Before anyone else has a chance to complain, let me assure you that yes, there are errors and/or omissions on this list. I noticed when I read it in the paper this morning, a couple of athletes that I am familiar with, have better marks than they are credited with here. Apparently results from the White Oak meet were not included in the boys' rankings, although the girls' rankings from WO are there. So if your favorite male athlete performed well at the Tommy Atkins Relays, maybe he will make it in next week.

Hey Mav01, in the boys 1600, the two top times (Tijerina and Duncan) were run head-to-head at the Pine Tree meet. It was a great race. Did you see it?

Yea I was there. I bet Tijerina was just as surprised as I was to see someone challenge him in that race. It was good for them both to push one another like that early in the year. Tijerina is typically at his best in the 3200, but for some reason has chosen to participate in the 800 instead of 3200 so far this year. Is it ok for a runner to run all 3 at a meet, or do they just choose to run 2 since they are long runs? I think someone can challenge him for gold at the district meet in the 800, but if he runs the 3200 it will be an easy gold. Also it looks like it was an even better race between the Kilgore and Spring Hill runner in the 3200 at pine tree. Less than half a second separated the two in an even longer race, and the rest of the pack was no where to be found.

Is it ok for a runner to run all 3 at a meet, or do they just choose to run 2 since they are long runs? It is a rule that runners can only run 2 of the 3 distance events. They can however run another race like the 400 or the mile relay in addition to the distance races. On a side note I believe Pauley from West Rusk would be up there with the two runners from Spring Hill and Kilgore. He ran a 10:19 in the 3200 at Eustace earlier this year.

Cameron Courtney from Timpson ran a 10:18 in the 3200 last week at Douglass taking 1st place. Only the second time he has competed in this event. He also ran a 4:35 in the 1600 in Alto the week before and a 2:02 in the 800 taking 1st in both events. :notworthy:

Gonna be a good battle at the 17-3A district meet between Johnson of Tatum and French of Bullard.. Both have thrown over 150 this year.. I "think" French's best is 155...

Tatum junior BJ Allen will go to state in 4 events this year..

As I understand the UIL rules, an athlete may compete in no more than 2 of the following races in a given track meet: 400, 800, 1600, 3200. Having competed in 2 of those races, the athlete may run in one more race not on the list or be a member of one relay team. It is a weird function of the rule that a runner who competes in say the 3200 and 800 is inelegible to run the open 400 meters, but can be a member of a 4X400 relay team. Venegas from Kilgore ran the 3200-800-4X400 schedule at the Pine Tree meet.

Courtney and Pauley are definitely two others who can hang up some good times in the distance events. My son (the Spring Hill runner mentioned above) and Pauley are Facebook buddies and have been bemoaning the fact that WR's and SH's schedules do not coincide at any meets. They would love to run against each other.

SH will be at the Gilmer meet tonight. Does anyone know about other teams that will be there. I heard that Kilgore, Whitehouse, Daingerfield, and Diana were at Gladewater last night, and I believe Tatum is scheduled to be in Atlanta on Saturday.

any results on the G-water meet last night? And what time does the Gilmer meet start? Anybody there that can post results??

The 2nd highest high school pole vault mark in the nation this year was recorded at the Gladewater meet yesterday evening. Colton Ross, a senior at Grand Saline, cleared 17 feet in winning the competition. He tried 17'3" for the highest high school jump in the nation this year but came up a little short at that height.

Josh Carpenter, a junior also from Grand Saline, cleared 14'1" with a TON of room to spare at the Como Pickton Relays. Pretty nice jump for Josh being that the conditions were AWFUL for vault.

Josh Carpenter bettered the bar he jumped at Como by easily clearing 14'6" at the Al Rholes Relays in Van, TX on Thursday night. He had 15' cleared each time but just couldn't manage to clean up his jump on the backside of the bar. Also at the same meet, Colton Ross cleared 15'6" and Devin Faber of Canton cleared 15'. Faber looked good considering he just came back from a back injury.
