RETIREDFAN1
There are probably some better examples but it cracked me up to think about trying to build a team from 30 kids like at Cranfills Gap and going up against teams in your district that are pulling from 146 and 139.5, 129 etc. ... Â 13 District 1A Bartlett 106 Burton 106 Cranfills Gap 30 Granger 146 Holland 124 Iredell 42 Jonesboro 47 Milano 139.5 Morgan 41 Snook 129 Â Â They combined 6-man and 1A districts in the release....the smaller schools here are 6-man and the larger ones are 11-man..... pingpongplayingparrots
Wow look at the difference in numbers from JT and the others. Didn't realize there numbers were gonna be like that. Sure would be great to take down the new Giant of 4A. Anything can happen. mav01
Hard to imagine that Marshall's enrollment has dropped nearly 500 students in just 10 years. Keep this up and Marshall could be 3a not too far down the road.

It does look like JT is going to have a good pool of students to draft from each of the next 2 years to reload that cannon every season.

Mavchamp
Hard to imagine that Marshall's enrollment has dropped nearly 500 students in just 10 years. Keep this up and Marshall could be 3a not too far down the road.   It hasn't really dropped as much as you think. I remember this coming up once and I did the reserch on it.  MHS' enrollment through most of the 90's was between 1750 and about 1900. A flux of about 150 from one alignment to another.  In 1988, when the 9th grade joined MHS, the enrollment was about 1,850, which was a record high for MHS.  Things were pretty static through most of the 90's. But (I think it was in 1998) there was a "blip" for one alignment where MHS' enrollment jumped to 1,980. It's never been that high before or since. Must have been a big snow storm in Marshall in the mid 80's LOL.  Since that "blip" the enrollment returned to that 1750 or so range. So the drop to 1583, while is disturbing, it may be more of a blip. We will see.  I think the "white flight" growth of Hallsville has hurt Marshall HS and Longview HS. No argument has legs there.  I find it interesting though..... I wonder if the evils of a "big school" like LHS and MHS are going to follow the white flight schools like Hallsville and Whitehouse, who are slowly but surely becoming just as large and will eventually come just as diverse as the places they are flighting from. Interesting ongoing cycle.  I remember when I was in HS when Tyler Lee was the white flight school of Tyler. Now it appears to be WH. Just like it use to be PT in Longview...... now it's Hallsville and Spring Hill.  But I agree.....MISD needs to make sure they are doing all in their power to make sure things are right. Because  In my job...... all indications are showing that Marshall's population is on a slow to moderate growth pattern..... if that's true, then our school's should reflect that too. KildogDad
I was looking at the 3A #s and Kilgore is right there with the high end 3A schools and one of the lowest 4A schools, but look at closer to 3A than 4A. It does look like JT is going to have a good pool of students to draft from each of the next 2 years to reload that cannon every season. Kilgore is the 9th or 10th smallest 4A school in the state, from what I saw.
Buckeye1980
I may have overlooked someone , but is Lindale the largest school in 3A? Â Â Question, ( I like to come upwith these scenrios that may never come up) What if 2 schools with the exact same enrollment both make playoffs, who goes D1? :icon_confused:

DKBearFan
Wonder why no 2A football numbers? In all sports other than football, are they still deciding big/small school upon the results of district play and still taking 3 teams to playoffs? AaronGrant
Lufkin in 2006~~~ Â Where do you think Lufkin will wind up in 2006? In the old district or a new one? I think if Nacogdoches moves back up to 5A there will be a new district made up of Humble, Huntsville, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and 2 other teams. I would rather they formed the old district back. Best in the state of Texas! Â Â Â __________________________ mother of the bride dress discount wedding dress mother of the groom dress
BigRedFan
Let us get the converstion as to who maybe dropping or coming up a classification. I know that Mount Vernon was on the bubble last time, how about this time.
SwashbucklerSam
I seem to think that Clarksville will go back up to 2A. Their academic standing is back to being better and folks are coming back from being away.

BigRedFan
Does any one know how the numbers were in Mount Vernon at the start of the year? I believe that Winnsboro has 379 or 389 the first day of school so they will stay where they are.

PelvisPresley
I think alot will depend on whether they add a 6A...which has been the big talk. They'll scrap the big school, small school stuff.
JTFAN99
I think alot will depend on whether they add a 6A...which has been the big talk. They'll scrap the big school, small school stuff.  No, when they add 6a, they are still going to keep the big school/small school playoffs. The more teams that go to playoffs, the more money. They don't want to scrap that idea. Plus, it will still be 32 districts in each class. So 4 playoff schools x 32 districts = 128 schools. The playoffs already last 6 weeks with 64 teams. So nothing will change, All 6a does is create an extra class, so more teams can participate in post season play (which = more money), and put teams with closer enrollment together. Too big of gap in 4a and 5a.  By the way, I heard 6a will be put on hold again. Not sure why, but it will probably be the alignment after this one.  here is a mock 6a Matt Stepp did some months ago. Class 6A 2255-Up 203 schools Class 5A 1435-2254 199 schools Class 4A 715-1434 173 schools Class 3A 345-714 162 schools Class 2A Div. 1 261-344 85 schools Class 2A Div. 2 195-260 87 schools Class A Div. 1 149-194 77 schools Class A Div. 2 100-148.5 79 school  2A:http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1107607  3A: http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1107269  4A: http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1106903  5A: http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1106557  6A: http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1106142  I don't have 1a, but I think it stays the exact same as it its now. topher805
Crockett stays down in 2A. Hoping Clarksville goes up to 2A. Troup may drop to 2A-DII. Westwood possibly drops to 2A, but I think they have at least two more years in 3A. I know they aren't a football school, but Slocum will drop back down to small school 1A, which is big for basketball.
