poor black boy & gorw up to die a rich, white woman!) cheaptrick77
Have you forgotten about The Wiz ??? I thought that was a little strange, too, for the Oscars. Hey -- I am not arguing against the fact that Farrah Fawcett probably should have been included -- I just don't think it was for the vindictive reasons mentioned above. I think it was either an oversight or one of the final cuts of a timed presentation...
RETIREDFAN1
You tend to see hollyweird through rose colored glasses......take them off and catch just how ugly and out of touch they really are...... :saint:
cheaptrick77
^ nice try ... I simply have the uncynical ability to SEPARATE the art from the political views  of the film makers. 'see you at the picture shows! :D
camuchs
I tried to forget it. The Wiz? the wiz. I doubt if "the wiz" is what qualified MJ - It was more likely due to singing an Oscar nominated song about a rat. Farrah was probably in more movies than MJ. I can only think of Cannonball Run & The Apostle right now, but I know there were at least a dozen.. and they were probably better movies than The Wiz or Ben for that matter. I don't think it was about who loves America - I think that they actually forgot about her, esp since another bigger star died the same day. I really think they forgot everything that happened before 2pm that day. Just MHO.
